I live in the country, what can I do to make an income. My wife loves
pets. We raised rabbits for fun once. I do carpentry. I am a home
inspector. I build boat docks and bulkheads at a local lake and remodel homes sometimes. Work is very slow out here in the country.

I live in East Texas, USA. Some people call it the United State of Texas,
but I will not go that far... SMILE Texans can sometimes become a
legend in their own mind.

Think about what you enjoy doing, and then see if you can make a small business out of it.
For example with your carpentry skills, you may be able to make furniture, perhaps not just the regular stuff but something with a "docks" or waterside theme, tables with bulkhead-looking legs!! Aim for something really specialised.
Your wife, with her interest in animals, could look at breeding cute furry critters to supply pet shops, not just the local but also the bigger cities.
In both cases you could create websites to promote your "products". On the website you could offer your tips and suggestions for home carpentry and furniture building, as well as selling books on the subject, by linking up with Amazon.com.
Your wife could have on her website articles and information on the caring of pets, tips on how to best look after them, as well as books about pets and other pet products. Do some research and see what the latest trend is in pets. Perhaps you could breed them and sell them worldwide over the internet.
All of the above ideas require a shift in mindset away from employee to entrepeneur.
You have to get creative, think outside the square!
Network marketing is another option. This can now be done completely over the internet. See my sig for more details.
I suggest reading Robert Allen's Multiple Streams of Income to get some other ideas.
