Question: If I type in a key phrase and 144 million comes up and then I type it in in " " and 137 comes up, exactly what do those 2 different numbers mean. I know one is something about # of searches and one is competition. Am I correct and could someone please clarify. Thanks all.

The 144 million is the times that particular key phrase
has been search for. The one in " " that comes up to 137,
that one is the number of competitors in relationship
with that key phrase.

This looks like a very competitive key phrase. Anyway a little
more SEO will help you with these numbers?

Best of luck,

So that means that there are over a million searches and only 137 people competing with it? Is that not a good thing? I am confused. It doesn't take much these days.

Oh, sorry I thought you meant 137 million. So, no, that is actually pretty good, it means you have almost no competition for that particular key phrase.

Try reading "Bum Marketing Method" or "The Poor Boy Marketing Method" by Travis Sago. It is free to download, and it will give you tons of advice on SEO, article writing, and product selection, as well as explain how key phrases numbers work.

Best of luck,

If you put the " " around your phrase, it picks up the exact phrase all over the internet - so basically it is letting you know how many others are using that exact phrase.

If you search for this intitle:"keyword phrase" - enter it just like that in the search bar - it will let you know how many others are using your phrase IN their title.

The 144 million that came up for you is how many things are out there with that phrase - not how many times it was searched for - if I understand it correctly.... to search for how many times your phrase is being searched - use the seobook.com free keyword tool.

Good luck

Hi Robin,

If you'd like to research competition, the first step it to use a keyword tool.

A couple of great keyword tools are:

https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

and
