The back-story:
Here's the deal. I am tech savvy and was using my own auto-responder software on my web page. It's pretty easy for me to implement and customize, although it lacks some of the tracking (Opened messages, and using bit.ly to check urls clicked, although I get to do that).

The meat:
I decided to go with GR, and give it a try for a month, because it just didn't seem that people are opening the e-mails that are being sent, and I figured that it was because I was using a self-hosted AR system, whereas GR abides by anti-spam rules for mail providers and it wont' end up in the spam box. (note i'm still using [email protected]) email address, not usernam@gmail / yahoo / hotmail etc)

What's peoples thoughts on this? Does using GR keep you from people's spam box.

I have not used Get Response, but I don't think it can prevent messages from going into people's spam folder. Hopefully, your readers will like the content you provide, and look for your messages even if they end up in the spam folder - all they have to do is mark it as "not spam", and they will start receiving your messages in their inbox.

getagrip,
have you used any AR software?

I think it may be time to migrate my users back to infinity responder and continue to use that.. the only thing is I can't do split testing on e-mails which is a slight downer

I have been using Getresponse for the past few years and must say that they are very good.

It is not a matter of who is better, it is important to know the open rate.

Don't forget that sometimes some of the emails go to the subscriber's JUNK mail box so you have no control over that.

Here's a TIP: many of the very successful internet marketers use Getresponse. Others use Aweber.

I guess my main question is.. why use them over something that I can implement myself (usually takes an hour to setup on each domain) that I don't need to pay a monthly fee for (Either free, or 1 time fee for the server side software?
Really the only numbers I wont' have are open rate etc.. and I'm sure with a little work I can find one that has tracking.

Have you considered using GVO?

http://gogvo.com

They have VERY high open rates and they are an MLM company.

On the front page there you will see MANY of the top internet marketers use this software.

My email's open rates tend to be very very good with this company.

There is a $1 trial for the first 14 days.

Matt

Yowza 44 bux for service I'm paying $7 for Unlimited of right now?
My host give me Unlimited Bandwith, Unlimited Space, Unlimited domains. You can get AR software for somewhere around 250, gvo is $444 extra in a year over my current host. Looks like GVO may be great for someone who'se not tech savvy.. but most of the things on there I can do without a service.
