I made it into the top echelon ranking category on Squidoo today.
It is the top 100 lensmasters list. I am #100 over all (out of over 400,000 lenses).
Within the "How to & Education" category I am #12 (out of over 900 lenses).
The top 100 over all is very difficult to make even for a single day.
What is special about this is that I have only been a member of Squidoo for three months and my lens (in my sig here below) that made it into the top 100 has only been live for one month today exactly. I'm also doing well in Google and Yahoo SERPs - number 1 for several important keyword phrases.
I admit that I am proud of myself

Thank you Lora. I am indeed proud. I just wanted everyone to know that they should consider creating at least one lens. Squidoo is very powerful and it's entirely free.

Thank you.
It's tough to stay there though. I was there for one day. Competition can play a bit dirty once you make the grade. I got dinged by several folks that day and that night. They jumped me, lol.
By the next morning I was bounced up to 170 overall. They have peer voting. When you present a threat to the top lenses, some of them band together and vote your rank down. The good news is that it's only temporary.
Today I haven't quite gotten back to the top 100, BUT I am at #119, which is close enough. Time and a little fancy footwork will get me back into the elite club.
Even better, they can't rate me any lower. All they can do is change their vote to a higher rating
This happens all over the web. It's nothing new. Competition - even dirty - in its various forms.
All I need is a little traffic and a few quality back links to drive even more and I should be able to remain there before long. Only problem is that I have SEO'd the site almost entirely for Squidoo searches to help lensmasters and not for Google or Yahoo. It's a public service for Squidoo folks so that they can use the tips to make their lenses shine

I thank you both. I am now getting blogged about on several blogs just for that single lens. It helps with backlinks, traffic, and more.
Hemjoe,
How is your site working out? I really like that one
pcwork,
How much money did you make last month or the month before on all of your sites combined?

It is ok, it is making the odd sale here and there but not a real winner as of yet, but we must remember it isn't a sprint its a marathon and this site is more of a longterm thing.
I just don't find the time at the moment to work on making money online so, i have to use little bits of time here and there to keep the sites goings.
Quoting: Newbie Shield I really like that one
I am glad you like it, i have had others send me comments through the site thanking me, it is such a good feeling knowing i am helping people.

Great work newbie shield! How much traffic are you getting per day average on that top 100 lens?

Hi Marktech,
Thank you. I don't make it a habbit of sharing my traffic stats or income. I don't mind that you asked though. Currently I am just above the 100 mark. It's very difficult to remain in the top 100 for long. Have you been doing well with Squidoo?

NS,
Great work as always. My Lens on Dog Agility is slowly moving up the rankings even though I haven't done much to promote it yet. I do update it regularly though. I know that is key. Please check out my Lens in my signature.

Hi Cindy,
I visited it the day you told me about it. At Squidoo, I am "Music Resource". I also signed your guestbook (page 2 - the big electric guitar avatar), joined your fan club, rated it, and favorited it.
I went back today and I see all of my "foot prints"
Your lens is great and I love the green ms comic sans font with the yellow background in your lens bio.

I'm sorry Newbie. I worded my post incorrectly. I meant for you to look again to see the updates I am doing. Also, if anyone else wants to comment - that's great too.
Cindy

Hi Cindy,
That's okay. I looked at it again today and I am really impressed with the changes. I think the lens is quite complete though add to it as you wish.
I will offer some advice via PM. Check your inbox.

Congrats. I started squidoo simply because you have had so much success with it. Not much to look at now but hopefully in a few months. I haven't had ANY TIME to focus on anything other than taxes ...Yaaayyyy me...
Once things simmer down a bit I hope to get my focus back. . .

Hi OpenDomain,
HTML Squidoo Tricks - the lens in my sig file below - made it to number 53 overall today and number 8 within the How to & Education category. That's out of over 400,000 lenses. Today is Sunday, March 2, 2008. I don't think it will hang there for more than a day (though it may stay in the top 100 for an additional day or two if I am lucky) as I am busy with other things and cannot drive traffic to it for a while.
It had previously dipped into the top 100 at number 100 for a day and a couple weeks later it made it to 97 overall for a day. It's hard to stay there for long. It gets visitors via word of mouth and many return as it is helpful to Squidoo lensmasters for improving lenses
RE: Your above comments - Thanx for the congrats. Sure, prioritize with every thing you do. Good luck with your taxes. I did mine a couple weeks ago and I got my electronic refund three days later. Mortgage and business write-offs help
I'm here to help you with Squidoo in any way I can. I see that you signed up under my account, thanx. Just let me know when you need some tips.

Hi Karen,
Thanx
Now I have two lenses in the top 100 at once. My HTML Squidoo Tricks is actually doing even better today than it was yesterday. It's at number 31 overall and number 6 within the How To & Education category.
My squidoo.com/music-resource lens is at number 80 overall and number 4 in the music category.
I really got a good laugh yesterday and today when I visited the Squidoo forum. They just made major changes to the lens layouts and everyone is screaming about it.
Personally, I like the changes quite a bit and they will continue to fine-tune them. It's true that it messed up my image widths on each lens but aside from that, they layout is a huge improvement.
I also have to change the verbiage on my HTML Squidoo Tricks lens in a couple of places. The optimal width of images is different and Squidoo added a table of contents module. So, that part of my tutorial is now worthless. Not a huge deal. I like change.
What is your lensmaster name? I can go visit one or two of your lenses if you like.

I have managed to get my lens to #245. Just waiting for the next update to see whether it will go up and down.
