Hello I'm determined. I'm just starting out in affiliate marketing. The course I'm taking says use article marketing to get traffic to my web site. I have written two atricles for Ezine.com, and one Squidoo lens(blog). I've have tried articlemarkeeter.com also. I've had no visits on the Squidoo lens and less than two dozen on the other two artricles. All three article marketing sites I've worked with have been really really picky! For example One told me only two to three sentences in a paragraph. Only one would accept a hyperlink in the authors Bio. and it still wouldn't take. They reason stated both author bios must be the same! How can they be the same when one accepts html? and one doesn't!
The Author of the home course says you should be able to write an article in ten minutes? It's taken me about eight hours per article due to research time and numerous rewrites of each! I have read numerous articles. All agree do your research, be original, title and keyworkds make or break your article! Are there easier sites for beginners to submit too?! How long should an article reviewing a product or buisness opportunity take start to finish?!
I know it sounds like I'm whinning I'm not. I juist can't help but wonder if I don't something drastically wrong! I've read Travis Sagos Bum marketing, and the one Hundred dollar a day income system. Both seemed exceptional however I've not been able to employ much of what they cover as far as article writting tips or hyperlinking due to various site restricitions!
Is my overall approach wrong? Should I just keep plugging along hoping for something to click? Any Suggestions?!
Determined

No body would be able to do it in the first time unless he/she is a naturally gifted writer. For a beginner, it could take any time. Actually it doesn't matter how much time you take. What matters is the quality. A good quality article is lot more worth than 100 useless articles.
And it takes some practice to improve your writing skills. Just practice and practice. And if you still don't get it, consider hiring a ghost writer. But my sincere advice is that, if you are well-versed with a subject, only you can come up with the best article provided you have the required skills to put them up in words. I have had many articles written by ghost writers but the best performing ones were always written by me
In article writing, it is the quality and your personality that counts.

That was nicely put Vishal.
Hi Determined,
The main thing is to hang in there. Good things take time and patience. Learn everything you can about the fundamentals of marketing. Study for a few months by reading forums such as this one, reading blogs, reading static sites, etc...
The first thing to do is to spend a few days reading the past threads on this forum. Then you'll have an idea of what components are involved in online marketing.
Then you study each component. As you do so, interact on the forum. Ask questions. Discover what others feel are helpful resources for learning and mastering the knowledge.
One thing is almost certain, the learning and monetizing won't come as quick as you have probably been lead to believe. Even so, it's well worth the time and effort. Learn to enjoy the process and you won't be affected by urgency.
Running into road blocks is all part of the game and it's nothing to get too upset about. It's an opportunity to learn how to troubleshoot and to build patience.
Hang in there and just ask for help when you don't understand something or get stuck. Definitely continue to try hard before taking someones time, but don't hesitate to speak up if you get stuck after you've given it reasonable effort.
We're happy to help.

Hello Determined,
You got some great advice from Vishal and Newbie Shield. Take heed!
determined: I have written two atricles for Ezine.com, and one Squidoo lens(blog). I've have tried articlemarkeeter.com also. I've had no visits on the Squidoo lens and less than two dozen on the other two articles. Unless you get super lucky out of the box, and a cable network, local radio or television station spots your first few articles and calls you in for an interview which propels you to prominence, the benefits of article marketing can take some time to pay off. So the response to your initial efforts are not uncharacteristic.
Continue writing. Be informative. Pay attention to keywords. Aim for quality and be consistent in your output. Eventually you'll have scores of articles forming the core of a linking network that drives decent traffic your way.

When I began which wasn't long ago I wanted to write articles for magazines so I opted to take several online writing classes and they helped a lot so I got brave and submitted some articles. And guess what? I got one accepted and that gave me the confidence to keep going. I figured if I could get one accepted offline then I can do it online. Where there's a will there's a way. Sonni

1- It's going to take more than 3 articles to make money 2- Have you done any keyword research? 3- Bum marketing is more about volume than quality 4- It can take 1-2 months of consistent writing before you will make any money 5- You need to use tools to help you write faster - ie article templates, article writing software

Hello Determined,
I would advise you to visit Ezine Articles, look at the top authors and view their articles to give you an idea of different styles and ways of writing. Also look at the way they use the resource box.
It might be easier for you to write step by step articles or bullet point articles at first e.g. 6 Reasons to....... 10 Ways to get more..... 3 Exciting opportunities to......
Article writing takes time to master, but is well worth it.
Hang in there Barb

Hi Determined..
Yes, great advice everybody, however, I'd like to add a few things. Keywords in your title are very important. The main keyword should be in the first 3-4 words.
Bad Titles 10 Rules to Writing Articles First Step to Writing Articles Why should I Write Articles
Good Titles Writing Articles Effectively Writing Articles: Step 1 Why Write Articles
Understand? Also, three articles isn't going to do a whole lot. Yes spend time writing your article as quality is what matters. But what you should be doing is submit your article to many other sites. You've already done the work...Now just submit it. There is some software you can purchase or services you can pay for. But I think if you do enough looking, you can find some for free.
Good Luck.

Depending on what you're writing about finding that certain niche will be the key. Your theory is sound about keywords and such, often times people just starting out do so trying to market online marketing guides or opportunities...IMHO this is the worst thing you could do. Start out writing about something you are passionate about or know about.
Think like your audience. When you think about what it is your target audience is after think about what they would type into google to get to you. From there just makes sure that phrase is in your title and in your body.
When I first started out I found that "reviews" were the easiest thing to write because I could just talk about the product or whatever and not really have to worry about keywords because the key word was the product and as long as I used the name of the product I was ok.
Also, don't try to sell in your article, not only will it not be promoted but you're click through traffic will go down the tube.
Article marketing does take time till you find your voice but once you do then those 10 minute articles really will be there. I think the first article I wrote took me a day and a half and it...well it sucked.
What are you doing to promote your article? This is something a lot of people don't do and I think they should...at least till your site starts getting a little more exposure.

I am not sure what article directories you are submitting to, but maybe you should try others that are not so strict. EzineArticles.com can be somewhat picky about the articles they accept, but they are among the top article directories and they accept HTML in the article box. Other good directories that I submit to frequently are hubpages.com, goarticles.com, and articlesbase.com.
You are on the right track with using Squidoo.com as well, as Google loves it and lenses are often found high up in the search results for specific keywords. To get more traffic flowing through your lens, point articles toward it (by using a link in your author bio/resource box).

opendomain: What are you doing to promote your article?
You could write an article about the article. Then you could write an article about the article about the article. But why stop there?
