Hi all, ever feel like you have more work than hours in a day? Well, that's the way it was starting to feel to me. I was working all the time and it was no fun. I was reading email at 10 pm.....then couldn't go to sleep.

It reminded me when I first started working from home. At first, I worked all the time, then I played all the time and after a while my schedule pretty much balanced out. I must have slipped back into some of my old habits because I was working all the time again.

So I stated looking at my daily method of operation (DMO). What habits was I performing every day and were these habits taking me closer or farther away from my goal?

Over the weekend my team put together a schedule. We decided how many hours and how many nights we were going to work on our business and then scheduled every activity.

It was shocking! I'm not sure what we were spending our time on before but we were blown away by how much time we had left over.

With a schedule, it's been easier to focus and we don't feel guilty not doing something or overwhelmed with "too many things to learn or do."

It made me realize that busy people have to be ruthless with their time management. If you put the blinders on during work hours and have a plan, you'll be more relaxed, have more fun and get better results.

What do you think? Do you have a DMO that's getting you where you want to go?

Thanks for your comments,

Ginger Hogue

Hi Ginger,

Great Post. This has been my problem. Tend to work all the time and not take time off. I feel fustration set in sometimes when I don't take a break. Last month I took three days off and did not want to look at my computer and make calls. Amazing that my sales went up on my website. Thanks for confirming what I need to do.

Hey thanks for your comment. It's easy to let that happen when you are enjoying your work, but....3 days off in a month will make you a very grouchy guy I know, I've been there. Gotta have some fun to be of value to anyone.

All the best to you and your new schedule.

It is so important to take a break once in a while. This is so critical.

Hi Ginger,

Couldn't agree more. You need to have a schedule. Plus you need to focus on action that gets the job done rather than just being "busy."

Helps a lot to "eat the frog," as the saying goes - do the difficult and unattractive things first thing in the morning. Then the day lightens up after that!

All the best,

Julian

What a VALUABLE post Ginger! For the "Home Business Entrepreneur" it is critical to have a DMO or Agenda and to stick to it..With so many distractions like Emails, Facebook, Youtube, etc etc we must treat our most valuable resource (time) with respect.

This has been a VERY big challenge for me...Thankfully I have developed the mindset and the habits required for the task of staying on track.

By the way, I take Wednesdays afternoons OFF. It's very refreshing and makes you realize how important is to treat yourself the right way.

Cesar

My DMO is on an excel spreadsheet! I have a list of things I am to do every day, every week. Say I write an article, I link the article next to the keyword from my list of keywords which I have come up with for the month. It really helps keep me on track!
