Be different - be honest and you may be surprised at what happens. I did not like selling so I quit mlm but I do know it works.....

Because, just like in the traditional business world, there are unscrupulous individuals out there. Good thing you caught on. Don't let that discourage you from anything. Drive on!

I have been involved in network marketing on and off for 25 years. As a matter of fact I cut my teeth in MLM in Amway and spent almost 3 years investing everything I made back into the business, just to find out that it was almost impossible to get a decent check!
Since then, I have made some money and lost some money in network marketing. I have learned one important thing...If it's to be, It's up to me!
Your success or failure depends on aligning yourself with individuals who are making money in the industry and doing exactly what they are doing.
This can be difficult if your upline abandons you, but not impossible. I found a group that offers 10 free generic trainings a week. There are leadership trainings, think and grow rich, the 5 pillars of success, communication and marketing trainings. All interactive and not mentioning any companies or trying to sell anything.
If you are interested, it is called Mentoring for Free and the link is in my signature... And it actually is absolutely free.

In my team, I do not preach HYPE at all. The only thing I teach them is how many leads they should get in everday, where to advertise, how to advertise, what books to read, etc....
This has proven time and time again for me that my techniques do work and that is why some on my team has thanked me for a great free training.
Yes, hype sells but it does not help a lot in the long run.

I'm honest with my potential recruits too...I tell them they'll get out of it what they put in.

Uplines have to lie because they have to convince people to join them. I have been a victim of the lies that an upline once told me. His lies were so convincing that I was urged to givein and take the chance.
Now I realized that in an MLM you have to be good in doing sales talk to get lots of downlines.
Good thing I switched to Internet/Affiliate Marketing.
In Affiliate Marketing, we don't need to hear the lies of our upline.
It's our own job to make our business grow and be successful.

Yeah, the current company I'm with teaches us to build the business the out dated Industrial Age way of bugging your friends and family to buy products or join the business.
But I refuse to do it any other way than they Internet since we are in the Information Age after all. As far as my sponsor goes I never really had one, but that doesn't matter. My success is up to me and noone else.

Old school tactics work. It works for some people, but it does not work for a lot of people.
Back in the day, before the Internet, mlm was sold to people on one's network (friends and family). The reason being is that you had influence, credability, and it didn't take much skill to get people in your warm market to buy into your deal.
For those who persevered and pushed through, this worked. For others people, it didn't work and here we are today...where people often turn to the cold market first before ever venturing into their warm market.
Some ol' timers still rue the day Mike Dillard and Ann Sieg introduced Internet marketing to network marketers because people have become busy trying to put the Internet into their business and are just getting overwhelmed, fed up by it all.
Where as some people have successfully used the Internet to their advantage and found success in the cold market, where as they were failing before with the "old"school tactics.
You do what works for you.
Remember an upline is just a person who happen to sign up in the company before you did. They didn't have to pass any test or prove any kind of marketing knowledge or skill before they were labled an "upline."
Like someone stated before, we are each responsible for our own success.

Hi, I love all the posts.
There are some things that are certain in life and one is "if it works for one it will work for all". It's the same in Network Marketing. There are no accidents for success.
Our upline is not responsible for our success. They are just people doing the best they can with what they know. If we are not fortunate to have someone who is successful and has the "know how" to show us the ropes then we better go find someone who can.
The alternative would be to quit and that surely guarantees failure. I've had many mentors along the way and not one of them was in my upline.
You'll find help if you search out the guru's and follow them on Facebook and Twitter, etc. You'll learn the skills to be successful calling on your warm market, what to say and how to build a successful team.
To your success,
Ginger Hogue

I must say that some were sincere in what they told us because that's all they knew. When you get the attitude that you want to be responsible for your success and go and find what's missing, then that pretty much puts you on the right path. Stay true to yourself and the vision you have for your future and everything will work out fine.

I have been in the same position you're in and I took a different road (affiliate marketing) because I got so upset with my upline. That was a few years ago and now I'm looking for a good MLM with honest people I can work with. Good Luck to us both!

Your upline is just following the same techniques that they have been told by their uplines that make them successful and do not want to learn a new way or be told they could be wrong. Yes people do make money this way because i have done it. I alo realize that those who position themsleves on the internet now will be the sucess in business tomorrow. People do not like change and learn take on the new model is scary. They feel they cannot control and duplicate thier efforts. But you can by using the internet and teaching these strategies. To be a sucess in anything you must be passionate, work hard and will willing to change, adapt and seek for improvement.

It's important for an upline to be honest with his/her downlines in order to build a long term Business. Communication, motivation and constantly have his/her downlines best interest in mind.

Seems like most mlm are a hard sell based on accessory type of products. Naturally sales tactics will be based on building hype & excitement based on dream scenarios.
Look for a product that has a "cause and effect," a viable product that everybody needs to enhance their life.

My Up-lines don't lie but I feel that a reason some Up-line's may lie is because the company is not a credible company. Another reason may be because the individual is in the wrong business. What they fail to realize is....the face that KARMA is real. They must overstand that if they grow a business on lies eventually it will all disappear before their very eyes. They shouldn't be confused about why it happened? GOD doesn't like ugly.

I have always been honest with my people. I can't be any other way. If I was selling a product to someone and they would evaribly ask if I liked it I would tell them yes or no. And there were some in the line that I didn't like!! And there ones in the same line that I did like. I am sure you didn't like everything that Amway sold, or Shaklee sold. I am in a wonderful business now that doesn't sell anything. But I am still honest with people. If I dont'have the answer to something I ask my upline or keep going until I find the answer. I have great support in my upline and it hasn't always been that way. But everyone is right it is up to you. If you can't get your answers from you upline then go to someone else in the business and ask. I am willing to help anyone and isn't that why alot of us are here to help each other??? I am no saint but I am honest to a fault. Sometimes in business you can talk yourself out of a sale or a recruit. But it won't stop me from being honest with people.
Yes there are some outdated material but then again if it is a proven system to work.....the theory is don't reinvent the wheel?? And if someone doesn't have any training or knowledge it can help them. It gives them someplace to start anyway

I don't know why people would lie to their prospects because it's only setting them up for disappointment. I think the problem here is that your upline isn't lying to you but they're only telling you what they know.
Network marketing can and does work but you have to have the right skills to be successful. Sure, lots of people get lucky and have some big checks in the beginning but you know what? Those checks and their business will both dry up if they don't gain new skills.
"In order for things to change, you have to change."
Another part of these lies is the fact that there are a lot of people drawn to this industry because of the promise to get rich quick and they're told it's almost like winning the lottery. We have to set up expectations for our new business partners and let them know this ain't no lottery.
It's awesome that you're in business for yourself but don't you think if realistic expectations were set up in the beginning that you'd have a drastically different outlook? Just curious.

If you dont know if your upline is a true successor or not than dont follow him, follow someone else you know that is..
