Okay so I know that the only stupid question is one that is not asked so I have a not stupid question to ask. LOL

I know I should know this by now but I don't.

What is organic traffic?

For example,
I have some lenses that are on Google at a good PR. Those lenses are getting traffic because they are on Google (of course). Would that be considered organic? Or am I way off?

Organic Traffic as a Definition is the generation of free web traffic sent to your website/blog from targeted keywords when searching for content on the World Wide Web when using a search engine. Remember this traffic is unpaid and keyword based

Hi Gridellas,

Good question and I'm sure that several others have been wondering the same.

Yep, free traffic.

Search engines and directories (YAHOO, Google, etc...) are definitely Organic Traffic sources. I'm sure that no one would argue against that.

There are additional free traffic sources but they aren't commonly referred to as "Organic Traffic". It's a personal call and it depends upon who you ask.

You can also get free traffic from classified ads, press release sites, blog posts containing links to your site, Squidoo, Ezine Articles, and similar. Only difference really is that you created the links.

There are additional methods as well: your own forum sig links and your comments in blogs that contain links to your site.

But the two paragraphs above are not usually counted as "Organic Traffic" per se. Then again, some would argue to the contrary.

Personally, I consider all of them to be Organic Traffic since they are not paid links or listings.

However, I would group them into two different groups:

1. Search engines and directories.

2. Other free methods.

Would love to hear some other opinions!

Only heard of this term "Organic Traffic" recently.

It is because of the organic vegetables.

Hi Cherie,

Lol, is organic traffic more healthy than paid traffic?

:)

PS. Whenever I shop I try to go with organic.

I prefer organic traffic and food!
So, how about the best of both?
