Where are some places you can get pictures to use on websites that are royalty free?

You can get them from shutterstock, getty, dreamstime, and most stock agencies.
There are restrictions on use and a link back must be provided.
One that is easy to use is:
http://www.freedigitalphotos.net/images/terms.php
They allow most any use on your website for a link to the photographer.
I prefer to use my own images since google image search ranks uniqueness.
Some of my sites get more hits from image searches than topics.
Be sure to use image tags to help google index them better.
IMG03302011.jpg doesn't get much attention without words.
Better yet, name your image files with keyword variations.

You can also go to the following sites:

Free Range Stock
Stock.XCHNG
Every Stock Photo
MorgueFile
Mayang's Free Textures

Hope that helps

I usally do a search on google for public domain images, just add the name or topic of the image you are looking for into google. I also think stock.xchng is good to.

Yeah, that is pretty much what I do too.

When I need something, I do a search on Google for it.

A8ch:
- Fotolia

@ Hermas: what I've found so far all fotos from 'Fotolia' have a stamp inside. Until now, I haven't discovered how to eliminate this. Even if the pic is good, it's not so appealing to have this bench-mark on the pic

@all: There is another nice resource called Flickr creative commons

Here you have various options. So you can choose the one which suites best to your purpose.
