Hi all, I'm pretty new to this forum as I have only been browsing it for the past hour or so. I'm trying very hard to think of an idea for making money from my dorm room and cannot seem to come up with too much. It doesn't have to be just a campus type job, but I can also launch a website. I am good at writing particularly persuasive and inspirational, as well as composing speeches. I know a decent amount about weight loss and fitness, and have all of the resources here at Hampton University to help me, but i do not know what to do. Any advise?

Hi!

Have you thought about creating a site on health and fitness?

Best wishes,

Hello and welcome!

The fact that "there are so many of them out there" is not necessarily any reason for you to believe you wouldn't succeed. That may be a good thing. It indicates a high interest in the field and wherever there is high interest there is great demand.

The growth of the health and fitness industry has exploded in the last 10 years and continues to gain momentum. People all over the world are now more health conscious and better informed on the benefits of diet and exercise.

It has become a lifestyle for many, but there are twice as many still struggling with weight issues and diet problems.

Use the resources at the university and what you know about weight loss and fitness to create a novel exercise plan, diet, or fitness system.

You could target college students as your market segment and solicit student volunteers interested in losing weight and improving fitness to help you test your system. Track your results, get feed back, make adjustments and work out the bugs until you can identify what works.

When you do get it sorted out, here's what you would have:

1. Tons of data to support the effectiveness of your system
2. A number of satisfied users to prove it works
3. Testimonials to use in your Web site promotional copy

All you'd have to do next is come up with a fancy name for your system and market it as an e-book, an online course, or offer the system on video or CD.

Think about it!

Hey HamptonUnivHope. I don't know if this posting comes too late but I agree with A8ch and Vishal P. Rao. Something that you are familiar with and hopefully passionate about will do the trick in the long run.

Personally I would design a site that broke down the various factors in fitness from diet to physical activity...then I woudl break that down even further going into the specifics of each sub-factor.

To generate income from this, I would utilyze various affiliate programs like Amazon.com and possibly link share. Tailor your advertising to fit the target group in each category and sub-category...thus diet books from amazon.com for the diet section then broken down to maybe low-carb recipes, Dr. Phil books...stuff like that.

I think if you "speak" to your audience like you would in a normal everyday conversation about the benefits of health and fitness rather than why they should buy something, you might find that you get more positive responses which hopefully will add up to sales. Plus adding a weekly or bi-monthly opt-in mailing list can only help sell more product.

In the final analysis, if you treat your audience with the respect you would give to your close friends, then you have a winner. Hope this helped some what and feel free to let me know. Take care and all the best.
