While at the doggie park today, I met and talked to someone who said they worked from home. After asking a few questions about their job, they explained that this wasn't a job that involved sales. This personal coach and mentor gave me their WorkAtHomeUnited business card. After checking the Working4APurpose.com website, I thought, "Okay, this sound interesting." but there still wasn't enough information on the website, so I decided to fill out their contact me screen. Now after reading the comments above, it sounds to me that Working4APurpose.com is about really about selling Melaleauca products. I'm not familiar with their products, but I am with Shaklee Company and their products. I decided to go to the Melaleauca website and read and review their products. Both companies are extremely similar. Bottom line: Both are good companies with great products but I don't want to sell them. I already use Shaklee and save $$ for about 24 years. I'm not a sales person and am not interested in becoming one. I'm very disappointed that the WorkAtHomeUnited consultant and the Working4APurpose.com website weren't upfront about the company name and what they did to make $$ -which is sell products. Why the big secret? Hmmmm...makes one wonder.
Many work at home opportunities do a dance. It's up to the newbie to do the due diligence. This can be a difficult, confusion process. After I was let go from my job my first impression of working at home was that everybody doing it was rich. Then I figured out that it must be easy. That's what the ads say, right? Over a year later I found out that you can get rich with it, and yes, it's a lot easier for me. The reason why this is the case is because I spent over a month performing strict due diligence. I advise to take enough notes on working at home to write at least one ebook. Forget about visiting squeeze pages; those fancy pages with yachts and Ferraris. Become s "Forum Lizard"; ie - someone who hangs out at forums like these. Pick the brains of the more knowledgeable mentors. Sure we're busy but most of us love to help. That's one of the big reasons why I became a WAH entrepreneur; to help people who were as confused as me in the beginning. As for myspace it's a more of a dated social medium. That buddypromoter program sounds like a whack bot which doesn't fulfill it's promise. Also beware an ad with poor grammar. Usually these are red flags. I use myspace as a secondary networking tool. Focus on twitter and FB. They can be monetized more easily because their networks are expanding more rapidly.
Making money on social networking sites usually involves MLM, that's why I don't do that. Not saying MLM is bad I just don't think it's the best way to make money from home.
Don't know if it has been mentioned already, but online tutoring is another very good work at home niche to explore. Educate-Online, KidSpan and BrainFuse are a few of the companies that come to mind, but there are many, many others. We regularly feature job postings from across the web on our site and one thing that I've noticed is that, more and more, large companies like American Express, Neiman Marcus and Aetna are hiring people to work from home. Undoubtedly, this is do to the cost benefit of hiring home workers. We even posted about a work at home job a few days ago for a pharmacist! No, they weren't looking for someone to dispense drugs from home, lol. Rather, they were needing someone to handle patient Q and As from home. Anyone serious about working at home must first believe that such a thing is possible and then set about learning how and where to search for these types of jobs. Also, don't forget about home-business opportunities or providing freelance services. Our best to everyone here who is looking for work!
I had a look into that sort of thing aswell. Unfortunately I'm in Australia and those jobs are mostly in America.

Fantastic list! I'm somewhat new to the whole work at home thing, so I'm trying to absorb as much info as I can. After getting laid off a few months ago, I decided to try and earn a living at home. I'm quickly learning there are a lot of scams, though.

Frustrated and discouraged... Can no longer work in my chosen career field ( due to injury ) and have been looking for work at home opps. I've been scammed too many times, and was wondering, are there any real systems that I can use to replace my income?
I understand the loss of the chosen career field. I was in real estate for years and had ups and downs until this last fall... won't turn back to it again [I built 60 homes over the years and just got to the top each time as the market crashed. I liked building and enjoyed building my first 35 homes in 70 weeks in Missouri. That was before 1978 made building come to a quick stop.] Now I have started working in MLM. It really isn't as much an automatic way to make money online as it is a people to people business. However; that said, I do believe that this company will be one of the biggest MLM companies ever since it is dealing in money & has no competition. Goodeal & Gooluck HHH
