I watched this video from rich alchemist that talked about LSI keywords. Does anyone know what these are and how to use them or find them for my website?

Thanks

Maurice

LSI or Latent Semantic Keywords are keywords that together support the theme of a document in general.

Lets say you are writing on page on Jogging Shoes. The best way to find LSI keywords would be to go to Google Keyword Tool and enter the term Jogging Shoes in the search box. It would then give you terms related to Jogging Shoes. These are terms which Google thinks might be possibly related to your search term. Now you don't go and add all of them to your document. Use your wisdom and think what terms might possibly go well with the flow of your document. Some examples would be men jogging shoes, womens jogging shoes, good shoes for jogging, best jogging shoes, jogging shoes for flat feet, jogging shoe reviews...

When you use these related keywords in your document, it tells search engines that your page is indeed related to Jogging Shoes.

If you plan well before creating a website and structure your content accordingly by using appropriate sub-directories and grouping the content (Silo), you need not worry about LSI or anything. Your website will most likely be well themed.

It's also incorrect, if you did that you would be keyword stuffing for the term jogging shoes, those are not LSI words, running sneakers would be a LSI for jogging shoes... or track footwear is another.. LSI words are synonyms, not re-arranged keywords for a topic

LSI stands for "Latent Semantic Indexing" and supposedly Google uses LSI keywords to determine ranking.

dmitch31:
supposedly

Good point David, they apparently don't use it for ranking, just for searches.
For instance, if you type "biz" vs "business" it will suggest both but
only the site that actually uses the chosen word will rank high.
What people need to do is use LSI to write their posts.
Frog and Toad may mean the same but each has it's own results.
Use both!

LSIs are basically words which are related to the main keyword.

Think about when you're having a conversation with someone - you start off talking about "getting pregnant" for example. You would mention other related words during the conversation, such as "babies", "giving birth", "hospital" etc.

It all helps Google and other search engines to identify just what your web page is about and how they should return it in the search results.

The Google Wonder Wheel used to help with getting LSI keywords, but since they scrapped that, you could just key in your search term in Google, and then scroll down to the bottom of the page to find "related searches". This should give you pretty good ideas for LSIs.

Hope that helps.
