The key to building a large downline is internet marketing, old ways of working mlm are not as effective. Using attraction marketing online you will be able to build a huge downline and make a lot of money much faster than ever before.

This is a great forum, glad I joined up, having read a number of interesting and informative posts that have increased my MLM knowledge substantially.
I agree that continual contact and support to your downline is the key to their and your success. Pick up the phone for a friendly chat or encourage them when its needed. When they win we all win!
1.Have a clear goals
2.Know your target market
3.Like what you are selling
4.Know why you doing this
5.Have a clear internet marketing plan with monthly , six monthly and yearly goals.

agoodsaid hello everyone! yes Andrea, I agree with you. I have been into MLM, mostly bad experience with the upline you dont even see the face, calling, e-mailing then and get no replies..yes after getting your business they're gone! But now, i finally found one that i really trust. An upline who cares with her team, constant communication, motivation and support to start..she is always there anytime you call. So, I believe that in joining an MLM, it is better to go with a person that focus, working on a "team",one that cares about her team specially those starters..

I have to disagree,
The internet is only a way to connect with people. yes, I use it to build .
But, assuming the key to building a large downline is internet marketing and old ways of working mlm are not as effective not true.
I know quite a few successful MLMer's that are still building large downline the old way.
I would do both.

Being a newbie to the network marketing, MLM, direct selling world, I had to do my fair share of research. Not only in finding a good company to start with, but also research on how to minimize failure and maximize success. I have to agree 101% that to maximize chance of success you should first focus on a niche that you are interested in. The more you know and strive to learn with a product or area, the better your chances of being able to pass that information along. With that, I also wanted to focus on a market that was continuing to grow depsite the fluctuating state of our economy. I learned to be wary of uplines who work part-time as a magicians i.e. they are good at performing disappearing acts once you sign up with them. Well, I got 3 out of the 4 right, just chose the wrong upline. But no worries, I contacted the support team and they connected me with a better upline than I could have chosen for myself. In the end I ended up choosing a company that provides cell phones at discount prices, coming from the wireless background. With the prepaid system that they have in place and my knowledge of the wireless sector moving toward prepaid in the next 5 years, it was a no brainer. Add to that, they have an easy system in place to help guide you to success. And the best part is that I get my monthly cell phone bill paid for and my business system paid for as well. What was I doing working the 9 to 5? But I love the tips and information, keep it coming.

The key to building a profitable, sustainable MLM business is having lots of people do a few simple things on a consistent daily basis."
This formula is Network Marketing at it's BEST ! The internet while a valuable tool, will NEVER able to surpass the so called "outdated methods" to create a SUSTAINABLE business.
As far as generating leads yeah, but I think you'll get a better quality of prospect using truly proven methods that has always worked since the start of this industry.

I found that most MLMs do not have a support team. Once you join, you are pretty much left on your own. And you have to decifer the secret in the few webinars they hold each week.
First, there is no secret. Just work harder in the beginning to build a respectable presence and you will do fine.
Second, you must be a self starter and motivator if you are going to be a success in any business.
Third, find a mentor that is not connected with the MLM you are in. You need someone who has made it and who is not bias in helping you move forward.
Just been my experiences. I had to make it on my own. Now that I am financially free, I have alot of people willing to "help" me. Funny when I needed the help they were not there huh? lol

coreyjroman Downline need a motivated, caring and concerned upline to help them along the way. I find that most upline although caring, are so busy spinning out their things to sell that they make it hard for downline to truly understand what to do in order to succeed. It becomes exceedingly hard for a newbie to keep up with all that mail that says, "do this", "join this", "buy this". In fact it becomes quite overwhelming sometimes.
I'm trying to do it differently with my downline - by giving them bite-sized thoughts on how best to build their business. Rather than give them a whole heap of ideas as to what to do, I am giving them just one or two ways - that I have found the easiest to do myself - so that they can comfortably move on in building their businesses. I'm trying to do the hard yakka myself so that they don't have to waste the time I have had to do in order to learn the business.

I really think this practice of making additional income off people in your downline is absolutely unprofessional and anyone that does this has no ethics.

I totally agree with you Mike - but, then again I suppose that's how they have built their businesses as they have.
I am trying to do it the other way for my downline, by showing them the easy way - without throwing things at them from all sides. But, time alone will tell if that is the right way either, or not.
I don't hold it against my upline for guiding me in that way - they are doing their best as the know it to be. In fact, I am truly thankful that they helped keep my motivation levels high when I really needed it.
I think we all need to think for ourselves and just take what we think works for us and sift through the rest, keeping what we can use later - for a later date and discarding the rest.

Just jumped in on this forum...
And wanted to make a quick observation from Clark Kent's post up the page a way, where he posts this:
"1.Have a clear goals
2.Know your target market
3.Like what you are selling
4.Know why you doing this
5.Have a clear internet marketing plan with monthly , six monthly and yearly goals."
Does anyone see what's missing in those instructions?
It would be easy to say, "Well ... duhhh.... we already KNEW that."
But, did we?
Here it is, and it is the FOUNDATION for SUCCESS. Without it, you're not going to have a prayer of sustained success.
A VALUE DRIVEN PRODUCT EXPERIENCE OF YOUR OWN.
Think about it.
What "deal" or "business" or "thing" or company have any of you ever joined, where you STAYED IN ... if you didn't own, use and fall in LOVE with the product?
I know it's being "picky" since he says "like what you're sellling" but there are worlds of difference between "liking" something versus having a powerful, personal product experience.
One gives you the notion you can do this. The other gives you an almost LIMITLESS capacity for sharing a product because of what YOU PERSONALLY have experienced, that no one can take away from you because it's YOUR experience.
It is just the start of what it takes to be a success but without it, you have zero chance at all.
THEN ... all the other stuff can come into play.
But it speaks volumes when it's left out.
Never forget ... we SPEAK our reality into existence by the very choice of words we use.
Have a fantastic weekend everyone.

I have found all these posts to be of great help, Ive found with no downline your not going far and you more or less depend on your upline to motivate you in the right direction. one thing for sure you never seem to stop learning even when your helping others achieve their goals.

Hey emailman1,
You are ablsolutely right. No downline ... no income worth writing home about.
And it's the very issues brought out in this forum that highlight that you can't necessarily depend on upline. But the reason why is not necessarily a "fault" of anyone.
If you're new .... you need to be able to sponsor people too, right?
And if you do sponsor someone .. YOU are the upline now, right?
So, what do YOU bring to the table as far as experience, leadership and knowledge for your new recruit?
Assuming you're not a seasoned professional who has just taken on a new company, your "help" for the new person is going to be limited, which is natural.
And then, THEY need to be able to sponsor people too, don't they?
So now, 2 "generation" of you are new and inexperienced.
You can see where this goes.
Now, if there was a way to get the experienced help REGARDLESS of how new you may be, for your new people and you as well, and someone that will call your prospects, train and coach them and even sign them up ... it's the new wave of MLM.
Because ... no downline = no paychecks.
Have a super week!

There are some really great tips here. I agree that a company with products that YOU like are key. Then the word of mouth promotion just comes naturally because YOU love the products. I'm an Arbonne consultant and I knew this was right for me when I realized that even if there was no business opportunity, I would use the products.
