Hi! My husband and I recently joined a network marketing company and I was wondering if anyone had any advice or experience to share in regard to how we should best build our business as a team. He is sponsored by me in a bilateral compensation plan.
TIA!
Coni

Although my situation is a little different than yours, it's not much different. My husband and I have worked together in our own traditional and network marketing business for more than 20 years now. Working together can be a challenge and the one thing we both had to learn was to be patient with each other and to support each other in each owns weaknesses and in each owns dreams. In the end, what we found was our own strong and weak areas and what I am strong in, I do and what he is strong in, he does and it works out for us in the end to be the best way to work together.

Karen......That is such great advice! That's why it works for you, you've made it that way by compromising with each. Awesome that you and your husband can work together.
Coni....Good luck to you and your husband!
I don't have any advice for you, my husband is a city police officer and a sniper for the swat team. That is his passion, he wouldn't do anything else. He's an expert when it comes to shooting, guns and that sort of thing. He does instruct new snipers, as well. Even when he can retire in 6 yrs, he probably wouldn't work with me, he wants to do his own thing in the field he loves. Works for us!

Hi Concetta, My husband and I both work our home business and , I agree with Karen - we need to give each other room to grow and what works for him doesn't necesarily work for me and vice-versa!!
We homeschool 3 of our children so quite often he will work in the AM while I homeschool and then in the afternoon, while he does things with the kids or at least keeps an eye on them, I can work a few hours .It's working out well for us.
Kudos to you for working together as a team! You will be amazed at how much you grow personally and in your relationship with each other , through this!
Best to you! ~Viola

My husband is a Pharmacist and I a travel consultant, we to are a husband and wife team. He helps a lot in our business by answering ques, taking care of correspondence (he jokes about being the mailroom) and he helps around the house, KUDO'S to husband wife teams! The family that earns together stays together

Hi Coni,
I tried to pull up your compensation program to see how it's structured. But wasn't able to get it open.
I've been self-employed for most my life. This was a big adjustment for my wife when we first dated 15yrs ago. We have operated as team form day one. I would agree sometime you need to each other some space. But the benefit of working together is super, I wouldn't have any other way.
Not able to look over your compensation plan. I would suggest, that you keep a balance concerning each others production. To ensure each of you meet any production requirements, as well show you both with income.
I tried to explan to my wife the importance of having her own income. when considering retirement and social security. She did over time understand the importance.
If there is anything I can do to help, feel free to PM me.
Wish you both great success, happiness and long live together

Thanks for the reply fltraveler!
I'm sorry the comp plan was hard to access, I will look into that and check with our webmaster to see if we can make it easier in the future.
Basically it is a binary compensation plan with 8 possible ways to earn an income. The basic way is a 15-25% commission on all sales but once you have a downline you are also eligible for bonuses based on your downlines sales. (total team volume ,my husband is in my downline) .
Also the plan has a very cool feature- once you have personally sponsored 2 other reps you will receive leads generated from the company itself. MDB spends 50 million dollars each year in infomercial marketing and each person that responds to these ads is randomly assigned a coach (rep) who will then receive commissions on all future purchases whether they personally sell them or not. With this program team volume builds rather quickly so I just wanted to make sure we are taking the best advantage of the compensation plan itself.
Thanks again for your response, I hope this all makes sense If you have any input or questions just let me know.
Wishing you and your wife all the best in life and in business,
Coni

You have asked a great question but in order to be successful, it is going to take a lot more than a nutshell explanation.
But as I'm sure you know, that you need to know how to market.
And also always focus on how you can help other people get what they want because the more people you help, the more you will get what you want.
Warning: no matter how hard you work to help someone else, there are always going to be those that won't appreciate it, so don't take it personal whenever you have an experience like that.
I wish you the best of success.
Tim

I met my wife at work and we've worked in 3 other jobs in offices so we learned early on how to seperate business and pleasure.
Working from home: I've learned that when it comes to being right she's got that down I've actually learned alot from her in her short time working online, she is even getting a page on my news site when it is up and will help promote THE NEW opendomain.ws when it is up.

I have my husband writing articles and website content based on the assignments and keywords I give him. I do everything else - SEO, Ads, Site Building, Monetizing, Research, etc.
It works beautifully this way as I don't have to spend a lot of time writing articles and content but can keep going on everything else. It works for him because he doesn't know all the ins and outs of how to research keywords and do SEO actions or do website design and publication. Etc.
It also allows us to save time as I can research my field and he can research the subjects of his articles/content. So we don't have to do the same research twice.

Good luck to you both! My honey and I too are in business together. So far it's been great because I am an active member in the organization so I "understand" the ups and downs of lack of free time, member feed back, new leads, hot leads and cold leads. Late night phone calls etc. Support of one another has been our greatest strength so far and just being respectful of each other's time.

I think this is a great topic to have started.
I began my home business in March 2005 and my DH was really NOT supportive at first. He just really didn't see the bigger picture.
Soon that changed though (fortunately)! Now he is learning how to work this business with me. He'll work one side and I'll take the other and it's wonderful. He's so excited about coming home soon and with him working the business with me it will make our business grow even faster.
It is an adjustment though as he was home for 3 weeks training. I really have to be patient because he is learning right now so there are tons of questions!
He has his laptop and I have mine as well as our own phones so that portion is easy because we are not stepping on toes with internet or the phone. I got used to him being home those 3 weeks and he just went back last week and it's now another adjustment and I'm really ready for him to come home full time now!

Hi all,
My wife and I have worked together and at home for out whole married life (21 years). It can be frustrating at times, since we have different weaknesses and strengths.
My suggestion -- Learn what each one has to contribute, and utilize those skills to each other benefit.
Example: I am a big picture creative kinda guy, my wife is a detail oriented, proofreading, kinda gal. I blast marketing material into the word processor, and she fixes it up, correct grammar, spelling etc.
It's a great system once we learned it, but before that, got tense sometimes.

I can second that.
My husband and I also work very well together but we have gradually phased into our own specialties. It makes it easier when one of us can concentrate on one aspect of things, and the other can focus on the other half. We also learn different software programs at the same time so that between the two of us we have more skills and thus are more powerful and effective as a team.
