After writing an article is it okay to post the same article to a number of article directories or should a different article be posted to each article directory?
Seems I read somewhere that it will hurt you on Google if the same article is posted to the different article directories.

Hey Sharycea,
After writing an unique article you should only post it on one single article submission directory, that's my thought, because then the search engines treat your article content as unique and not as a copy.
Yes, as much as I've heard too Google is pretty harsh regarding copied content.

I would guess it would depend on the purposes of posting the article. If its just for getting link backs then post away! You see, the purpose of articles is hopefully to write them so well that other people will copy them, and post them on their own site. You even post a waiver at the bottom that you are ok with this as long as they include your link back to YOUR site when they do so.
If the article is good enough it will go viral, and then, well you're set
Google won't penalise you, because the article isn't on YOUR site. Yes, the original may be, and that was already indexed. But the people posting your article won't benefit in that way from it as they will be seen as posting a duplicate.

Yes, I read the duplicated content was somewhat a myth.
I submit to Ezine, and have links to my articles on my website, no problems so far.

Yes, I agree, many times the first page results of Google have the same article on different websites

Mamatwork said it all.
It only becomes duplicate when you have the same article on the same site.

Hi Question Much help needed regarding articles and referral to site.
Can you do an article for Ezine articles and refer it back to your blog say to squidoo and have the signature to your website with the same article?

Sahota7,
Yes you can. That would not be classed as duplicate content.

Submit your article to as many article directories that you can. This will increase back links, link popularity, and subsequent search engine traffic.
I have numerous articles that appear multiple times in the top 10 of Google search results for the same keyword.
Don't worry about duplicate content. Create valuable articles and submit them everywhere.

It seems there will be duplicates even if you don't want it due to other people using your articles on their blog so I figure I might as well be the one to duplicate since it's my article. I've seen several blogs with my articles on them and sometimes they take my links out so I leave them a message telling them they need to put my links back or take the article off. Then they usually do one or the other. I don't do it often, but once in a while I'll put it on my blog first and then later send it to EA and Goarticles. If I'm on the wrong track let me know I could easily be doing this wrong since I am a newbie. Sonni

You can use the same article in different article directories, but it helps to change up the title and some of the keywords within the article.

What I have noticed is that google will pick the one with the highest rank and all of the others will jus basically fade away...This happens MOST of the time with my articles.

I submit to 15 different article directories and I haven't had any trouble.

Yeah other wise i makes it seem like you are just a copy cat i wouldn't do it. It best to just submit to one article directory.

I really appreciate the feedback on this post. However, there are so many varying opinions that it is hard to know what to do!
If anyone is doing Bum Marketing and receiving the e-mails from Travis of "Bum Marketing" he has stated that he writes 30 articles for one product and that each article is different and that each one SHOULD be different. Maybe we need to get Travis on this post...
Also my experience has been the same as Prodaters. It appears that Google picks the one with the highest ranking and the others just disappear.
And Sonni states that others use his articles on their blogs and remove his link. That has happened to me as well and I had to request that my link be added.

I haven't wrote any articles yet, but people actually copy the entire article or blog? I used some contents given to affiliates to use from the programs resource center and put them on my website, but for someone to STEAL other people's work is so wrong!!! I know I like to read other people's blogs and articles to get ideas.
Hmmm... maybe I'll just try one article first because it's hard to write different articles for different sites. Thanks for the advice!

On whole, it's best to vary the articles a bit before submitting them to different directories. There is always an easy way and a difficult way. The easy way is always attractive and hence it gets abused and loses its value in the long run. The tough way or the road less taken is opted by few and they are always rewarded.
