As I understand it.. this is a major way to get noticed? Am I right?

I was reading an article about web design..

"How to design your website following a silo architecture?
Create a top category, something not specific, for example, SEO, and then you create subcategories related to SEO, like articles, design, software and whatever. In this way you will have all the web pages related to the category SEO ordered in a way that the seach engine can pick them up very easily, and they will reward you for doing that."

So is this familiar? I guess its building a site with links internally to connect each page so that it is cohesive and more search engine friendly.?

Am I right or have I got it wrong?

Is it called something else?

For large websites, spidering by Search Engines is important, so I prefer to have many small sites

You are right but I'm not sure about how the linking structure goes about. It's better to educate yourself properly and analyze some sites built on silo architecture before modifying your site. The below website has some good tutorials on silo web designing:
