Greetings,
The most important thing in Network Marketing is to like and use the product and service that you have signed up for. Too many people are sold or convinced, and join for all the wrong reasons and therefore are gone in 60-90 days. Become a product of the product or service and pass that on to downline. Carindal rule #1.
Good Luck,
Marc LaClair

The thing I believe overrides everything when it comes to building a solid MLM biz is to work on yourself. Ultimately, people want to know that if they get involved, the person who is training and helping them has the skillset to succeed and can TEACH them that skillset. I always tell new people that the best thing to work on immediately is their personal growth and development so they can build better and better leadership skills. Of course, we all must work on the technical stuff...show the plan, online tools and systems, etc. But, if we haven't working on ourselves so that people see our strength and leadership, then why would they join us vs the other person who seems to have a better ability to lead them?

Greetings,
The key to building good and strong downlines really comes down to one simple and underused thing.
"Leaders care first and build their bank accounts later". People will follow and stay with genuine leaders.
To Your Marketing,

I agree that in order to be successful in any MLM is to believe in what you are doing, however, I believe the most important aspect of building a successful MLM is to have a compensation plan that the average person can achieve. For example, if I am involved with a company that requires me to recruit hundreds of people to make a little bit of money, I am going to get frustrated and give up.
I know some people that are involved with business's that have many people as customers or business partner's BUT they are not making any real monthly residual income. I think this is sad, because people put a lot of energy and effort into building their business and after some time, they are not seeing any real income.
It is definatley important to be confident in what you are doing, as others will see that in you.

KarenSmith67: I know some people that are involved with business's that have many people as customers or business partner's BUT they are not making any real monthly residual income. agreed! The whole point should be to have a real opportunity to build a real residual income stream. When we do that, we're freed up from the predatory money system we are all forced into to survive and can invest our time in helping others with their needs...rather than focus everything on that survival mode so many folks are in

I know this conversation has been going for a while but it is really interesting.
I have a pressing question and one that has brought me back to the forums after many years of absense.
My question is how do you get someone new up to speed when time is really an issue?
I don't know how to explain this better but I'm trying to find a way to support my downline but I am a little rusty myself with all the changes that have occurred in Marketing in just the last few years.
Stephen

Hi Stephen-
I would suggest you have them do what you do. Most people will follow your lead. If you are that rusty, then spend some time getting up-to-date on the latest marketing techniques.
If you have upline support, have them assist you as you are refreshing. The company you are with should provide you and your team with some training materials. Have you checked into that?
I am always honest with people, if I am not sure how to answer their questions, I contact my upline and allow them to help put. Afterall, we all want to be successful and helping each other is going to be beneficial to all of us.
Good luck!

There's actually a much easier way to go about things. Ever wondered how some people seem to repeatedly shoot to the top of any compensation plan in just a few short months or even weeks, no matter what company they join, while everyone else is stuck at the bottom, sometimes for years, wondering how in the world they do it? Well the answer is pretty simple actually and you will probably slap yourself for not having thought about it before.
So how do they do it? Well they pre-build. That's it? Yes that's it. Most industry top earners pre-build their teams of entrepreneurs long before joining a network marketing company. They form key relationships, alliances, mastermind groups, in which they evaluate various business opportunities as a group, then decide on which one(s) to join, once again as a group. This causes a very fast chain reaction, which propels those who have done a good job at pre-building to the tops of compensation plans very fast. See, most of us join MLM companies the regular way: we get invited to see/hear a business opportunity presentation by a friend or family member; we get excited over what we see; we pay our start-up fee then start running around looking for customers and business partners in an attempt to be in profits, or at least recoup our initial investment. The result? 97% fail and quit within the 1st year; or you'll see people join up to 10 different start-ups/ground level/"best thing since sliced bread (but we won't tell you what the product is)" companies in a one year span.

Net Work Marketing & MLM is a true way to make a legitimate income basically working from home. The problem is because the cost to get started is low compared to what a traditional business would cost, most people who join, treat it like a hobby. They spend 40 hours or more on a dead end job building someone else's dream, but won't take the time to build their own. Most have a mindset, that because they hear other people making thousands of dollars, if they don't reach that level in the 1st month or so, they quit. Anything they you really want to accomplish takes "WORK" and "TIME." If you get into an opportunity for a few hundred dollars and treat it like it's worth a few hundred dollars, that's how you'll get paid. Treat it like it's a Million Dollar opportunity and the income is unlimited if it's a good company.
You also have to attract the same type of people if you want your business to grow. You can't motivate the un-motivatable. You have to work with the ones that are already motivated and have a big enough WHY, for them to be successful.
When people quit an opportunity, they are not quitting on the company or you, they are quitting on themselves, because that's what they are used to doing. They don't have a NO QUIT attitude.

totally with you on motivation! And yes, I have been guilty of getting excited and giving up too easy. This is one of the subjects I blog about. I have found if your head isn't in the right place you'll never do the work. This also applies to your body too. Got feed and water it. If your going to live by your wits you better keep them in good condition. Good post Thanks - Jan Hickling

Thank you for your information. I'm rebounding off a bad advertising decision and trying to get my feet back on the ground and move forward. I have my plans in front of me but I'm still putting together a game plan to teach leaders. You can be a leader but it does not matter if you do not develop leadership. (I read that somewhere but if I use it enough, it's mine!)

I always tell my team to remember the 4Bs principle 1. Believe in yourself 2. Believe in the product you are marketing 3. Believe in the company 4. Believe in the company and her ability to deliver values
These help in putting you in shape and state to talk to other people about the opportunities that your MLM offers.

Keep in mind too that if there were no comp plan attached, do the products have a fair market value?

I think that the best way to support your downline is to get help from your upline!

Wow, this thread was starting in 05. Lot's of good info! I believe it's best if it's all there..... The 3 PPP's - Product - one(s) that you believe are fantastic and maybe even cutting edge or trendy, Pay Plan - one that is simple and doable for the average person to make some fast money and long term money and Prospects - people obviously that will be out looking for this opportunity or product(s).

The most successful way to build a massive downline is TO GET THEM PAID AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE!!
All the faith and belief in the world won't keep the average person active in Network Marketing unless they can see their team and their income expand.
It's so important to be able to show new team members exactly how to make the money they want in your business, be it supplemental or replacing a full time income.

Some great points. I work with a lot of Network Marketing stars and I think one of the most important things is not to find fault with the system, product or company and then jump from ship to ship. Instead look inside and see what your internal sabotage language is. Start from the inside out.

coreyjroman Hi Corey, I really liked your post, I have been thinking about buying some leads. I am very skeptical about these, Like where do they get them from? You said "Exclusive One Time Sales Leads Are these actual names that you buy or is this a system to generate your own? Anything that you could tell me about this would be helpfull. Please let me know Thanks

Interesting,
Having scanned through the answers in this thread out of curiosity, I found a lot of good advice. No doubt there are many good suggestions, and of course, loving your product is important so you can convey the same to others, but the difference in my experience is that those you market to also love the product.
Not everyone is the same, or has the same interest, and of course, not all products work for all people, so what I learned is you have to find that perfect mass appeal product everyone wants and will love, not as easy as it sounds. With so many variables, so many tastes, so many demographics, so many likes and dislikes, I researched what everyone wants these days, and that is to save money. Sounds like a logical answer for good reason, it is true, everyone wants to save money, even the wealthy, so this is a universal truth.
I have found that more people are in this category than in any other. As hot as diet and nutrition industry has been over the years in MLM, the minute you put an equal or better product in front of anyone at half the price, you just stole them as a customer. Money talks, we have all heard this phrase before, but never has it meant more than in a deep economic recession like we are all trying to survive through. It all comes down to saving money, you research a company who looks at the long term, isn't greedy and doesn't pump up prices to pay all the various levels in MLM comp. plans, then you have a chance at long term success, but it all starts and ends with saving people money.
All one has to do is look at the growth of online shopping to see that price matters. I was watching financial report the other day about retail stores who are losing the battle to online shopping, and this confirms what I have found, people don't care about anything other than the best prices, and he or she who presents the lowest price for same product wins. MLM has traditionally been overpriced on products across the spectrum, and that makes it near impossible for the average networker to succeed since most people are not salespersons. Who really likes to sell? Who really likes to be hard sold? No one, that's who, and that is why I choose verified value oriented MLM programs, again, far and few between, but there are a few.
Success to all,
