Many new distributors complain that they are unable to sponsor anyone into their mlm business. Reasons range from, no time to talk to people, everyone is negative, no one likes my company etc. Whether these reasons are real or not, does not matter. What would happen if you were to say: There is a $50,000 cash reward for anyone sponsoring 6 people within a week; would that change things a bit? Most people would have no problem at all finding 6 people to sponsor. Why is that? Well, $50,000 is a lot of money, so these people now have a strong motivation to find people to sponsor. They will talk to as many people as they need to and find their 6. What these people do not realize though is that sponsoring 6 good distributors is worth considerably more in the long run, than $50,000 cash right now. Finding just one, could be worth millions in residual income over the course of several years. So make sure that your new distributor understands potentially how much a new distributor in his downline could be worth to him. Once they truly understand this, they will have the motivation to find the people that want to do it. If your pay plan is set up correctly you will only need a few key people to be making the gangster money. Find the oysters with the pearls in them. Not all oysters are going to have pearls. No amount of hand holding or convincing is going to create a pearl. Leave the empty ones alone, find the pearls, they are well worth the search.

MarketLifelines: If your pay plan is set up correctly you will only need a few key people to be making the gangster money. Even that statement though laves a newbie thinking that once he has 'found' those key people his work is over.
One of the biggest lies of network marketing ( and believe me, I have heard them all!) is that you work really hard for a few years and then sit back on your tush and the money rolls into your bank account... if that were really so, then why are the big hitters STILL working their business in some form or other?
Not saying it is bad to still be working... not at all.... just wishing they would be honest and tell people that in order to make a killer income, it will take WORK all the way through...
Regardless what payplan you have...what product.... replicated website or not.... internet marketing or offline marketing... the thing to keep in mind is that it is a business... your very own business at that... and anyone who is a business person knows that it takes HARD work to be successful in the business world...
The reason so many fail in network marketing is because they are looking for a job... they never INTENDED to start a business. They are young moms, retired folks, disabled people, regular 9 - 5ers looking for a way out of a dead end job... and they are all looking for the answer in a work at home JOB.
Not saying it is bad - just saying that is what is happening.
It can take a lifetime to find those pearls... And the best place to find them is on forums like this, or places like adlandpro, any place where mlmers, and network marketers hang out. Even though most of them are on there advertising just like the rest of us... they are entrepreneurs, and entrepreneurs are curious. They will check you out if they like what they see about you...
Cheers!

I believe we all have been trained at some point to go about it the wrong way. We've been told to "recruit, recruit, recruit and that's where the money is. One thing they didn't tell us is that coming from that position always had us in a position of being "NEEDY". Simply put, we were focusing on what was in it for us instead of what was in it for our prospect. When you get that part of the equation right, sponsoring becomes a lot easier.
Just know that people love to buy, but they don't like to be sold.

MarketLifelines: There is a $50,000 cash reward for anyone sponsoring 6 people within a week; would that change things a bit? That wouldn't change anything for me. Not all people are motivated my money and once they are in your business - then what? Success takes a system that can be taught to others who teach it to others....duplication. This is what creates leverage. And wealth is created through leverage.
I agree that we need to find the right people but anyone can be successful with the right training, work ethic and persistence. Focusing on "getting people in" is short sided and is not a duplicatable system.
Learning the business, bringing value to others and leading by example is going to bring more long lasting results. Building a team with like-minded people is more rewarding and satisfying than slapping mud on a wall and hoping some sticks.
Helping others is what leads to success.

Well that's an approach that may indeed motivate some, but not all.
I find that one of the biggest barriers to success in network marketing is unrealistic expectations starting out.
People come in they see the big numbers and thousands in monthly residual income, but they don't understand what they really need to do to manifest such.
In otherwords, if people would enter a viable business opportunity and start with what I need to do to make a couple hundred, which depending on the business and comp-plan, is far more achievable for many, then they can let their business grow from there.
Starting out and looking to make a couple grand or more a month in just a month or two will not cut it and people then self-destruct.
If you are going to succeed in network marketing home business you need to simply consistently and steadily do and learn ways to put your business in front of people that are looking for or open to away to make additional income and let the success happen. I've done this and I know it works.
Unfortunately, most people can't be consistent in their efforts.

There is an old Zig Ziglar quote that says, "If you help enough people get what they want, you will get what you want."

MarketLifelines: Many new distributors complain that they are unable to sponsor anyone into their mlm business. Reasons range from, no time to talk to people, everyone is negative, no one likes my company etc. Great post MarketLifeLines,
Man, typing that just made me realize how much I wish people would use their names in chats.
All of these excuses are just ways of people practicing avoidance behavior. For one reason or another they're afraid to take action so they keep coming up with excuses! MLM isn't the problem. It's a proven business than can provide tremendous wealth to the people who work it. Did you see the catch? You have to work this business to be successful, no amount of complaining or excuses can do that for you.
Your point that these same people would jump and "DO" something if there were a guaranteed $50K on the table would prove that point don't you think? They would finally be working their business to get the reward.
mountainmom5: The reason so many fail in network marketing is because they are looking for a job... they never INTENDED to start a business. They are young moms, retired folks, disabled people, regular 9 - 5ers looking for a way out of a dead end job... and they are all looking for the answer in a work at home JOB. This statement above is so true! The reason is because people (everyone) is used to getting assignments of what to do and they no longer get that in MLM. You get assignments, at school, from your parents, at work, at home, etc. To help a newbie get started in your business make sure you give them small achievable assignments...something like calling 1 prospect today. This makes the whole overwhelming network marketing thing a little less overwhelming.

I found it's alot easier when prospect contact me than when I had to chase people to convince why they needed to join my opportunity. I have alot of fun talking to people who are motivated and seeking opportunities. I had to work in developing a system that would collect and endless supply of fresh lead from people who had contacted me. It makes a big difference. But you still have to go to work.

It is all about what you believe and if you believe in yourself.

Great insight
What I'd say is that people should master lead generation techniques for continuous lead flow and also lead conversion strategies.
With that in the bag , those numbers are reasonable.

The key for me is that you need to choose a company and product that you can be passionate about that everone needs to see because it adds value to their lifes and an endless supply of prospects that seek you out to join your opportunity.

I have found that you can do everything you can, and show people EXACTLY how their actions will put real cash in their pocket, and yet they won't do it.
Some people are just lazy, some people have too much of the "pay me to do something" mentality, and a lot of people just can't make a decision.
My good friend and mentor Jeffrey Combs teaches to ask people questions that help them to come to their own decisions.
Procrastination is rampant in our society!
If you are able to successfully help people to decide to take action, you will be VERY successful sponsoring new distributors.

Good Insight. First of all the goals should be high. The higher the goals , the better the motivation. And this industry is more about quality people rather than quantity. So it is more finding the right prospect rather hoping some one would join our opportunity.

I very much agree with you there. I've just started a new business and all i'm targeting is that first commission. to me, that is more realistic than dreaming about millions, while I can't even take the first step to earn my first pay cheque.

I have two words "Attraction Marketing." Has anyone read Mike Dillard's Magnetic Sponsoring. If not, I highly recommend it. This is the new age of Network Marketing. I don't mean to offend anyone here, please don't take this the wrong way but If you're still out there trying to sponsor people the old school way by prospecting everyone you come across then I'd be willing to bet that you're not seeing the results you intended on. I'm not saying that it's impossible, I'm just saying it takes too much time, too much effort and isn't the most effective way of building your buisness. By practicing attraction marketing you're prospects will seek you out and eventually you will have the oppurtunity of working with potential leaders in this buisness. But how do you attract these people to you? Well, you have to brand yourself as a leader, as someone who has solutions to other people's problems. You have to have a marketing system in place that monetizes your prospects even before they get involved in your buisness. This then helps finance your marketing model and also builds trust in you with your potential prospect. Learning these principles will help you sponsor 6 people in a week and even more. The goal is to work smart. Find the most effective ways of running your buisness. I'm sorry but that cold calling your uncles and aunts and friends and anyone else you come across just isn't worth your time and effort anymore. It's not effective. And for those who have built this buisness that way I give you all the credit in the world but I'd be willing to bet that you've been doing it for many years. I just don't have that much time to spend, waiting for results. It comes down to this, build your brand...build your value...put a strategic marketing plan into place. Crack open them wallets and consume as much content that you can to help propel you to the next level. Knowledge builds confidence, which in turn creates a leader. Be that person.

RMartin, I just clicked on your link, because I liked the wording of your signature. I have so often felt like I was "hunting down victims" in MLM.

Call it what you want. Some will do whatever it takes to make it and some won't. Most people quit this business when the warm market dries up and in 95% percent of the itme it happens. Then what? I have done it all and found you need to learn how to generate fresh & free ongoing leads where people are contacting you and want to hear from you only.
