Hi all,

I just wrote an article for a set of long tail keywords which have only about 1000 approximate searches per month. (They directly relate to my product ) When I quoted the phrase in Google it returned 313 pages. After the first day my article was live with Ezine I was indexed at position 4 in the Google search results.

My question is this: Should I waste my time with long tail keywords that get 1000 or less searches or is this right where I want to be?

Thanks in advance!

TSF

You should focus on long tail keywords.

You will get success very soon.

Good luck

I to believe long tailed keywords are great! The search engine(google) will see your exact phrase and boost your article up the rankings pronto! Having only 1000 searches is great because the traffic you draw will be targeted traffic!

TSF,
I agree with the above. You are right where you need to be to find success. The longer the keywords the more you are targeting your specific traffic. For ex. You have a problem with your dog barking and you want it to stop. You come across two articles in your searches. The first one is titled Train Your Dog. The other is Train Your Dog To Stop Barking. Yes the latter one is longer but you would be more inclined to click on the second one because that is your problem. The longer the keywords the more likely "buyers" will read your articles. Also as a side note, from that example we can see how important titles can be to your articles. keep up the good search.

TSF,

I say congratulations, that's exactly what you want to be doing.

Use long tail keywords to your advantage. Get enough articles on page 1 of google and you will get plenty of traffic.

Hi TSF,

Mix it up and change your parameters around as you go. See what works. Try to understand the whys behind the methods.

There isn't really an "ideal" method and there aren't any magic parameters. There are only good starting points, effective monitoring and tweaking, and making it work.

I think that your results will speak the loudest. Fourth on Google is good provided your keyword phrase is in demand.

If the article drives traffic, then you've written an effective article. If you get conversions on your destination page, then you probably have an effective destination page.

Seems like you're at least off to a good start :)

Basically primary keywords are the best one that brings in a lot of targeted traffic. What you have did is called as deep link building in technical aspect. Long tail keywords do add up some value over the long run but they should not be concentrated too much.
Since you are in 4th position I recommend you to write one more article and submit in around 100 directories. Check back after a month and I am sure you will be in #1. This adds up. Just do the above work and concentrate on the primary and secondary keyword.

I though I helped you out. If not PM me the nitche and your website and possibly I could look into it deeply.

Thanks
Sam

TSF ~

Long tail keywords are the way to go as it will target that number of people you are going for (say 1000 like you said), you have a better chance of getting your product out there instead of being a lone fish in an ocean...

Hope this helps!

This is some great information. I'm completely new to all this myself and am glad to see some useful information.

My newbie logic says:

'Tis better to be a big fish in a small pond than a small one in the ocean. Seems to me that a person in a top 5 position for a long tail keyword that directly relates to something of value you are offering to your niche is definitely much better off than someone on page two or three for a shorter string of keywords in a slightly larger pool. 1000 searches that actually see you and your product/service beats 10,000 not seeing you any day. But, like with everything else in this IM stuff, it's going to take a bit of trial and error before you see what's absolutely most effective for you specifically.

For long tail key words the number of searches will be less and naturally the number of visitors will be less, but will get targeted visitors to your business site and get more conversions.

Position 4 is where you want to be.

It must be tedious to do it, but since your results are good, stay with it

Ezine Articles is very good for getting top ranking in google search. If you can find a profitable long phrase keywords that is producing results you will be happy. Not all long phrase keywords will do that, just so you know.

2000 searches and up is better. 1000 is a little low.

But good job on the keyword optimization.
