Good Luck Julie...hope you find more and more success. I understand how you feel about home businesses because I was scammed 3 times as well. I recently came across something that works for me too!. Guess instead of three...fourth times a charm eh?

NewRich23, You may be on to something there. Maybe most of us have a burned 3 times threshold before we decide that we will not waste anymore time or money unless the products or business is tried and true with long lasting results. I must say though, that I did have some success with all 3 others that I tried, before they failed, so at least I did get loads of knowledge and experience with marketing online. So, I can't say as my past experiences were a total loss. We just live and learn and realize that when you join anything "new" you are taking a risk.

Update... I am now in "Leadership" with Avon. I had someone approach me about selling and got them all signed up last week. In case some don't know, the "leadership" part of Avon is completely optional. There are lots of Avon Reps who do not want to help others get into the business and can simply refer people to someone already in leadership.
I am so excited, I just wanted to share!

Good for you Julsy. My sister is a sales rep too. She's not seriously into it though. Let us know how you progress.

Julsy I see that you are doing very well in this new business. Congratulations
I'm glad that Avon has eReps now. It's much easier to order online

Avon can be very time consuming, but I know for a fact that it can be very effective.

Hi Julsy, My wife was considering Avon as another business until she read this:
http://floridaspagirls.blogspot.com/2009/10/avon-linked-to-cancer-with-toxic.html
and this,
http://www.triplepundit.com/2010/04/hello-green-avon/
It is a good thing to see that they are getting closer, but they are not quite there yet. We are watching to see if they will take the final step

melanow, Can you tell me a specific product? All Reps have the ability to look them up and tell clients exactly what is in every product before buying. I have yet to find one with "parabens" in it, unless they are other clinical names for parabens?
Either way, I have no doubt that Avon will do everything needed to resolve this, if it is in fact an issue. Avon gives millions every year to breast cancer research. And does everything possible to keep the integrity of the Avon brand name, and has for over 100 yrs, so I can't imagine they would drop the ball now.
Thank you for this information and please keep me posted if you find out more.

Hi Julsy,
Researchers do say that parabens are in some of their products , but they don't say which ones. There is no doubt in my mind that they will rectify any problems.
However this is kind of strange:
Avon's director of corporate responsibility, Susan Arnot Heaney, told me in an email that it was the policy of the company "not to enter into contracts or compacts with special interest groups, which may represent religious, ethnic, environmental, health or other interests in countries around the world," but she did not explain why. She did though add that the company chooses not to "depend upon such compacts to define or guide [the company's] commitment to do what is right," adding, "If there is any new evidence that warrants a new evaluation of products or ingredients, Avon takes appropriate action to protect our customers."
They have nothing to lose and everything to gain by signing agreements where environment and health are concerned. That policy is probably one they have had for many years, but today the environment and health should be at the forefront and their company policies should reflect that.

Well, here's another thing that I thought about, researchers change their minds like the wind. So, until they have proven that parabens do in fact cause cancer and there is a law outlawing the use of them in any product (assuming there are perabens in Avon products, which hasn't been proven either) can you imagine any company going around changing every product they have at the whim of what researchers say? Does that make sense?
Here's an example of my meaning, researchers have said for years that sacarine that is found in diet drinks is more hamful than sugar and can cause cancer. This has never been proven and the debate goes on. I have yet to see any huge company like the Pepsi Corporation etc etc, stop carrying diet drinks or even stopping the use of sacarine. Another example is that researchers have said for several years now that placing plastic containers in the microwave causes cancer, yet every big name food company still sells food in plastic microwavable containers.
I am guessing that no company can go around changing it's products until laws are passed because of ingredients being proven as dangerous.
Just my take on it.

Correction... Most diet soda's have stopped using saccharin (I spelled it wrong above also) and now use aspertame. The issues with aspertame are almost the same as with sacchrine and most diet soda company's still continue to use aspertame in their diet drinks.
Also, after much researching of the foundations sold by Avon, I did in fact find a few with some forms of parabens. However, I am very proud to say that before purchasing anything on my Avon site, there in a link under every product sold that allows every customer to click on the ingredients link and read a complete list of all ingredients contained in that product before purchasing. So, I think it is a personal preference at this point whether you personally feel comfortable purhasing a product containing parabens. I was also happy to find lots of other foundations that did NOT contain any parabens at all.

I sold Avon for a while and did very well with it. It's a very reputable company with great earning potential. $180 for your first campaign is great and I trust that your sales will grow, exponentially, from now on.
Good luck with your GREAT business choice!

Thank You WAHMCtr! It is truly the only business I have ever done that I am actually making consistent money right from the beginning. And like you say, I am still building my client base, so hopefully it will continue to grow.
Incase others are not aware... Avon has fast-start bonuses and pays all new Reps an automatic 40% of their sales. This is just so that new reps can begin earning quickly!

I wanted to post an update and brag a little about working for Avon. I must report that I am so pleased with the company. Aside from all the great products, Avon has quartely meetings in every district and I attended ours today. I got free stuff that I can keep for myself or sell and also got all the latest updates about all the goings on with Avon. Then I was literally floored when our district manager actually went around the room and asked... "who wants my help getting more customers?" All of us were given the chance to set up a date and time to go out with our district manager and she will approach customers for us and show us how to do it and to get sales. I am so impressed! I must say that I have never been in any other business where you get this kind of one on one help! Also during our meeting, one of the girls name was drawn that sold a certain item during our last campaign and she and her customer that purchased the item both won $200.00 in free Avon products. This was done in every district. Plus there is a car givaway going on right now for a Rep and a customer who will both win a car! And in the fall of this year, they will be giving away a Sandals Resort vaction for two. Anyway, I just wanted to report that I am very satisfied so far being an Avon Lady and eRep!

Hi Julsy,
I'm so happy for you and enjoy sharing in your achievements with Avon. You sound like you are having a great time and that's half the battle, isn't it? Enjoying what you are doing and making money at it are two things that really, when melded together, make our work seem more worthwhile.
I hope you win the car!
Blessings, Angie

happywife, thank you and you are so right. How much easier it is when you are actually having fun and enjoying products that make your business so easy to brag about. Makes it less like "work" and more like enjoying what you do. At the meeting we were also asked to tell what our favorite product is and one girl said that she loved all the products, but her favorite part of being a rep was that every other Saturday was just like Christmas morning! We get our orders delivered to our front doors every other Sat. morning. (But every district has different ordering/shipping days) And she is so right. It does feel like Christmas when you wake up and break into the boxes to see everyones goodies, LOL!

Hi Julsy,
Avon is a great company and I can tell your passionate about them. My concern was that I read a post in another forum that said that Avon only has there company generic web site and they have a policy that does not allow you to build your own website that links to the generic site. If that is true? This will could limit your abilities to market yourself on the internet.

wrlawrence... I just went through all the policies for eReps and the way I understand it is that you cannot create another site to sell products on. I didn't read anything that says you cannot create a site to promote your online store, with links to your store. It goes on to say... examples being online auctions or classified advertisements. So, unless I am not understanding this correctly, I take this to mean that you cannot sell products accept through youravon.com site.
I as well as almost every Avon rep I know has a facebook page, twitter page etc etc all promoting products and our Avon site, the thing is, you must go to our youravon.com site in order to purchase products, that is the key. Again, I could be mistaken, but I don't see a problem with creating a site as long as you are not trying to sell products on it.
I completely appreciate the Avon site, because you can personalize it the way you want it. I also love that everything through your site is 100% automated with an excellent system that e-mails your entire list automatically, plus you can go in and send whatever e-mails you want as well. It makes the eRep part of our business completely run itself! All we do is promote, promote, promote!

Thanks for clearing that up. So you should be able to build a site where the search engines will rank you and you get your own prospects and your site can be linked to the avon product site where your avon sales can be made.

I don't see why not? The reason I say this is because our back office even allows us to link our Facebook page to our storefront Avon site, in other words, when anyone goes on my profile, you can see a big Avon sign saying "shop my Avon store". So, I can't see them allowing it on Facebook and not allowing it on any other site as long as you aren't selling on the linked site. That's the way It makes sense to me anyway.
