I don't know much about network marketing and I am having a problem getting people to meet with my upline. Any suggestions? I really need this to work, as I can't afford to work outside of the home because of childcare costs.

Good question,
In my experience, this was always the most difficult way to operate as most people don't have the time, and if they don't have the time, you have a major obstacle, so I bet that is the excuse you hear over and over, I don't have the time.
Trying to succeed in any business takes a lot of knowledge, so this is where you need to begin, learn your business so you don't have to use your upline as your crutch. You are the contact person in front of a prospect, so you are the one they need to hear from, not a stranger, so this is where you start, learn your product, your presentation and know all the answers which will give you the power to close the sale or recruit others to your business.
Also important, define your market, then target it. Most people don't have the free time, never mind time to do what they have to in every day life, so as with your reason to want to start your own business, target those who have to use childcare since you already know it is expensive, and going up every day, so I bet every singe Mother feels the same way, so there is your target market.
Good luck to all, Mike

First off, welcome to the forum!
While I don't know how your system is set up, it only takes a second to dial a phone number! Not having the time is nothing more than an excuse that people are giving you. If they see the importance, they will make the time.
While people do want to hear from you, you do not have to be the expert (yet) - that is what your upline is for. All I'm saying is, don't get caught up in spending all of your time learning everything about everything and not making any connections. If you are not talking to anyone, you are not making any money - are you?!? Don't take this the wrong way, education is very important, just make sure you keep a balance.
I am sending you a pm with a link to Dani Johnson. She is a great business trainer, I think she will help you a lot - and the info on her website is free!
I hope that helps!
Lora

First of all, Welcome maggielynne! From what I gather, you are having a hard time getting people 3-wayed to your upline, correct? Are you making a good connection with them when you speak with them initially? you need to build a relationship with people and truly care about them and their needs and goals - and what they are looking for.
I agree with Lora - go to dani johnson dot com and plug into her free training. She will help you sail thru that learning curve in your business...

Welcome to the forum, MaggieLynne.
I agree that Dani Johnson provides excellent training. I also like Tim Sales' "Professional Inviter."
Does your company provide training on how to talk about a 3-way call with your sponsor or other upline? How you phrase it when you speak with a prospect is important.
For example, you don't want to say something like, "I want you to talk with my sponsor because she knows a lot more about the business than I do." You lower yourself in the prospect's eyes and might leave them thinking, "Gosh, I should sign up with her sponsor."
One approach I like is to say something like (I'll pretend I'm speaking with a prospect named "Joan"):
"Listen Joan, one thing I want you to know about our company is that we always have your back. You don't have to do this alone. For example, if you join our business, one of the things you can always do is initiate a 3-way call with another distributor to give your prospect two perspectives on the business and increase the odds that all your prospect's questions are answered as quickly as possible--since no one has the answer to everything! In fact, let's do it right now so you can experience live one of the ways you'll always have back up. I'm going to see if one of my team members is available and 3-way them into this call, okay?"
Of course, say it in your own words so it comes across naturally. Also practice talking with prospects with other distributors and your sponsor.
I wish you massive success!
Mark

Hi Maggielynne,
Working from home may be the perfect solution to your needs as long as you realise a couple of basic fundamental aspects of Network Marketing.
A great deal of people get into this type of thing to get into the big money fast - This is a big mistake as like anything in life you need to work at it.
There are many vital ingredients to success in MLM, but two of the most important are:
#1 - If you wanted to be a doctor, you wouldn't buy a distributor pack and instantly start pulling in the big $$$'s - you would have to work at it and become a professional in your field. You become good at what you do, then the $$$'s follow.
Start reading everything about MLM you can get hold of and start sifting through the material to find what will help you the most.
You need to become a professional in your chosen field - Everyone you deal with will respect this and look to you for guidance.
#2 - Without doubt, the most important aspect to success with any MLM is genuinely caring about people and helping them to realise their own potential and achieve their targets and dreams.
Mentoring them to do this will also get them doing the same for those they introduce - and this is a formula for success.
Like you, I was at a loss to get support from my immediate upline. This was no direct fault of theirs, it was simply that they had not been taught the basic fundaments of perpetuating a caring mentoring system for their downline.
The problem with this is that they will teach others their way of doing things, and eventually they get so far off track with the support thing that you become lost. Eventually the leg you are in will die out and heaps of people would have missed out on their opportunity to grasp their future and be in control of their destiny.
Do not despair... you could be the cause of your leg jumping into greatness and success.... You just need to find a process for you to get you going.
Product knowledge - It is up to you to find out as much as possible so you become the knowledgable one here.
How to market yourself - There is tons of methods freely available by simply running searches in Google or Youtube. Be careful though - do not fall prey to someone offering you the world for nothing - there is usually a catch somewhere.
Read - Read - Read - Read - This is what I did and now I have rekindled my leg - You can do the same - You have to want to succeed and know that you can with the right information.
I have no doubt you are going to really enjoy this if you start doing it right.
Good luck

I too am not sure of the process you are using, but if you need to get prospects on a 3way with your upline, have you considered asking your upline to make the calls with you? It is much easier that way than to make the call and then get someone to commit to a second one with someone else. This method reminds me of another company I was with and as someone already said, having to get them on an additional call makes it seem that you do not have the answers yourself.
I also agree that Dani Johnson is a good trainer for those who want to learn closing techniques.
I believe you said you just got started. Talk to your up line and let them know what your struggles are. If you have a good solid upline mentor, they will be willing to help you. Your success is their success also... so don't be afraid to say you are having problems. Most times we don't know unless you say something.

Targeting your market and knowing how to drive traffic to a capture page is critical in succeeding in online marketing. There are so many ways you can run your business, you don't have to do it just one way. Explore different options, but concentrate on getting your target audience in front of your site/products.

Hello maggielynne,
I understand your situation. I've been there and done that. It is very frustrating to have difficulties with prospects meeting with your upline.
I hate to say it, but the dirty truth about what you are going through is you have not found the right prospects yet or at least ones not motivated enough to make a change in their lives.
The only answer to this is to stay the course and continue to look for the right prospects.
Chances are, that person that you have cornered and tried to convince them of your business opportunity is not going to stay with the company for long anyway.
History has proven that the person who is motivated enough and realizes a golden opportunity will take action immediately.
Ultimately, you want to dominate your MLM business and have propects proactively seeking out how to join your business.
If you would like some guidance, send me a PM
Just remember, success in your business will not wait for you. You have to know its there and get after it and never ever look back.
- Kevin Tyler Smith

You really need to have a fully automated system. But most importantly, a mentor that is easy to reach and willing to help you every step of the way. If not, GET OUT! I spent a long time looking for a great network marketing opportunity and finally found a mentor that has really helped. That's the key.

Very true if you are looking at the world through the internet, but if you prospect locally it is always best to have a personal approach.
I use a combination of both well and really work the mentoring aspect. If you do not do this, how can you expect your downline to start mentoring as you do, and for the momentum to kick in?
This is a great industry and an excellent personal development arena.

You need to analise your approach I think. We can't advise as we do not know what you do, but there are always many ways to say the same thing with a different effect. This is where a good mentor or upline comes in.

Hello maggielynne,
In the network marketing and MLM industry, distributors are often told that they need to find 2 types of people to put into their business: Product Users (consumers), or business builders (people that are trying to make money with the business). Often, it is presented as a mutually exclusive option, meaning that a person is either a business builder OR a product user. When operating and attempting to grow a downline, networkers and MLM'ers are usually encouraged to focus their efforts on acquiring business builders if they are trying to grow a business. In theory, it only makes sense. If you want a business, and specifically if you want leaders, then find business builders. If you just want to help people enjoy the product, find product users. Right?
Wrong.
This line of logic makes sense on paper, but I'm sure we can all recall certain theories that made tons of sense on paper, but didn't work in reality.
Network marketing, or multi-level marketing, is not an industry. It is a compensation model. Instead of being paid on the front end for consumption (like a traditional retail-compensation model), you are paid on the back end for consumption. The important thing to keep in mind is that without consumption, NOBODY GETS PAID. You can have 10,000 people in your downline, but if nobody is using the product, then nobody gets paid. Consumption of product is what allows MLM companies to cut distributor checks. Nobody gets paid on simply recruiting and sponsoring.
Why is this important?
Well, if you're trying to build a business and generate revenue with network marketing as vehicle to that end, then it's absolutely imperative to your business that you have a distribution channel that focuses on consumption.
So here's the big question: How do you do that? How do you build a distribution channel from scratch that emphasizes consumption?
Like this: You lead with your product or service.
I'll say it again: Lead with your product or service.
Instead of focusing all your efforts on going out there and trying to find other people to blow up your downline for you, focus your efforts on finding those consumers that are already demonstrating a need, want, or desire for your particular product or service. Then, you simply position yourself in their pathway of consumption. By presenting them with a product solution, and then showing them the "opportunity" as a means of subsidizing their usage of that product (get the product for free) or even as a way to make some money over and above that, you can then build a downline with a solid foundation of consumption. But that's not the best part.
The best part is that by leading with the product or service, you will dramatically increase your retention rates.
You see, when you lead with the product or service, you will be building a solid foundation of consumers. In addition to that, you will also have business builders that are taking advantage of the business opportunity to get the product for free, or because they recognize the value of the product they are receiving, and want to get that same product in the hands of other consumers who are looking for similar solutions. By leading with opportunity, you build a downline based on greed. You have a bunch of people in you downline that are there to make a million bucks. So when 3 months pass by, and they are still not making a million bucks (this is residual income, remember?), they quit using the product. The only reason they ever used the product in the first place was to make a lot of money, so when they're not making a ton of money, they quit.
But when you lead with the product, you are solving a consumers problem. So if they do decide to take advantage of the business opportunity, they'll stick with it because even though they're not making a million bucks in 3 months, they believe in the product, the values and the benefits that the product brought into their life, and therefore continue to consume the product. That's why they got started in the first place; it was based on the need of the consumer for the values and benefits that your product or service offered. Because the opportunity was not stressed and presented as the sole reason for consumption of product, then the consumption of product will continue even though the distributor is experiencing the usual bumps and bruises that go along with the creation of any business.
For most people, greed is not motivating enough to keep a person going when business is slow and the dreams of margaritas on the beach seem unreachable. But the passion and belief in the value of a product IS enough to keep a person going when breathing life into a business. And that will make the difference between a 60% attrition rate (industry standard for most downlines) and a 2.5% attrition rate (the current standard for MY downline).
If you lead with the opportunity, you will probably go broke, and your organization will flounder. If you lead with the product or service, you will create enough income in your lifetime that you will have to hire professional shoppers to help spend it all.

I definitely had the same problem. I'm generally a very direct person and it takes a lot of subtle leading to steer a conversation toward meeting with or talking to your upline. What a mentor of mine told me to try was to say, "I'm working with the most amazing individual. You HAVE to hear his story." That really didn't sound like something that would come out of my mouth.
So after a lot of awkward conversations, I ended up experimenting. Sometimes I would take the direct route and say, "my business partner likes to speak with people interested in the opportunity to see if we are all on the same page" or feign ignorance by saying," I can't answer your question but I can put you in contact with someone who can." Or if you get them really excited about the product, tell them "Wait till you hear this guy's story--it'll blow your mind" or "you think you're excited now, listen to this guy."
But what I've found works best is to go directly for building the relationship between the potential client and the upline. I am blessed to have a mentor who is truly motivational, so when I see someone who is down I connect them and let my upline do his thing. He always gets them excited and hopeful and interested, which is right where you want them.
Hope this helps!

You must have tons of leads. Leads cost money. Advertising costs money. Unfortunately most uplines won't tell you that. The truth is you must have at least 70 leads a day in front of you to work with.
I have tried several different MLM programs and one of 2 things always happened:
I ran out of cash or.....
my uplines provided no support.
If you are involved in a "top tier" direct sales program, you will need even more leads as the number of people willing to spend over a grand just to sign up for the business will be far less.
