Hi all.

I use both HubPages and Squidoo for making money online. After writing content i always post it on Digg, Mixx and several others. I always get much better results with hubpages while squidoo gets hardly any views at all.

Anyone got any ideas as to why this might be???

thanks in advance everyone..............john

Hi,

I have the same problem.
The only thing i could think of was maybe it was because when you do a hub page it is viewable by other hub page users straight away where as for squidoo you have to either get backlinks to it or get it viewed through the search engines, until it is made available to other users through squidoo.
Maybe this has an impact on it.

Sorry i couldn't be of more use but i thought i would just share with you my thoughts on this.

Hi Homebus,

It could be because Hub Pages has a section titled "Featured Hubbers" where newly created hubs are displayed whereas Squidoo lacks the exact equivalent.

Even so, Squidoo is currently showcasing 30 lenses plus another manual slideshow spot right above it where an addition half dozen lenses or more lenses are shown. Only difference is that with Squidoo, the displayed lenses are random rather than the five most recent pages.

On the other hand, the Squidoo TLD is a PR8 whereas the Hub Pages TLD is a PR5. Squidoo has been around longer than Hub Pages.

Even so, I suggest using both as both are very good.

I have no idea why you have more luck with visits on Hub Pages over Squidoo. It doesn't make sense.

Pip: It's been my experience that Squidoo lenses are made available the day after they've been published so I don't know what you're talking about either.

Sorry if the two of you are having trouble with Squidoo but your issues don't make sense to me. I've never heard any complaints like that before. Is anyone else experiencing these issues?

There may be fewer lenses at Hub pages, so each lens get more exposure

Hi pcwork,

I think that Hubbers refer to them as "Hubs".

Newbie shield,

Im not complaining at all i really like squidoo as i found it fun and easy to set up, i was just saying i had the same problem.

As i said i didn't know whether what i was saying was true it was just my thoughts.
I will have another look at my squidoo pages and see if i can amend some things to get a higher views.

Do you know who is viewing your sites??

That is huge when it comes to marketing (in my simple opinion)

If you have no idea where your views are coming from, then you might want to try getting more backlinks as that - to me - is better than a bunch of views that I have no idea where they are coming from!

Squidoo will tell you where the views come from and what keywords were used to find it, etc... which will help you know what form of marketing is working for you...

Do you include affiliate links when you design your Squidoo lenses? Its better to wait a couple of days before you include your affiliate links. I don't know if this is the problem, but it could be.

Pip: I didn't think you were complaining. I took your entry as a bafflement. I'm baffled as well.

Keith did bring up a good point. It's wise to wait a while before you include an affiliate link (or any kind of monetizing).

Getting interaction from the Squidoo community is a big help both in ranking within Squidoo and indirectly with SE ranking. Post your new lenses on the SquidU Critique Me section of the forum to get folks to star, favorite, and comment in your lenses.

This helps with lensrank. Higher lensrank gets more juice in the SEs and more traffic from within the Squidoo community.

Join at least one group to get some juice and traffic from there. Choose your groups wisely.

Create some external back links - Press Release, articles, forums, blogs, etc.

Be active in the community - Squid U, interacting with lenses belonging to others, Blogs about Squidoo, etc.

If you do it this way, you shouldn't see the difference you speak of between Hubs and Lenses.

Make quality lenses. Make sure you have several modules - never less than five. Go easy on the links and banners. Provide value to your visitors.

Spend some time on the appearance. Include some interactive elements - definitely a guestbook (place it at the bottom). Add at least one additional interactive module such as a video or a poll.

As an aside, one thing I love about Hub Pages - the entire site - is that it's very fast. I also like the simplicity of Hub Pages though the Squidoo layout is much more professional.

It's good that you and Homebus raised this issue. You never have to worry about offending me. I like Squidoo but I'm not a fanatic defender of its reputation

I like when people raise issues because the entire community can benefit from the discussion as we all try to troubleshoot together.

Please continue to do so. Troubleshooting is one of the biggest benefits of a forum. We become aware of issues, we all learn by offering advice so that the issue might be resolved, and we have fun chatting with each other in the process.

It's nice to be able to turn to a community for socializing, tossing forth ideas, and to get some help when we need it. Lots of friendly and helpful folks around here. I really like this forum.

PS. You can sneak in an affiliate link later - after the majority of lensmasters have visited your lens during the Critique Me stage. I'd even wait a good month or so

Though affiliate links are allowed and even encouraged by the community, hold off (even if they tell you to add one "right now") for a bit because doing so will decrease the spam feel - though it may be subtle.

You'll get a better reaction and more interaction in regards to rating, favoriting, and guestbook action.

You shouldn't announce that your holding off, just do it quietly.

When they critique you in the forum, thank them even if you decide not to implement one or more suggestions. When someone takes the time out of their day to offer a critique, it's a valuable personal favor. Have the courtesy to show some gratitude.

Squidoo is a social network and SquidU is a sociable community. Those who don't at least interact on the lenses of others and interact on the SquidU forum will decidedly be at a disadvantage.

It's possible to create a lens that rocks in traffic and sales strictly from SEs, but don't risk banking on that alone.

This is all great information, but in the shuffle I have gotten confused. I am in the process of creating a lens showcasing free marketing and advertising techniques. I must admit that some of the articles will include links to places that will have an upgrade involved, although I won't be promoting the upgrade, just the free versions. So, should I continue with the squidoo lens, or should I mirror it in a hubpage in order to get views?

I wouldn't worry about the upgrade - promote whatever you want, and it is up to each individual as to whether they want free or upgrade...

Do BOTH the lens and hub pages and link them all together is what I would say - NS might have something better to add ... he has been doing Squidoo much longer than I have....

Mountain said it perfectly well. Do both and without any worries.

Mountain: Wow, you are just crankin' out those lenses. You'll be a Giant Squid before you know it!

I use both Squidoo and Hubpages and both seem eaqual to me except that Squidoo has more options such as supporting most HTML and a very nice statisics page.

I use both also but noticed that my Hubpages seem to show up in Yahoo! mre than in Google. Don't know the reason for that.
