Hello everyone I'm new to the forums. Right now I'm working on setting up a blog but need to find more information. Decided to go with Blogger instead of wordpress since it does'nt look quite as complicated.
If you can could you tell me of a place that has good information on how to set up a blog. The blogging process has me a bit confused.
I've already learned a lot just from reading the post.

I have experience with blogger.com and wordpress.com. The problem with wordpress.com is that they don't let you post ads, adsense, and any widgets that are not included in the template. I originally tried wordpress because I like three column templates and was very disappointed by this. Blogger on the other hand is owned by google and of course you can put adsense and anything else you want on it. A lot more freedom. And, I searched for three column blogger templates and found a site that delivered (for free) so I am a happy girl.

There are few posts here on blogging, do a search. Basically, you have to post regularly and submit your blog to blog search directories

Can you share with me where to get the 3-column template. I've been looking for that too.
Thanks

All you do to set up your blog is post original content frequently and make sure you bookmark or ping your blog to get traffic. You can aslo monetize your blog with adsense.

I"ve been using wordpress.org a LOT lately for my websites, and I must say, I love it! with wordpress.org you'll need your own domain and hosting. You should really look into it.

The blogger site is very good, pretty intuitive, ideal for a beginner. They have an extensive help section--should answer any questions about how to use the site.
You should check out feedburner.com also. This lets people subscribe and receive notification when you update your blog. Also free!

I have setup both, but I confess the Wordpress was a little out of my depth. Found a group that installed it on my domain for me for free! Sweet! I still have both Blogger and WordPress blogs and prefer my Wordpress one (better template) but Blogger is a little easier to use and I don't have to manage the files. Downside? They lost a few posts of mine and there is nothing I can do about it.
I help my downline (network marketing) with understanding and creating a blog using Blogger. You can see the video's on my current Wordpress blog [Link removed - Admin]
A couple of the first video's were pretty rough video quality, but I up'd my tools and the last couple are clearer with better audio as well. I am not a trainer nor do I make any money doing this, just like to help.

I have blogs using both WordPress and Blogger. I prefer WordPress because of how much more you can do with it. I have a friend who installs WP blogs for $25 if anyone is interested.

Wordpress takes a up a lot of server resources. Is there a simpler blogging software available?

Blogger is very simple to setup and manage, is hosted on THEIR site and is truly "push-button-publishing".
I guess I am a little bit of a control-freak though, I LIKE having control over the archives, whether or not I can add something to the template or move it to a domain name that makes sense.
I didn't like having the XXXX.BlogSpot.com at the end of my domain, which was why I looked into Wordpress. Now my blog name is simple and easy to remember (http://www.CenayNailor.com/Blog) and doesn't look like all the other "blogs" out there on blogger.

Also when you use a free service, you cannot expect any customer support

I use a program that teaches how to blog. Step by step, even uses videos. IF you are wanting a blog to promote your online or home based business, you'll really want to see this.

What is that program that gives you step by step instructions? I started a blog on bloggers some time ago but haven't done anything with.

I agree with Jeff. Wordpress supposedly gets indexed by the search engines a little more as well.
I had Jeff's friend set up mine and he optimizes it for you and adds in all the plugins. For that price its totally worth it.
Take care,
Laura

I have a wordpress blog .org not .com and it is difficult for me to manage since I don't know code speak(php, css) anyway I love my blog and know that I can put anything on it I want and nobody will come and shut me down for their reasons whatever they may be. It was installed for free with plugins in place if you sign up under their web host link, they give you several choices, I chose hostgator. If you google ninjablogsetup you should be able to find it.
The bad part is I don't know how to do anything but post because of all the code stuff. I'm hoping I can figure it out somewhere along the line. There is a wordpress forum that helps sometimes and on youtube there are a lot of wordpress tutorial videos you can watch that will help. I like the freedom I have, but can see why people would go with the easier to manage thing. I hope this helps and if you have questions you can PM me. You can visit my blog by clicking on my link below it's the moonbowchaser link. It's not monetized since I can't figure out how to do anything, lol. Sonni
