I think we just had a thread that listed a bunch of free things you could do to help your website or blog to succeed. I can't remember which one it was off the top of my head.

Apart from posting in classifieds that pcwork mentioned, you can also submit to free directories (preferably related to your site/blog topic), write articles (including a link back to your site) and submit them to article sites, and, of course, post in forums while using a link in your signature.

Those are a few of the methods most commonly recommended. Personally, I think the most effective thing you can do is add more content to your site/blog using keywords that you have researched for your niche. The more quality content that you build focused on specific keywords and phrases, the more opportunity you have for the search engines to send you free traffic.

Also, when you include photos be sure to add appropriate alt tags. Google has been sending a tremendous amount of traffic through photo/image searches in the past few months. Take advantage of it.

Sorry I can't tell you anything about the link you posted. I've never tried that.

Okay, I took a look at the link for your initial question.

My opinion? Sure, it could work to get you a bunch of visitors, but I suspect they will do exactly what I just did. Click on the link, let it load, look at the code, close the page.

That is traffic, but not TARGETED traffic. It appears that the first site listed is yours. It is a nice looking site on it's own - Very professional looking. Because of the type of people who would be inclined to use this service (online marketers) you may get a few people who see your page and find something that interests them enough to click on through one of your links, etc.

I guess the only drawback in trying would be that your numbers will be "off," so to speak. When you check your sites stats and progress, it will seem like you have a lot more traffic than you really do. Your click through rate will plummet, etc. That may not matter in the least to you. That is your decision to make.

For my site concepts, chocolate candy and auto insurance, I don't really think it would be of any benefit. Sure I may get the occasional chocoholic who gets sucked in when temptation is placed before them, but I doubt anyone at all would pursue the auto insurance info. as a result of this system.

Does that make sense? I hope so. Anyway, post back in a month and let us know if you feel it really helped you as far as generating more income, not just a surge in 30 second page views to your site.

All the best.

The best internet marketing methods also happen to be free. The world of Web 2.0 sites like myspace, squidoo, and youtube coupled with article marketing offer extremely targeted traffic at no expense!

costainternet,

I agree free forms of advertising are very effective. I am not a huge fan of paid advertising right now. Don't get me wrong; I do pay for advertising, but feel free sites are an extremely effective way to get more traffic to your site.

Take a look at my Thread "Paid vs. Free Advertising".

I avoid "click exchanges" like the Plague. You want targetted traffic from interested visitors. Remember to get backlinks from RELEVANT sites or the Search Engines won't like you.

There are so many different ways to market online and probably about 90% of them are free. I suggest using a wide variety of methods to attract visitors. Personally I have found article marketing to work the best and also the Free Traffic Bar software has provided a steady stream of visitors for me (not a lot but more constant than many of the other methods). Social bookmarking (Digg and Delicious for example) is really big at the moment but its getting the people to mark you in the first place that is difficult. If your website is not already search engine optimized then try to learn as much about this as possible to do it yourself as well - there are many free tutorials on this on the internet which can really help bring in more traffic. Basically, use whatever free methods you can to bring in a variety of different prospects.

In my opinion paid advertising still works, and you can still use it to build a long term relationship with your list/subscripers.

What seems to work best for me in my business is co-reg leads, which are both cheap, effective and very very quick! So if you want to build your list quickly go and find yourself a good co-reg leads supplier and offer your list some real value...

Bum marketing or article marketing always works for me. And the best part is, this is a free method.

Most methods have already been mentioned, eg articles, social bookmarking, stumble upon.

Handing out business cards I've found to be laser targeted.
