So i just joined twitter because i heard that was a good marketing option. I'm alittle unsure of how you actually market through it. I did just join so i havent had time to browse through and see what it is all about but i figured some peeps on here would have used it and just wondering if they can give me a boost to get started on it.
Thanks moyke

You know - I have twittered in the past and have not looked at it recently, but was thinking about looking at it again and see what all the twittering is about...
Am thinking someone who is a twitterer will stop by soon... hang tight.

I have mainly other marketers following me on Twitter. It just gets your name out there, and when you update web pages, you can post your link and your followers will see it. I have made additional sales using Twitter.
Also, I have checked out posts of Gurus I am following, and have picked up some great IM tips.
When you get to the point of following many people, which may be as a courtesy to them for following you, you can select your favorites and add them to Friend Feed or iGoogle, so you only have to read those particular updates, rather than sift through Tweets for everyone else every day.
And your profile is yet another place to earn a back link to your site.
Victoria

I recently joined Twitter as well and Victoria seems to have hit it right on the head. In a couple weeks I've made a sale and have networked with several interested prospects. Like Victoria said, there are a lot of top notch Internet Marketers on Twitter whose updates can be very useful to you as a follower.

Mike- I guess it all depends on the product you are marketing. When it comes to Twitter or any social media outlet, connecting with your potential customers (or in this case followers) is key. If people get to know "you" first, they will be more apt to listen to you about your product.
There are many people or companies who get on Twitter and basically shoot a random tweet about their product. It begins to look a bit like "Spam Banners". The successful ones are always connecting and making connections and then tell us information on their product or services.
If one can use Twitter, it can be such a powerful marketing tool!
All the luck!

I love Twitter... it gets kind of addicting and it is great for marketing! I get lots of traffic from using it. The key is to get as many followers as you can and the only way to do that is to just start following people. You need to target other work at home people, so start with the people that post here with their twitter ID and then start following people from their lists of people and people will follow you in return. I don't have my twitter listed in my signiature because I need as much traffic to my lenses as I can get, so you can follow me on Twitter by adding /Julsy23 after the twitter.com. I always try to follow anyone who is following me!
I would also say that Twitter can be a bit slow these days during peak hours because of all the overloaded traffic it is getting. maybe they will upgrade it soon!

Hi Julsy, I am on Twitter too and I am following you. I also love Twitter and still trying to figure it all out and get the hang of it but I think it is a great way to build a list for free and one that is live.

I am doing the 30 day challenge and that is one of the first things you are instructed to do. I am still unsure exactly how to use it so maybe I will start following some of you here too. I did have a strange experience though. I had a lady start following me and next thing I knew she had over 80 advertising posts on my site. How can I avoid this in the future? Is this normal?

Hi Robin,
You can block this lady in your twitter to stop the spamming. She wasn't using twitter to do networking, but to do advertising.

Hey All,
I am a big twitter user as well! I was really unsure how to use it at first but it is just one of those things that when you "get it" you get it! There are tons of videos on youtube that help explain things!

Thanks Cherie! I was wondering. Also, I did not know how to get her posts off. That was very annoying. I can't believe people do that sort of thing. Is it acceptable or should she be reported?

Twitter is great because you can follow people by searching for their specific niche. Follow them, and their followers will see you, and follow you. I figure the more people you follow, then the more chances of getting more followers you have.
I use Twitter Direct Message to get leads. I allow my email address to receive the direct messages from other twitter members and I direct message them back. It's usually from people that I chose to follow, and they are messaging me saying, thanks for following. I can also choose to send my followers a message saying thanks for following. I always put my link in the message, so I pretty much get a hit to my website everytime I send out a direct message. I have received multiple sales with twitter.
Just be sure not to always send messages, read other updates, and post updates as well. Click on other network marketers links to get a feel for what program they are in. Then you will have a better idea on how you can approach this person and provide value to their business.
I hope this helps.

I re-started using Twitter. Before I never got any followers despite posting all kinds of links.
Then I decided to change things up a bit. I deleted all my old tweets and mixed them up with valuable advice, a few jokes about my niche and then some links.
Now, I'm getting at least 6 followers a day. People want to know you're human, not just a sales hog.
Be sure to include keywords in all your tweets to attract the kind of people you're looking for.
Another good thing to do is search twitter first by going to search.twitter.com. Type in the keyword you're targeting and check to see what shows up.
For example, if you were trying to market the "work form home" niche and you put that in Twitter search, you end up with all kinds of tweets about people who came "home" "from work" and did yada, yada, yada. Not the people you're trying to market to.
Check your keywords before you tweet.

If your using Twitter to market a business opportunity, product or service; make sure you have a target audience following you first.

I'm assuming it the networking that gets the word out there of you and your products.
I thought Twitter is the dumbest thing to be invented since it allows people to know your every action. Why is it we feel the need to tell everyone everything? Isn't facebook/ myspace enough? Soon we'll all have cameras in our homes that allows everyone to see us at all times, too.
Buuuuuut...I do think it is a great idea to use as a marketing technique. But I am not sure how that works, since dont you have to follow people, and have people follow you? Dont you need to network out of your friends? and if you do, how do you make people follow you? There is so many things out there to learn about Twitter. but I'm sure we can get it in time. It seems simple enough!

One guy in Canada who was unemployed, landed a job using Twitter. He was in the advertising field and had been unsuccessful at gaining employement by traditional means.
So he decided to use Twitter and he got a job with a major company. So Twitter can be valuable if you know how to use it.
