Im looking for advice on promoting a free program. Ive come across many that think that because its free its not worth a look. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to best promote the attributes of the program. Do you feel forum advertising is best? PPC? Classifieds?

Create a landing page. Get an autoresponder and put a few email messages in it that offer good advice on marketing in general. Weave in the link for your program in a soft sell way.
Then you are starting a mailing list you can follow up in the future to sell additional products.

Classifieds works well if your product or service is interesting

Be sure to advertise in areas where people who don't have any money hang out - they are your greatest market for FREE opportunities.
No question about it - broke people want money.
The best areas to locate the legions of people who want something for nothing are sites like Craigslist, Traffic Exchanges, and Safelists.
I think you'll probably lose money if you use PPC advertising.

I am truly appreciating the good advice. I think im on the right track as ive been thinking of the traffic exchanges and free classifieds. Have any of you guys had any luck on Myspace or Youtube? Im think video would be a good idea. Any thoughts on how to make it as popular as possible? Thanks again for the great ideas.

Thanks for this post! I have been trying to market some free programs through article marketing. I thought it would be like shooting fish in a barrel - wrong!
I have avoided safe-lists like the plague. Maybe it's time to reconsider. I guess I just need to get a junk email account.

Marktech, could you tell us a bit more about your experience with promoting free programs with article marketing? I'd be interested in hearing any tips you may have. Thanks!

I use free classifieds all day long! Works great for me and there's more free classifieds sites with plenty of traffic to satisfy what I need to get done.

Free classified ads have worked wonders for me. I get the traffic I need and it cost me nothing. Plus my website gets indexed into search engines. So I would have to agree with brihar2012 and aplina. The Free classified ads are a good source of marketing your business.

Wrong guy to ask. I have had nothing but bad luck promoting free stuff so far. Most of the free stuff I promoted was from ProfitRocket, (which sucks! IMHOP) every time I signed-up for an offer they would suspend or cancel it a week later and any tiny commision I earned would magically disappear! Ask someone who was lucky enough to hit on the right combination - I have admittedly limited experience.

The key to article marketing is key words. NEVER EVER use an improper noun. By that I mean if you're writing an article about Joe Blow's Magic Money Maker, use that name AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE, also have that somewhere in your title. You have to write what people in google are going to search for. The better you do this the better off your article will be. For instance, search yuwie vs myspace in google. I'm the 2 of the top 3 listings out of 33500 possible pages...this tells me that people are searching for this term and that everytime someone does they click on my articles...I make money for one of them If you just type in yuwie.com, I'm 9 on the first 10. Out of 895,000.
Keep in mind oyu have to back link these sites, but hell I wrote both of these two articles back in November sometime and I still get traffic to the articles and clickthroughs to my site, I've even got sign ups on a few things from these articles...and I've not touched them in quite some time.

Hello, I have been having a lot of good luck with free solo ads. You have to sign up with places like traffic-speedway.com and then you agree to get ads sent to you in your email account and then they send your ad out to others email. I have recieved many opt-ins to my No out of Pocket Cost to join program. Best of Luck.
