What type of leads are they? Were they termed business opportunity leads or were they email leads?
Email leads will generally have information showing they have opted-in to getting the information. Of course, just because they opted in to one thing doesn't mean they won't accuse you of spam. But often times just general business opportunity leads will have that info as well.
By way of info, an email sent out via autoresponder would be considered spamming as well if they have not opted in to receive email from you. That's why those you generally can't import leads.
My preferred method is to call them on the phone. I can guide you a little bit more on what to say by way of introduction if you can tell us what type of leads they are.
Leisa

Try sending personalised emails, you will get a better response

My friend's insurance company used to buy leads and they were terrible.... until they realized that they were 1)old 2)oversold and 3)old & oversold!!!! LOL!!! No really, once you realize that they are not all solid, legit leads, you will be able to work them better. Heck, lots came from those FREE LAPTOP **with partiipation promotions that we all sometimes go thru until we realize that they want our firstborn and a monthly payment of $39.95 until the year 2097.

Put those free leads to use. They are great "practice" or "cut your teeth" leads. As long as your expectations aren't too high, they can be used to allow you to practice your presentation. You'll then be prepared when you generate your own quality leads.

I put my leads through a long autoresponder email campaign that keeps in touch with them over a year. I also send out promotional mails once a week to my list. I use a paid autoresponder service. It is worth the money for great service. When i do import leads, they are required to opt in again so it is not spamming.

Buying leads is a great way to when you are first getting started to help you get comfortable to talking to people on the phone.. however its not the best way at all to make money in any business.. unless you have a call center calling very cheap leads 10 cents and under and selling a product only. If you are serious about building a strong business it would be good for you to start either learning how to Market your self online or work your warm market. Ryan Dunn has a good blog that talks about calling leads at http://www.whoisryandunn.com.

There are a couple of decent leads vendors out there. Apache Leads, Brilliant Exchange (Tim Sales organization), Affiliate Pros have all produced fairly well for me. I'm getting more traffic now from viral marketing, attraction marketing, etc. Also, our group is advertising in some very high quality home business magazines. The leads who call in for info are very good. The key here is, use purchased leads until you can produce your own, get people calling you rather than you calling them.

This seems to be the advice I have received and am following myself... I am lucky to have one of my best friend's as a business partner now, and her experience has been - free or cheap leads are NOT very good. On the other hand, they are a GREAT learning experience. If you just started like I did, I am very nervous when i call, and I just KNOW people can hear that. So why not take free and cheap leads and get some valuable practice from them. Especially since these people are probably NOT happy to hear from you and dealing with angry or beligerant people is hard! You get better and smoother the more you do it!
My goal is to work on the opportunities I have to generate my OWN hopefully quality leads, starting with cheap or free advertising, then when I am generating more income look into investing back into more advertising methods. i plan on grabbing some cheap leads this week and just start practising! That's the only way to learn.
My friend also told me - if they are cheap, they are OLD and DEAD, which was also mentioned in another post, so really not worth anything OTHER than practice!

Another thing you can consider is co-ops. Our whole team pools our resources and purchases ads in very targeted magazines, such as HBC, True Wealth, Entreprenur. We get VERY serious responses to those ads. I have put at least 10 in my downline in the past month and a half from these resposes. It's always better when people are calling you, and not the other way around.
I use a service called WT Powers. [Link removed - Admin] Yes, that is my affiliate link, but that is not why i put it here. I do get a small commission when someone signs up via my link, but again, not why i put it here. It's a pretty decent service, and doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I just thought some of you might want to look.
It has lots of tools you can use to market your websites, everything from a splash page like my The Onlilne Home Business Answer in my Sig File, to landing pages, search engine tools, even leads. They have an inexpensive 800 voicemail service, tracking tools, and lots of other good tools.
Another method is to contribute in forums and blogs, and write articles and get them published. These methods can truly enhance any seo you are doing. That's another thing, take the time to learn about seo, do some research and develop a good landing page of your own.
Just some ideas for you to consider

I have finally found a program that works. I have been doing all video marketing BUT now that i know it works and is bringing me an income, I want to switch to another form of marketing using leads. Anyone have any suggestions of a good source?
