I recently did a small research with rip-off to see what it's all about as you hear people mention things like - go see what rip-off says about a company,etc...

Here is what I found - almost every business is listed somewhere on rip-off.. even like Tupperware, which we would all agree is not a scam opportunity!

The other thing I noticed was that in a lot of instances it was a place for people to vent their frustration with their business because it did not produce what was promised - or what they thought they were getting...

Now, get me right - I know there are scams out there. I have been 'took' by several, but that was MY fault. I shoulda done more research. Actually in a few cases it was a learning experience and it quickly opened my eyes to help spot the rascals better - lol

I believe if we plan to be 'home business owners' we need to start thinking like business people think and not throw a tantrum when things don't go as we think and blame everyone else for our mistakes!

Online business is no different than offline in the fact that it takes work, effort and usually money. We have been trained by our society to think as consumers with the mindset of 'How much is this gonna cost me?" - and we need to put our 'business mindcaps' on to realize that what we need to look at is "What is my ROI - return on investment?"

I honestly believe that if folks would put as much effort into building their business as they do in venting their frustrations, they would be successful like everyone else!

So anyways - that's my two cents worth about rip-off report - lol! I will get off my soap box and back to building my business.

Viola

I have done quite a number of searches on Ripoff report into some programs which I have seen on this forum, I must say that some of these reports are accurate such as the Ultimate Wealth Package & Instant Money Vault. These reports would be mixed for other home based businesses but it is a good source of information if you want too research a particular program.

Some "good" companies do end up on the ripoffreport, because people like to complain when they have a bad experience with a company. Having said that, I can almost guarantee that most of the rip off reports filed about work at home companies are totally accurate. While the ripoffreport is not "perfect", it is a great source of information if you are researching work at home opportunities.

They also sell a really good workbook for if you've been the victim of a ripoff. It gives you advice on how to handle it - specifically if you've been ripped off for a large sum of money.

Well, I agree that a lot of legitimate offers get put on rip-off reports but I also think that MOST offers in general that ask for an up front fee are rip offs. If anybody knows of a program that asks for an up front fee that is really a good program, (as long as you work it), I would like to hear about it. Hey, offline companies never ask for an upfront fee, if these online companies were legit they would take whatever fee out of your first paycheck!

Ever buy a hotdog stand or an espresso shack for free? No different online - some work at home offers are for business opportunities, others are not...

Originally the whole point of Rip-Off Report was to help consumers who were victimized by a local business. Example: they paid for a new exhaust system at Midas and two weeks later it fell off. Midas did a shoddy job but they won't make good on the deal. The "Rip-Off Report" Publication was to show you how to deal with a local business.

People wanted to know how to apply those principles with online businesses, and of course, the owner and writer of Rip-Off Report said, "oh yeah, it'll work for those too." But not so much really.

Rip-Off Report isn't really supposed to be used for exposing "scams" but more for consumers who have been treated unfairly in some sort of consumer transaction.

I totally agree some good opportunities which are not scams end up on rip off report however I have still found it quite useful when researching home based businesses.

If you know what to look for on rip of report you can definitely learn from it. I'll give you a good example and a bad example of what you want to be looking for.
Good Example:
I've been working with company x for 6 months and have yet to receive a payment on any of my sales. I cannot get ahold of their help desk and none of my calls are being returned. I've tried to mail them and mail comes back undeliverable. I've check their website and cannot find any further information about them to contact them. When I signed up they ask for X amount upfront to be sent via cash.

Bad example.
I signed up with company Y and I'm not a millionaire yet. I've tried to contact support but they are not helpful at all. I don't get what I'm doing and I want a refund of all my money. This company has only been around for 8 years. My sponsor has not been very helpful and all the promises of making it big are not coming true. This DOES NOT WORK. STAY AWAY.

The good example shows that the company is probably a scam group and will be gone soon.
The bad example is just someone who didin't make it. Regardless of all the guarantees out there, there is nothing that is for sure in marketing online.

In everything I sign up for I check multiple sources...ripoff report being one of them. I've learned a lot about what to expect when signing up for something based on other people's experiences. I use ripoff report as a tool to help me weigh out my risk and decide if this "opportunity" is something I'd like to gamble on.

I think anyone who's been online long enough can tell you working online can be a gamble until you know what you're doing.

Also it helps if you have the right help.
When I first started with GDI my upline sucked. Still does IMHO, BUT because of my experience I try not to be the same crappy upline I had.

One thing about ripoff report that I recently found out that they do not post all complaints. I have filed 2 on the same company and they do not come up. Also past complaints on this company you cannot read the actual complaint , but a bunch of nonsense what the company is doing to improve their reputation. The company that I had trouble with (Achieved Technologies) has not contacted me directly, but through Ripoff Report and Ripoff Report forwarded their message to me. I believe Achieve Technologies is paying them to keep their complaints off of the web site. These online businesses are fine, but the representative needs to be honest and upfront about the costs. My advise is to stay away from a fellow named Jeff Albright. He is a cad.

While you looking about on those companies and others make sure you also check out the owner of this site as well. Over the years I have learned that the internet is there is always two sides to every story ALWAYS. Grant you some of the claims on this site is valid but even the person that owns this site is a crimal.

Racketeering Charges Filed! Conspiracy and Racketeering (RICO) proceedings as well as claims for defamation and invasion of privacy are being issued against Ed Magedson owner or RIP OFF REPORT and Bad Business Bureau - under a Federal Court in Phoenix Arizona. The warrant has been issued against Rip Off Report, Bad Business Bureau - owner Ed Magedson for the operation including the sites: ripoffreport.com, badbusinessbureau.com, and a number of countless other "consumer advocate" sites being orchestrated by the extortion consortium. Ed Magedson operates his illegal extortion scam under the guise of "consumer advocacy" sites - to force innocent companies into paying him to take down his dirty posts. Currently 28 Attorney Generals and 17 Federal Prosecutors throughout the U.S. are pursuing Ed Magedson and the rip off report. Known to draft court service notices since 1992 (long before he started this extortion operation), rewards of up to $50,000 have been offered for his whereabouts. If you do a key word search under "Ed Magedson" you will see his shady past.

But the legitimate companies are not paying. Currently there are almost 100 court cases pending against Ed Magedson including a judgement against ED for Ten Million Dollars - under the courts of Nevis where he has hosted his websites in the past.

Ed Magedson and the Rip Off Report EXPOSED in a WSVN Fox News Television Report! Click here to view!

USA Today issues warning that bloggers are inaccurate forms of information. For more information click here.

Here are just a few of the sites you will find when you do a keyword search in google using the phrase "Ed Magedson".

Best to scan forums like this to get a better picture on companies for these rip off and scam sites are totally slanted in most cases, and anyone can post anything which is not verified, so be careful and do not take what is on these sites as gospel, look for balanced reports, pros and cons.

Success to all,

Yes don't look at just once source for your information. As you can see there are alot of pros and cons just to the ripoff riports!! check BBB if you must which I don't bank on alot but they are used by alot of people search forum like this just put a search in for the company name or nicknames if they have one. If nothing else ASK. That usually is one of the best ways to find out and go to several forums and ask the same question and see what pops up. And remember you have weight in all comments to make sure they are legite and not some disgruntled past ex-business person that couldn't make it because he didn't put in the effort and expected to get rich over night. I am sure there are quite a few out there as open domain pointed out the difference. You have to read between the lies as well. So you are doing the right thing by asking here to start with. There is also e-opinon I am not sure if they have this kind of info but you get the idea find other review sites too

So true Mountain Mom... and I'll add that's one reason I almost exclusively purchase reports using Pay-Pal... If I get ripped-off it's a lot easier to get my money back.

BTW, this is in theory I have yet to ask for a refund from anyone.

I have yet to find ANY business that you can own yourself for "FREE!" You will ALWAYS have to make some kind of monetary investment to see ANY returns. You will also ALWAYS have to put in your time and effort. Offline companies that do not ask for an upfront fee are categorized as "jobs." It's great to have a job, but.......They are not giving you an opportunity to own your own business, be your own boss, and work when you decide to work.
