I just had the scariest experience in my life. I've been working for Travis Spencer with Cargo-Direct. Last week I received a package from Fed-Ex which was unusal in itself because normally I receive my parcels from UPS. None the less I accepted it. The next day which was Wednesday Fed Ex came by and picked it back up. That was really strange. I tried to find out but the company it was purchased from was closed so I thought I would call the next day which was Thursday. Well I am in the restroom and my husband is asleep and all of a sudden there is this really hard knocking on our front door not once but twice and I hear my husband saying he thinks its the Police, which it was and they had a warrant to search everything in our home including the computer. We had no problem letting them as we had nothing to hide. We thought we were working for a ligitamate company as I had checked them out to the best of my knowlege which after the police being here I found out wasn't very much knowledge. They showed up how these people can set up fake websites and all kinds of things which blew us away. Now we know how to check things out to a greater degree than ever before. They were extremely kind and found out we had no clue that what we were doing was receiving and shipping stolen goods and getting payed on top of it. Not a lot but the pay was helpful. But now I have no job which is a bummer.
If you ever see anything concerning a Travis Spencer or Cargo-Direct do not fall for it, it is a scam and were praying somehow they catch this person or persons and can prosicute them which I don't know how hard it is as they are out of the country from Russia actually. So far as we know they haven't stolen our identities but I have no bank but my husband is keeping an eye on his. This is really scary to experience something of this nature. I couldn't even sleep that night after being so upset. But we totally co-operated with the police and will continue to help them. So beware of this company and Travis Spencer. I imagine if he's not caught he will go on to use some other name and some other company name now that he's been on 60 minutes we heard also.
So if you ever see an ad saying they will pay you 24 usa dollars per parcel stay as far away from it as possible. That's the big hint plus the fact that its out of Russia.

I pray the Good Lord will stop him somehow someway and his other people that he is working with so this doesn't happen to anyone else.

Wow, so did the police actually take your computer? If so how did you get it back?

Man that is a horrible experience. Where do you live? Most police departments seem unable to actually investigate this sort of thing due to jurisdiction and stuff like that.

I called the FBI and filled a report with the IC3.gov. Guess what? They don't care folks. And businesses don't care either. They have software that can identify identity theft but they don't use it because it cost a fee per transaction.

Cargo-direct is still up and running. why?

I applied to the cargo-direct.com opportunity, and was lucky enough not to get contacted again even after I faxed them my stuff. Thinking about it today, I searched for it and found this thread. Once I heard about all the sad stories, I wanted to help do something about it. I know that the whois database displays all information about a registered domain on the web. I had a domain once, and my domain info was displayed without me even knowing it.

So I looked up cargo-direct.com on the whois database, and here is all of the information of the person linked to cargo-direct.com. See if you all could do something with this. His real name might be Gregorij N Kogan!

I never came back to update what had happened to me. I was directed by the FBI to open the packages I had received. Inside were packing slips with the company information manly high end tech items, laptops, digital cameras, mp3 players and the like.

They came from Staples.com, egghead.com and various sites that sold such items. I was directed to contact the companies and let them know I had the package and how I came about obtaining the package. The companies all sent call tags for the items to be picked up.

This also protected me. If anyone came back on those charges, the addresses, or tried to investigate the company has on file the circumstances under why and how I came upon the package and would not press charges against me for credit card theft or fraud.

This mans been out there a long time doing this, they do know he has been but have been unable to catch him because by the time they realize the fraud you are the one getting the packages and they come after you. You try to explain however will have no valid contact with Mr Bitterman or what ever name he choses to use this month and all contact numbers will no longer work.

I know when I fell for this within a week the email was taken down and the phone number for the initial fax was no longer in service. The western union transfers made to a friend of mine were always done through different cities, different agents and always in cash.

I was told by the FBI at the time it was a big racket out of Bulgaria that would buy SS numbers from hackers when things get hacked, liek banks, credit card companies etc. I knwo Home Depot was hacked not long ago and peopels SS #'s were stolen. They buy these up, purchase high end items in the US under fake credit cards, have you ship them off to different parts of th world and you are verifying on customs forms whats in the package and why you are sending it. So you are the one left holding the bag when the fraud is discovered and some people haven't been so lucky andhave been convicted of fraud due to this...as per what the FBI told me at the time.

I covered myself with credit protection and with contacting the companies and returning the merchandise. I recommend if anyone is involved in this scam they do the same so it doesn't come back after you.

My friend who was involved in this as well was waiting for a transfer from this person for work she had performed and around the time the phone number stopped working the money stopped coming as well. So eventually the money will end and you'll be left with a bunch of packing material and such you don't need, paid for, and will never receive compensation with, and if worst case scenario, a felony charge and ordered to pay restitution on anything they can find carried a customs form under your name.

Be safe!

I was duped too !! I worked for Travis Spencer at Cargo direct, sent 6 packages and never received paycheck. A detective called me though and said if I got any more packages, return to sender and I received a check, not to cash in, but get in touch with him. I am disabled and really needed to make some money from home, which I will never do again !

Okay my situation seems to be the same but a bit different. I had applied for a job on Monterey Bay Jobs and i got respond 1 month later by a guy name Greg (no last name)

In his first email he wrote writing this-

Are you looking for a part time job? I am looking for someone who can handle my personal and business errands at his/her spare time. Someone who can offer me these services: Mail services: Receive my mails and drop them off at Fed ex(nothing illegal).Shop for Gifts Sit for delivery( at your home) or pick items up at nearby post office at your convenience.
Let me know if you will be able to offer me any of these services.

I responded back to him saying that im out of the US at the moment but that i wont be back a month from now (this date)

So he wrote back and said in the 2nd email

I would love to meet up with you to talk about this job but I am currently away on business and then

I am in Australia so there will be no interview. I will prepay you in advance to do my shopping. I will also have my mails and packages forwarded to your address. If you will be unable to stay at your house to get my mails, I can have it shipped to a post office near you and then you can pick it up at your convenience"
When you get my mails/packages; you are required to mail them to where I want them mailed to. You don't have to put money out of your pocket, all you have to do is have packages shipped to your house and do my shopping. You are allowed to open the packages to reveal its content. The content of the packages are computer and electronics, clothing business and personal letters. All expenses and taxes will be covered by me. You will work between 15 and 20hrs a month. How much will you charge per month? I will pay $500. That is not a bad offer is it? I need your service because I am constantly out of town. I work in real estate and I own an Art Gallery in Australia. I will return to America in March so this process will be on going till then. If you don't mind, I will meet up with you when I return and then we can talk about the possibility of making this long term. Well, let me know if you are able to handle the position.
Hope to hear from you soon."

Can anyone tell me if this is either a scam or a personal assistant offer?

Thanks-
