Question about targeting keywords

So, someone mentioned that they thought that targeting keywords was the key to making real money with affiliate marketing.

A question, however: what exactly is keyword targeting? Is it just using Keyword search to find related keywords to the product you're reviewing, and then using these words (or phrases) in your article?

And if that's not it, what is it?

Thanks very much for your help.

That is just one aspect. However, among those keywords too, there are keywords that make money and those that don't. I mean some keywords are used for information only. They are not used by buyers as such. On other hand, some keywords are used by buyers and people searching using those keywords are more likely to buy. Some tools Market Samurai help make these research lot easier. It's not entirely accurate but you can trust them.

You need to find a balance between keywords that are popular and ones that have little competition

Yes that is what keyword targeting is, however, if you find other words that no else is competing for, it could get you to the top of the search engine very quickly if someone searchs for it. The trick is to find those keywords and use them.

It is good to target low competitive keywords to get listed in search engine.

Long tail keywords are the best. It is like a low hanging fruit, but it is not necessarily guaranteed to pull in cash. It depends on the keywords you are targeting. For example, if you niche was work at home jobs, you would look for a long tail keyword to target because this niche is hot and heavily marketed. To stand out among your competition, you need to find the keywords that they are not using and use them on your website and articles.

I like to use 3 word keyword phrases. I try to to find phrases that are searched at least 500 times a month, with low competition. I then take that 3 word phrase and incorporate it into an article title. Questions are good for titles.

By competition I don't mean the lack of green in the competition bar of the google keyword tool. That is sponsored or adwords competition. Not really relevant if you are writing articles.

Google your keyword phrase ("in quotes") and see what the page results are. Anything under 5,000 is good and of course lower is better. I have written articles in the 10,000 range and still reached 1st page.

Nothing is written in stone here you are just trying to lean the odds in your favor.

Keyword targeting is a specialized aspect of e-Marketing where web site content is written so that it is recognized by search engines as being an important destination for search engine users who use the keywords or phrases being targeted. Put another way...if you want your web site to be highly placed when a search engine user types in the phrase "chocolate cake", then you write your website content so that it contains lots of information in the appropriate places and ways so that the website finds your website to be one of the top 10 places for information on that subject.

In years past, the common practice was to place keywords and phrases in the HTML code of the website called "meta tags". You could simply list the words you wanted to be found under and that was that. For many reasons including the fact that there was wide-spread abuse of this, none of the major search engines use this technique alone anymore. A few of the largest search engines completely disregard the keyword meta tag completely.

If your website is about working from home you do a keyword search for that using e.g. google keyword tool.
If you are going to advertise your site using adwords you would try to get keywords related to your site that have decent traffic but low advertiser competition. This would keep your cost per click low but still get targeted traffic.
If you are going to write an article and then link to ur website then try and include keywords as above so it is easier to get a decent page ranking on google. But in this case also include the popular keywords coz that costs you nothing.
In your blogposts do the same as above for article writing
Basically your use of keyword targeting changes depending on what you want to do with it.
