Research Question:
If you were able to purchase name brand grocery items online and have it delvered to your door for less money, how many would?
The reason I ask is because I research everything, and having done well with a home grocery business back in '95 before it was mainstream, I always liked concept, but the masses did not warm up to it ordering from a catalog. Computer stores were far and few between back then.
With the aging population, and gas prices more of a concern these days, never mind the booming online shopping arena which was not well established back in the 90's, so what is your opinion?
If you could order name brand groceries online for less, would you? Like every business idea, it is all about timing, and where the timing was not great as the first wholesale to home grocery business, so I saw resistance, but still did well with it for a year before it folded.
So my question is simple, if you could transfer buy the same staple goods you already purhase weekly or monthly from your local grocery store, would you? These would be items like toilet paper, tissues, dish detergents, canned goods, soap, the things you purchase over and over again, would you order these online to shorten your time at local grocer for the last minute items or meats and vegetables, as example.
I am just trying to get a little feed back on how mindsets and consumer shopping habits have changed over the past fifteen years. Saving money is bottom line, convenience would be second given more dual income families exist today than in '95, so if you could save time, money and hassle of grocery shopping, would you order staples online?
Thanks,

I was in a business that tried that, probably back around the time you talked about.
Short of it is, I think people like to see the food they are buying, so the business model didn't work out well. Even many staple items.
A mobile business taking people to the grocery store may be a better ideal.

Depends - I shop sales so it would definitely depend on pricing for me but there are many folks that can't get out as easily as I can that you would think would be grateful for such a program....

Personally I wouldn't have my groceries delivered, because why pay someone else when I can do it my self? It might work better in specific time periods, such as when the weather is bad and no one wants to go out, and I would think that a person who is very wealthy might be more likely to do it rather than someone who doesn't have a lot of money. My guess is that this would have very little start up costs, so you might as well give it a run if you have the extra time and money - you could also think about things that worked to market it when you did it before and apply them with the re-start up.

Thanks gang,
I have posted on several forums getting feedback, and the question I am hearing most is how good are the prices. It is not paying someone else to shop for you, it is online grocery shopping delivered to your home, and with more women working these days, I am getting positive response given they don't have the time they once had.
Price examples:
Brand Name SRP MHA Price*
Kellogg's Corn Flakes, 18 oz $3.98 $1.99
General Mills Wheaties, 15.6 oz $4.98 $2.49
Bumble Bee Tuna, 5 oz $.98 $.20
Folgers Coffee Regular, 34oz $9.99 $5.99
Kraft Macaroni & Cheese, 7.5 oz $1.00 $.39
Jif Peanut Butter (creamy) 18oz $1.66 $.69
Reynolds Foil, 25 SF $1.68 $.69
More to learn, but since I live 17 miles from grocery store with closing of closest, now 10 miles away in Jan., this is sounding more interesting, so like with everything, it all depends on your circumstances.
Thanks,
