As a token of appreciation for helping me make this forum what it is, I would like to offer free installation of software such as forum, blog on your website (or any technical help) for no charge. I don't know how much demand would be there for such service and whether I'll be able to keep my word or not but I'll try anyway.

You can contact me through the contact page. Do not forget to quote your username on this forum.

Regards,

Vishal

Thanks! That is very kind and generous of you. I don't have the need just at the moment, but if you aren't too bombarded in about 3-4 months time, I just might take you up on that, if the offer is still open.

I'll check back when I'm ready. Either way, thanks again for thinking of us.

Vishal,

That is a very generous offer. Folks, if you've never uploaded a forum or a blog, you should take him up on this offer.

I was thinking about perhaps having a forum on my affiliate marketing website, Do you think there would be a place for on that kind of site for a forum or should I just maybe have a guest book instead.

Thanks for the offer Vishal, but I don't have enough experience to benefit from it at this time. I would surely make a mess of something and I do that enough as it is.

Hi Sonni,

Actually, you did a great job with both of your self-hosted sites. You write well, you provide useful resources, you create thought-provoking posts, and the sites are attractive.

Sometimes it's hard to see just how well we are really doing until someone tells us. Even then you might not accept it on the emotional level. But believe me, you are doing a nice job!

You've already done what Vishal is offering - you installed two blogs (perhaps in the form of scripts but it's an "installation" all the same). Actually, you've done quite a bit more. You've added writing, a tag cloud, video, enabled comments, inserted hyperlinks and more...

Keep up the great work :)

There are many easy to operate, free forum software out there. Examples would be phpbb and simple machines. Let me know your preference.

Thanks, Vishal, for the quick reply. I'll study both phpbb and SMF to figure out how to do it myself. Do you know what the difference is? For either one of them, will it be hard to add HTML code to it such as Google Adsense, etc.? Which one this forum (work-at-home) used? Thanks again.
Kevin

Although I haven't tried Simple Machines, this forum's first software was phpbb. It was hacked a couple of times and then it was moved to minibb. It was the best decision I had made. Installing is not that difficult but if you need to upgrade or install a couple of addons, then little knowledge of coding in necessary. It's one of the best light-weight and robust forum software.

Thanks, Vishal. Sounds like minibb is the way to go. I enjoyed your site and will definitely do my part to support it.

Oh Vishal, a great offer.

Just wondering you continue this offer after a year of post. If so I would contact you in a couple of months time.

Thanks
Sam

Simple Machines is a VERY good free forum software and is generally regarded as more secure than phpBB. Check with your webhost as to any restrictions on forum software as a couple years ago phpBB was so bad, many hosts restricted use of it.

As for other software, vBulletin is, to me, HANDS DOWN the BEST commercial (you have to buy it) software there is out there. I have 5 forum sites all on vBulletin and one now has over 1100 members and 100,000 posts.

The other alternative is Invision Power Board (IPB) which is also commercial software and comes VERY close to vBulletin.

Both vBulletin and IPB also have as an option, Blogs for members so you could have a Blog for each member, where you could also have your Adsense ads (and I am not using any affiliate program yet but this is something I would do)

Do note that for a forum, you will need MySQL and PHP enabled on your server so check with your host to ensure it is enabled.

Any more questions on forum software, hosting etc, please let me know. I have been involved in internet forums as an Administrator or Moderator since 2001 and as a small web host since 2002.
