So I took the plunge and recently signed up with PL. I have been lurking on this board for a little and would really appreciate some guidance from some more familiar users.
I am still in the learning and projects stage of my PL experience but I like to set distant goals so I can monitor where my progress is and keep myself motivated toward a goal.
I would like to share my vision with you, please let me know if I am seeing things properly or if I need to adjust my sights a little bit.
Obviously I am going to get my feet wet with some simple blogs, articles etc to try to get my feet wet in the IM arena but what I envision for my first major project is this:
I would create a website. This website would relate to a field in wich I consider myself an expert. I imagine this site could contain approx. 10-15 sections. Each section pertaining to a different facet of my field.
Each srction wojuld contain different related affilliate marketing content etc. I would obviously also be running adsense on all pages.
I would then use the PL techniques- Blog, Articles, SEO etc, to drive the traffic to different specific sections of my site hoping that hits in one section of the site will lead traffic to the sections as well.
Is this the right general idea?
To be a successful IM do I need several of these sites or can I expect to eventually make a reasonable income from driving traffic to just one site that contains a wealth of information?
I believe I can write enough valuable content to make my site worth reading.
Am I heading down the right path?
Do I need my scope to be bigger? i.e eventually have several of these types of sites
Any knowledge you could impart would be appreciated.

dbmoney306: To be a successful IM do I need several of these sites or can I expect to eventually make a reasonable income from driving traffic to just one site that contains a wealth of information? Hello DB and welcome to the forum.
I commend you for having such a clear vision this early in the game. That's a good thing. It's entirely possible for you to make a reasonable income from one site, but the nature of IM lends itself to having several profitable sites... one at a time.
There are many reasons why that's a smart way to go. Perhaps the most important of those has to do with spreading your risk and not putting all your eggs in one basket.
dbmoney306: Am I heading down the right path? I'd say you are. You're the most qualified person to determine your strengths, passion and motivation. If you apply the same thoroughness to the things you have to do along the way, you'll eventually make it to your dream.
dbmoney306: Do I need my scope to be bigger? i.e eventually have several of these types of sites You can raise that question later, after you've got your original vision up and running. That would be a more appropriate time to consider that possibility.
You must resist the temptation to bite off more than you could chew.

Thanks for the reply...I do understand that eventually having multiple sites will just allow me to develop a larger presence and concentrate driving traffic to whichever sites are the most profitable at that time.
So this has led me to my next problem...
I need to create or at least begin creating my first site while I am honing my traffic driving skills so that when I am ready to begin promoting I have a nice site to work with.
I am not an html expert, I do not know how to build my own site.
Can anyone lead me to a site, company or web designer who can cost effectively build me a site?
I need a site that I can edit in the future. I need the ability to add/delete content/links as needed. I need a site that is ready to go but also customizable by me.
Is there such a product out there?
Is it going to cost me a fortune?
The affiliate websites PL provides are fine for practice, and may even make a little money, but I am really loking to create a detailed site about my field that will host a ton of affilliate links, adsense and eventually my own info products.
Do I need to go learn html? Or is it feasible to have someone else build my site?
Any direction you could provide would be appreciated.

dbmoney306: Do I need to go learn html? Or is it feasible to have someone else build my site? My advice would be to learn HTML and develop your own site building skills. It's really not that difficult to grasp. In the longterm it'll be the most cost effective solution. You will always have control of your websites and the freedom to make improvements at will, without having to pay for the privilege.
Plus, you're taking the time now to learn traffic generating strategies, so adding HTML to the mix would be a timely and wise decision. It'll help you to understand some of the finer points relating to SEO, keywords and several other areas. The insight you gain on how these elements inter-relate will give you a competitive edge.
Alternatively, you can have your site custom built at a significant cost, or you could use a WYSIWYG site builder. MountainMom5 can fill you in on the pros and cons of SiteBuildIt (SBI). She's our resident SBI expert. Check out the link in her signature.

A8ch: You must resist the temptation to bite off more than you could chew. You will succeed!
However:
You will realize overflow of ideas especially when you are just starting. You will also learn that you won't be able accomplish everything at the same time.
This is what I learned:
You will be amazed at the results of the big players and you will try to set goals as big as theirs. This is fine but it is better to break down big goals into smaller goals.
Small goals are easier to accomplish but do not underestimate - they are sure path to your main goal success.
Just imagine if you are able to accomplish one. You will have the confidence, motivation and energy to accomplish the next one.
