Hi, I am new to the online marketing world and would like some advice on where to start. I realize nothing in life is free except a beautiful smile, so I am curious as to the methods described to set up an html to drive customers to my site. This particular money making method suggested a free website, however, once I got into it I fond other costs. Is this normal?
Seeking advice,
Zptdew

Depends - quite often, no matter what program you choose, there will be optional stuff available as well that you can either pay for or not... feel free to be more specific and maybe we can help you more.

This is a great question. Most people are looking at the bottom line in terms of cost when it comes to starting an online business. Let me chime in with my thoughts.
Any business you begin will have some sort of cost associated with it. Whether it is money or time you must pay something. Even opportunities that say set it and forget it have some time cost involved.
The best way to lower your cost and maximize your profits is to become educated. My primary business is in travel. The start up cost is higher than most online businesses (the profits are much higher as well) and we had operating cost as well. We paid anywhere from $80 - $150 for a company replicated website and $150-$500 a month on obtaining leads. For a beginner in the home based industry this can be restrictive to them staying in the game.
So with some education we found out how to make our own free websites (there are many out there to use). For us the choice was blogger.com. With little or no HTML knowledge you can make anywhere from a Spartan site to an elaborate one with many different gadgets to it. For leads we did to things. First we found places that offered free leads. Many are against this practice but here is my thought process. When you start you are usually pretty green on your opportunity ( most people aren't natural salesman). Having free leads to practice allows you to not lose any money. Plus if someone bites its all profit for you. Next we learned how to generate our own leads. You can find places on the net to insert free form fills on your site. One that we have used is Emailmeform.com. In the free version you get 5 for free.
So in all we saved up to $650 a month on running our business. yes many opportunities have inherent cost but if you can stick around and learn a bit you can really cut those cost out.
I wish you the best and if you have any further questions feel free to contact me directly.

It is normal. It is called back end selling. It is up to you to purchase. Of course you can stay as free member and get the limited support.
That's why i will always ask around about the opportunity that i am interested in the forums and find out if there are other costs attached to it.

there are many free opportunities to start making money online. the fee that you have to pay is like your domain, hosting, mybe some e-book that tell you how to make money or to spend money on adwords tp promote your site. its a lot easier if you can purchase some useful e-book to start unless you are internet GURU, you dont need that...

The best way to market online is to write articles.

zptdew you did the right thing by asking. Now you know it's normal to be asked for money after you're in. It doesn't mean it's a good thing though.
Regardless of the business model you are in (mlm, affilaite marketing, selling your own products ...) there are rules to keep in mind. The most important one is that If you are selling my products for me you are doing me a favor, I should pay you for your service, not the other way around.
Since you are here I guess you might want to run it all online. The basics for any online business are a website (your own), an autoresponder, something to offer in return for visitors contact info, and traffic to your website (usually the landing page which includes your offer in return for contact info, also called lead capture page).
You'll need to pay for the above basics and those will be your business expenses. A hosting and an autoresponder will cost any where between $10 and $30 monthly. Depending on your niche your advertising budget will varry greatly. You may offer your visitors something you wrote yourself or something you have the "giveaway" rights for. It has to be relevant to your website and what you are trying to sell.
With paid advertising comes the need for tracking. Tracking 202 is the best free tracking service I tried. At some point you might want to invest in a tracking software that costs anywhere between $79 and $149.
Good to know what is waiting for you before you get it.

Hi,
I think so too,
There is nothing is free, and nothing you can earn easy....
If someone in online said can make you rick quick with their program,
you may concern them as Scams!!
Good luck to your business
Happy day~^^

Hi zptdew. I have a question for you. Does the website offer a totally free version? If so use it, you can always upgrade later. If not, there are many that do. As an affiliate marketer i am using one that has a free version and a paid version. With the free version I have little control over what is on the site. As opposed to the paid version where, I have loads more control.
And as ateamfuntimer pointed out, there are many places you can build a totally free website from the ground up.
I hope this helped good fortune to you Barry

I know this thread is a little old but here's my 2 cents regardless.
One thing is for sure you will pay either with money or with time. No matter which way you look at it if you are running a business it will cost you in someway.
By all means keep cost down to a minimum but to try and run a business without investing anything is unrealistic.
Regards Your friend on the "inside" Shaun
