Most of us have the website information of those who want to trade links sent to our email address. With so many unrelated sites like poker, games etc. submitting their information, it becomes a tedious task to check which links are related and which are not. Here's a tip that'll quickly eable you to decide which requests are from related sites and which are not.

Instead of making the subject of the link requests you get as "yoursite.com link exchange request" or "link exchange request" or something like that, it's better to include urls of the website in the subject too. For example, "yoursite.com link request (websiteurl.com)". Many websites can be identified from their urls and this technique enables you to guess the website nature without opening the emails. This way you don't have to go though each and every link requests.

Another tip is to create a separate email address for link exchange or create a filter to forward all requests to a special folder. Email boxes can get quickly cluttered with these emails and it can be quite distracting.

Hey Vishal,
Good tips, I have separate E-mail addresses for personal and business accounts. Most IP's have the option to add another E-mail address without charging.
I do have a Blog that I'd like you to take a look at, it follows my exploits into internet business for the self-employed.

I use a company called LinkExchanged and they handle all my links automatically. I just submit requests to people I want to exchange links with and I answer requests from webmasters who want to share links with my sites. Its only $10 per month, per site, and my pagerank has already increased to 3 for one of my websites and 4 for another. I dont have to do anything manually. Its all done automatically by the service.

There have been rumblings around for a while now that Google in particular is starting to discount the value of exchanging links. Good, relevant one way inbound links are apparently much better for your rankings. Unfortunately that means you either have to go buy links, or your site really has to be so good that relevant sites will want to link to you.

That said, I'm a firm believer that no one really knows what happens at Google except Google. This is all mostly speculation.

Very true Gary and I guess very few webmasters bother to take a look at the link exchange requests they get (including me).

One way, I see this as an opportunity for genuine sites with little financial backup to top seo charts. Finally it just boils down to way things were at earlier days on the Net - no link exchanges, just honest recommendations on the links pages.

Hey netjobs,
That's not a bad idea.

As long as it doesn't turn into something that attracts nothing but Ads.

If people had a place to contact others that want to exchange links, they could pick and choose something they would actually be interested in linking to.

Good Luck,
Joe

I'm sure it most probably will The main reason of me creating this forum is to provide a credible medium to share genuine information. Creating forums for link exchanges and ads will most likely defeat the purpose.

Good point, one of the only other ways I know of having any type of link exchange is to visit the other persons site, and send an E-mail requesting such an exchange.

We All know what a hassle that can be if you get flooded by requests. Especially when they aren't even related to your site.

Just looking for alternatives to help people find exposure for their sites.

Joe, there are many link exchange sites that are solely dedicated to that purpose only. linkmarket.net is one of them.

It's getting increasingly difficult nowadays to get webmasters to link to your site. Most of them no longer give interest to emails that relate to link exchanges.

The only way you can succeed is by trying to be different.

* If you write articles, try submitting them to websites that accept submissions.

* If you post articles by other authors on your site, ask if they would be willing to do an article exchange.

* See if you can create software that might be really useful to webmasters, who in turn would happily link to you for that.

* Offer help on programming/designing in return for a link.

These are just some of the ways to think outside the box for links to your site. In the end, what really counts is whether your site deserves to be linked. If yes, then little effort from your side will slowly snowball into a cascading effect. Else, it'll be simply a wild goose chase.

Thanks for your information. Anyway, there are still many many SEO programs that do such function to send emails to webmasters for link exchange. They still sell like crazy.

Nowadays, there are lots of sites out there providing as free of service to get related sites to exchange links... some of them..

www.simplylinking.com
www.linkmarket.net
www.linkexchanged.com
www.gotlinks.com

some of them can make unlimited link exchanges at a time (like simplylinking.com) and some of them limited per day... better always try to link exchange atleast 5 links per day and dont try to link exchange 100's of sites at a time...
