Hello Everyone,
Like some of you I have tried several different Multi Level Marketing ventures but I am yet to make any headway. In fact, I started off in the mid 1990s with Amway, made nothing then gave up on the whole thing. In the early 2000s, I got bold again and decided to give it a try after a friend dragged me across Los Angeles to a fancy hotel in Beverly Hills for another pumped up rally. Now, once again I signed up for it, worked it a while and made very little money and then gave up again.

Then a couple of years ago (later part of 2008 to be precise), I got introduced into Monavie and some Alkaline water company. Again, this time I was told that I did not do it right previously or something to that effect and that I had to commit my body and soul to it for me to be successful. In fact, I had this coach/mentor who even took me to a mind cleansing workshop so that I could be free of what he called “ bad luck energy” Well, needless to say, I guess the whole cleansing session did not work that well as I barely made much money from both MLM ventures.

Finally, I ran into an old friend of mind that has made a fortune from MLM stuff and was telling him all my tales of woes in the MLM business and after he had fun laughing at my experience, he said something that made me think that he might be right..

What he said got me once again excited at the money making opportunity from MLM businesses. However, this time around I am still kind of skeptical and want to get others input first.

Essentially, what he said was that “Timing is everything in Multi-Level Marketing” He said that the reason that I was having such a hard time gaining any traction was because I was joining all this MLMs after the boat had already sailed. That is, there where just too many people ahead of me in the chain so I had to work 100 times harder to ever make any headway. I was simply feeding those ahead of me in my upline. The secret was to join an MLM that was just about to start off or buy into an upline position in one that was already matured.

Now, like I said previously, I have had a difficult time before. However, I don’t want to give up yet as I have seen some folks like my friend become millionaires from MLM. But I would like to get other peoples perspective on this. Please let me know what you think.

ANYONE can make money with ANY business no matter when they join. But of course if you have something amazing and ground floor that is truly unique and you are one of the first to join and you have the top rankings on page 1 of google and youtube and all that you will for sure get lay down sales all over the place. In my business I have a call center call leads for me. They then three way them to me. I introduce myself as a leader and they think I am a big shot because I have a call center working FOR ME. They then google me and see my on the top pages of specific big keywords for my business. It is the perfect combination and many join me left and right. So yes there is an advantage to those who know what they are doing to get in first, otherwise if you dont know what you are doing it does not matter.

Timing certainly can have its merits, but these long standing companies have not continued to survive because of timing.

Now timing in some of these companies with their compensation plans is essential because you will likely, or fewer and fewer will likely get to the "millionaire" status, if even a 5 figure monthly earner.

I think if you do a study of the "simple approach" to residual income success with the comp plan of a company, you will be better able to see where success has a greater probability over others.

The more team members/product sells it takes to break even and then go into profit monthly, typically the further away the probability for success for the average and ordinary person. And top team builders will always have mostly average and ordinary people on their team.
see: How To Determine A Good/Great Monthly Residual Income Home Business

Therefore, a compensation plan has to be judged by the probability for the average and ordinary person to succeed, not the guru, go getter. (note this does not mean that all will succeed)

The sad part is most people just don't really focus on the compensation plan and they go through your ordeal, but you are not alone, but your desire to not give up can lead you to win.

That makes no sense at all :P.

BECAUSE in any MLM you join there will always be people above you that you are "feeding" and you don't have to work 100 times harder than them.

They had people above them and nobody below them when they joined too..

Maybe now they don't have to work as hard.. but they put the time and effort in.

There are advantages to getting in early.. Mainly not everyone knows the company and already has predetermined thoughts about it (Amway *cough*).

Of course there are ways to market to avoid certain pitfalls like that but it's still essentially the same. You will always have an upline.. It will always be your job to grow your downline.

It is not harder for you than it was for them because of timing (very very uncommon.. Amway *cough*)

Matt

Matt is right, people in your upline will work as much as you. And I understand where you are coming from. When systems or programs start, it starts with a bang, then slows down. Its like that with almost every program or company. Sometimes you have to be there in the right time.

But, I believe its all about mindset and knowledge. Because we know you have the heart and will. Keep doing a good job, best success to you.

I agree with Matt. It may have to do with timing but not timing of getting into the company. The timing would have to do with "you". Is the timing "right for you".

It my company, it is up to me. We have a "Get 2 it" program where it is laid out how to get to 500-2000 in three months with the "Share and Earn" program just by following an easy system. And it works. If you came in tomorrow, you could pass me up and make more money than me, it wouldn't matter if I was your up line. It matters how much you do and how much passion you have for the product. This company is customer based, not distributor based. The product works and thus the customers stay.

Interesting,

We have all heard that timing is everything, and I agree, but before the debate begines, define timing, your individual timing, product or service, or company, each has a different meaning as I have learned.

I wanted to start my first business in good times, when job security was sound, careers were in voque, not too many entrepreneurs were willing to junk the corporate world for the unkonwn high risk of starting your own business.

I was trapped by this for far more years than I want to think about, but I finally quit to start my own business and never looked back. I should have went with my instincts years sooner, so timing is different for everyone given the individual circumstances.

If the economy was like it is now, a different mindset would exist for most, so in this case, timing is everything, it sure was for me, I could have done much better if I had started my first business sooner, rather than later, so again, timing is everything.

I could point out a dozen reasons why timing is everything, just look at products or services which can be either ahead of their time, or way past prime. As example, who would want to start selling or promoting fax machines at this point in time? The same can be said for film cameras, photo offset printing equipment, and on and on the list goes, again, timing is everything.

In reference to MLM industry, sure, getting into Amway at beginning is better time than now, yet technically you could still do well, you will never do as well as those who were first. First is always better than last in everything in life, so although a real opportunity may exist today, it will rarely be as good as it was when first launched.

The same can be said for every opportunity I have researched, and I research them all, first is best, but no risk, no rewards is not for everyone, so a newbie may be better off going with a well established company instead of a start up. I look for value oriented businesses, no to low cost, and the reasons are obvious, timing, we are in a deep recession and most people are in tough economic straits, or worse, unemployed, so this too is all tied to timing.

Free and easy is what most people are looking for these days, and this was not always true, just look at all the people who would throw money into anything trying to break out of the corporate job squeeze most are trapped in. Again, timing impacts everyone's decisions. As with any opportunity, you have to be dedicated to reach your goals, and never quit, and in tough times, most are more inclined to quit before they ever succeed, sad, but true, again, timing, if they were to stick to it just a little longer, they may have realized success, so timing once again is everything, no when to hold them, no when to fold them, also timing, everything is tied to timing whether you thought so or not.

Success to all,

Here's a funny, but sad, story on timing.

I guy called me up about a month ago, and he had been recently laid off. He says to me after reviewing the opportunities I offer:

"Well I did some research and it looks like if I had gotten into network marketing/mlm a long time ago I could have a chance, but timing isn't good now." (paraphrasing)

I'm still lol at the lack of wisdom in the statement, and crying at how people think internet research where people can say what they want very often without recourse, or with very crafty "word art" constitute a universal truth of what is and is, especially with something as established as network marketing.

MLM is booming, more than ever before. And it is actually easier to succeed than ever before, because of the internet and national and world wide marketing. Problem is people are not patient and consistent and willing to buckle down and learn how to market.

Once you find a lucrative opportunity, as home business is about making money, not being a sales person needing great sales skills if any, then it simple comes down to learning effective marketing.

Free online marketing is more time consuming compared to paid marketing which can bring instant activity/leads, but both take consistency, but there's no doubt that mlm is where it's at and will continue to be.

There is one clear reason over any opportunity I've found, other than trading in the markets, that makes mlm the #1 home business to be involved in. LEVERAGE!!! LEVERAGE several layers deep!

Hey there.
I would agree with all of you, especially Freecashman last post.

Also I would say: If you choose to involve in MLM which is selling some product for daily and generaly use, I think you could be succesfull no matter what timing it is.
For example, I saw some MLM based on selling almost everything, food, coffe, clothes, but that is good only for local promoting. Also, almost everybody will need domain name, hosting plan,...if he has some product or firm. Like Freecashman said, internet is exploding.
Just for example: I've read that Facebook in 2010 got 250 milions new users, thats almost 50% of all users in just 1 year.
Crazy isn't it?

I have known many people who do well with different MLM companies. The MOST important thing to remember with being successful in MLM is that you are not selling a product, your are going into a business of training people. The more people who can recruit and train, the sooner you will be make the big $$$

Interesting,

So what comes first, the chicken or the egg? You say training, I say the product, for without the prospect being sold on product and opportunity, then why would training be relevent? You can train till the cows come home, but if the prospect was not sold on the product and opportunity, why would they want to be trained? Guess I am missing something. If you train everyone to be trainers, who is going to make the sales?

Success to all,
