Vishal P. Rao: I was in Amway for some time and one thing I liked most about them is how they periodically motivate their distributors in the form of seminars, tapes, meetings, magazines. How was your experience with Amway?

I think the best advice given here is to love your product and become a product of the product. I think the most literal application of this is with health-based network marketing companies, where you can use your own products to become a stronger, faster, smarter person. That is what has happened with me, and it is what drives success. That's the truth!

I now that the key to succsessfull business is that first you need to change your own additude, and you always need to be in the good state of mind thats always important that you feel good. When you fell good you always attract good thing in your life so thats the most important chapter in your business succsess remember you can have,do or be anything you want

Not necessarily health related.. It could be anything... Just believe what you are saying about it, before you do....

A good attitude will not ensure that you succeed in MLMs, but a bad attitude will guarantee failure.
Most MLM products are usable, but not brand name. They are not high quality either.

However I agree that there is a good probability that your MLM provides Brand Names AND High quality.
Don't forget there are MLMs priced upto $11,000 !!!!

From my experience the products are usually either average, or lower quality. And the average ones are usually priced just a tad too high, even if they were HIGH quality the price would still not be competitive.
I was in an MLM that had one product. It sold a special telephone. The phone was 3 times the cost of my previous phone, and the monthly service was about twice as much. The phone couldn't dial half the numbers I dialed so I had to stop using it completely. That's just one example of how MLM products are overpriced and low quality.
The best case scenario you can hope for is that the product is comparable to its competitors--quality and price-wise. But at that point you gain nothing by going through the MLM to get it. It's just the same as if you went to the store to buy it. So then you have to ask yourself why even bother with the MLM if you can get the same thing elsewhere for the same price? The MLM then just becomes an extra nuissance and unnecessary middleman in the purchase of the product.

needs2stop You are missing something very crucial here :
50% of the price overheads of any product is actually, Distribution and Marketing
MLMs just substitute these 50% with our REBATES and Incentives.
This is why you can get the same quality AND incentives in your MLM.
We are NOT unnecessary Middlemen, WE ARE A REPLACEMENT to Middlemen, brokers, distributors, resellers, marketers, Ads, E-marketing.

It all depends on the product in question. My MLM basically just re-sold other providers cellphone services. You could go to Sprint directly and pay the same price. Or go through me and pay the same price and get the same product. But I'm still an extra middleman in that transaction. Based on my experience, any discounts created by removing traditional retailers and marketers is offset by all the extra commissions that have to be paid out to your upline. I also find it odd that you say you REPLACE the middleman, when in fact you are in an organization of nothing but middlemen.

Vendor --> Distributor ---> Reseller ---> Retailer
Here, you see 3 Tiers of distribution. Replacing all these 3 with just ONE OF US and an E-commerce website is something really worth noting!!! So yes, practically we are, but we are not forming these so many peers in the hierarchical model of distribution for the company.
IN PARALLEL to all the above,
There are marketing overheads with EACH of these tiers. WE ARE Doing these efforts OURSELVES. So the more Marketing WE DO, the more success we will get. The company won't do you that. It might present you with some great brochures, but nothing more.
Think of your role as officially doing both roles for the company, don't you deserve that credit called LARGE incentive?

I don't know what you mean by large incentive. No MLM I have ever heard of has given their reps a large incentive just for selling their products. You don't get any breaks being in an MLM. In fact, you usually have to work harder and pay more when all is said and done. It sounds like you believe that your MLM cuts out some of the middlemen, and eventhough YOU are replacing those middlemen with yourself, you still seem to think this "frees up" additional profit margins that then go toward increased commissions for yourself. But I highly question that is the case.

needs2stop Man, This is MLM. This is what all MLM companies actually IF they wont scam their IRs. I believe you had a very bad experience dealing with a bad MLM company. Take a break, give yourself a chance to know that some are Legit too.
This happened to me.. and damn i really needed the money when I was scammed.. and it took my upline in this new MLM , an age to even convince me just to listen to what they are saying..
And it just happened. There is google, there are 3rd party reviews. Sponsorships for the MLM companies, all these are just proofs.. and YES, review it YOUR own.. It might be the best but NOT good for you...
Mine is a great one for me.. I knew I could market it greatly and I am successful. Its a high investment one, I got 50% of my investment in 6 weeks. Still working on the rest.
Face your fears. You are right to be afraid, just dont let this fear ruin great opportunities for you.
Again, I see an MLMer inside you. Do yourself a favor and keep that spirit there

It's all about finding the right network marketing company, and finding one with products that really resonate with you. As long as it has a stellar product, the compensation plan will probably be decent. DO NOT base your decision AT ALL on a compensation plan, only on the products.
I guarantee you if a company has good products, they have the mind to have a fair plan, at least that's what I've seen. I joined my company and didn't look at the plan for two months, but when I did, I saw that it was indeed quite good.

Good points here with regards to having a quality product ... critical since the product is what actually fuels the comp plan.
However ...
The thread references "how to build a successful downline" and at the end of the day there is really only one "key":
Get a large group of people, to take a few simple daily actions, over an extended period of time.
What are those actions? The primary one is consistent daily exposure - ideally somewhere between 2 and 10 - to your product and/or opportunity.
If you can, as a leader, build an organization that buys into that philosophy, you will succeed ... period.

You're right Scott, it's about people seeing your product and learning about it, and a certain percentage will make the decision to go with it. It's just statistics, but you can put the statistics in your favor by using conversion techniques and helping your people develop.

coreyjroman I agree with your comments. The MLM must be all about the Product/Service it has to offer. The Opportunity is second. Not everyone wants to be in the business, but if the Product or Service is good then you can create real value to the consumer and really grow your business. After all, you only get paid when customers are acquired and not for signing up representatives, at least in a legit MLM business that is how it is. Also, training and support is key to building an organization. Never sign up a rep if you are not going to spend the time training them and walking them through the customer acquisition process as well as how to grow their business to create leverage.
