I've been working from home for 2 years now & I love it! I used to work for a large corporate that sold media i.e. business cards, brochures etc to other corporate. I basically arranged for the print to be channelled to the relevant suppliers etc..
If I had to give advice to anyone getting into this market area I'd say keep all your contacts. Your present employer may have lost a few customers but you can pick those up as your starting point when you go it alone.
Also try to keep as much as you can electronic. Email is always best, plus it gives you a receptionist like front desk so that your messages are retained. I know that sounds obvious but so many people take email for granted nowadays and its so underutilised!
Get a broadband connection. Get a web site I'm in the throws of creating mine now. A colleague of mine currently gets 75% of all business through their site.
Check out CRM packages & manage those contacts well. Keep chipping away and don't get disheartened, my 6 months were rough.
If you want to get into print brokering or media management check out sites like:
Adobe : I'd be lost without Adobe
PE My Workflow of choice for print management
Business Stationery Site Everyone should have business stationery!
Finally make that leap and good luck. Its worth it!

After posting a message in the ideas section 'ajazzfan' told me to read your article. I've seen this system & I like the cut of its cloth . But I was still a bit dubious about it.
Thanks for convincing me to go for it. I hope I have as much luck as you and that your luck continues.

Tom good move! The print management system Print Evolved really makes a difference! Just concentrate on your customer base and let the Print Evolved system take care of the rest. Its nice to not wade through andless technical queries for a change and let the printers concentrate on their end and me concentrate on the selling, service and accounting.
Good luck in your future endeavours
