Well, we all know the economy in America is going downhill. People being laid off, banks failing, etc.
Obviously, people are spending less and less money.
So, I was wondering, how are Wealthy Affiliate members doing? I understand that there will always be people spending money, but have Wealthy Affiliate members noticed the amount of money that they are making start to go down?
I ask this because I am interested in joining Wealthy Affiliate but I am skeptical because I won't have tons of time to put into it combined with the fact that the economy is still going bad. So I'm wondering if I shouldn't wait a few months when I'll have more time... (Though who knows if the economy will get better or worse by then.)

I got an increase in sales in January, making more money that I had been making online in quite a few months.
A lot depends on what you are promoting.
Think... what are people looking for in tough times. Are they trying to save money on their electric bill perhaps. Are they looking to make thinks at home? Work at home on the side? Are they looking for cheap entertainment...

First of all - remember to look at WA as a tool and not a business...
But yes, people are always spending money on something - find a niche where people are spending money and products to promote and you should be fine.

Hmm... I see. Well it looks like everybody's not doing too bad then. I was sort of expecting people's online sales to be gradually decreasing.
Well, at any rate, like I said, I'm very interested in joining Wealthy Affiliate, but I've got a few questions...
I'm a full time college student and I work about 15 hours a week, plus my friends always pester me to do things with them on the weekend. Would I be better off waiting until after the semester ends (mid-May) to join when I'm not swamped and have time to put into it or should I join right away?
This eight-week course... will I be able to access it all right away or will it only let me do it one week at a time? The reason I ask is that if I have a stretch of time after I join, I'd like to sit down and read through all of it instead of slowly chipping away at it. That's not to say that I'll only read it once and rush through it; I will read it multiple times, take my time and do what it says. I would like to get an idea of 'the big picture' when I start.
Writing is not really my strong suit. (I prefer math, physics problems, things that require analytical thinking.) That's not to say that I can't do it. It just takes me a long time if I'm trying to make it have nice structure, flow really well, make sure I'm getting my points across, etc. Where it might take somebody one or two hours to write a paper, it might take me several. I don't know if writing for Internet marketing can be compared to writing a paper for a class or not, but will this be a hindrance in an Internet marketing career? Or am I comparing apples to oranges?
Anyway, if somebody could answer my questions, I would really appreciate it! Thanks!

Hi there Joe,
I will try to answer some of your questions. First of all, I will say that I am in a similar situation as you. I am also a full time college student (graduating in a few months...joy).
I joined WA over the summer last year and spent a lot of time learning about IM. When I started back to school in the fall, I had to concentrate on my homework and didn't have much time for marketing, but I still got a few sales rolling in. If you know how to do IM properly you can make money without spending a lot of time on it. However, it does take time to learn everything at the beginning.
What do you mean you work 15 hours a week? Do you mean you are taking 15 credit hours at school, or you have a part time job and you work 15 hours per week on top of school? If that is the case it sounds like you are pretty busy already. Waiting until you have some extra time may be a wise decision. If you can handle it though, then I can't see why you can't try to do both IM and school. I try to do both, but obviously school is top priority right now.
As for WA, yes there is an 8 week action plan that you get only one week at a time. Don't let that hinder you though. If you go to the Learning Center, you can get all the same information that's in the 8 week plan. Instead of being split into 8 weeks, the tutorials are broken up into three sections (beginner to advanced). You can work at your own speed. Like you, I wanted to get all the information fast, so I essentially went through all 8 weeks in the first few days.
Also, your major does not really matter. I'm not sure how physics would apply to IM, but you could probably figure out some relation. You really don't need to many computer skills, and your writing does not have to be top notch either. I am an English major and do a lot of writing. IM writing and analytical writing are a bit different though. Instead of being technical, you try to keep it simple.
You don't necessarily need to be a great writer, but you should know basic grammar and spelling to be able to write coherent sentences. Basically, my writing experience has taught me how to write content. I've been known to write fairly long articles, emails, forum posts, etc....as this is turning out to be, lol.
Anyway, my point is that I'm sure you could definitely handle internet marketing. What matters most is the time you have to spend on it. I hope this helps some. Internet spending was up 19% from January 2008 - January 2009 and is expected to continue to rise by 10.7% each year for the next 4 years

Internet spending will continue to increase for a very long time.
My advice is to ignore the economy (unless that is your topic or you have a related solution to the worsening economy) for the most part when it comes to online marketing. Generally speaking, don't let the poor economy stop you from trying to make money online.

I agree with NS. Though this is the tough time for every one internet sales area always going up and up.
For eg: Consider some specialty retailers in US like 1800Flowers.com. They have seen less revenue altogether but their online sales has improved. Does this enough ?

I have made more sale this year already than last tear total.
This is probably due to more experience, more articles and so on.
I made the decision to not let the economy bother me, and so far all is well.
