So I was just reading another post where people started talking about drop cards. Have to admit this was the first I heard of it. Who uses them. Any experiences you can share?

Drop cards are a very hit and miss marketing technique. You have to put out a lot to generate a response. When I have done them in the past the response was about 1% and the conversion ended up about 1/4% of the total fliers put out.
The pros are it is cheap and anyone who can walk can do it. You can get 5,000 3"x4" fliers printed for about $100. The cons are it has a low conversion rate and from time to time someone will call you to try and ruin your day.
In some areas there are companies who do drop card distribution campaigns. This is something I have been looking into for future promotions.

Doesn't seem like a very targeted marketing strategy. Like Bob alluded to, you'll probably have more people responding with "take these cards and shove'em" than actual conversions.

I agree...wasn't really considering them. Just was curious to hear more about the concept.

I have used this method of selling. It is 'hit and miss' but only at first, few people respond but, if you are selling some product or service which people re-buy on a regular basis, it enables you to identify customers. Those customers buy several times and sometimes indefinitely. A pain at first but it can be worth it for the right business type.

anyone looking for cheap drop cards clubflyers.com was what I used when I helped promote a band for a bar, now although there is a low percentage of people that see them for one big show this bar would average like 120 people a night, granted it was a national act, but putting flyers around at all the tattoo shops, coffee shops, etc, the old fashioned way did bring a total of 327 people in the door, for Naples, FL at a metal show that was pretty impressive... I have since moved to a more wide genre'd music as I wanted that band to be but... erhem factors limited me in that way... /erhem... lol anyways, now being that we interbreeed so many different genres I do plan on using drop cards again because like it was said like 100 bucks i think total was 130 shipped and everything ready to go, photoshop up yourself a nice flyer, front and back pretty, good cardstock... just be careful you don't post in a no soliciting area. i also worked at a retail store in a plaza in town and just got permission from the owner.... a long time ago when flyering for my guitar lesson company someone once did call and complain that it colored their window... they wanted me to buy them a new window, said they called the cops, and were actually trying to scam me because I called the police and there was no such report....
BUT what I Learned from that experience was great, I was totally careful the entire time, make sure NO article of jewelry is hanging, clothes hanging, anything that would possibly scratch a car, again make sure NO no soliciting signs, and you're good to go... i would give away lessons on prepay and great a great responce... to the tune of thats all I used and with the acceleration from that word of mouth referalls and in less than 6 months had a total of like 30 students I would book weekly through out the month.
Another post I was in earlier I forget which mentioned something about multiple streams, I failed in that regard with the lessons because I was solely depending on it to get out of my then life insurance job that I finally ended up quitting like a month ago (which was... Not Heaven to say the least lol) and see when any bump in the road came it happened to be surgery of having to have some lymphnodes removed, it totally was a wrench in the gears because I didn't pay anyone to help market those flyers, and when I was down no one was doing it!!!! So I would say do it if you're going to but further yourself with the cash flow in right back into more marketing like a radio or tv ad to get what you can get from it and move on to bigger and better agendas.

Drop Card or Sizzle Card marketing is a off line technique I use to attract hoards of leads for my business. You can use them to build your opportunity. Drop Card will then go to my website where they will see a video of me with a Drop Card and my opt-in page.

MY experience with drop cards sucked...bad.
But I'd rather you listen to someone who HAS done it right instead of those whom it didn't work for.
Dropcards can be very untargeted, but it depends on where you drop card at.
Personally, drop card marketing isn't leveraged enough for my time, so it just didn't work out for me.
But that's not to say it won't work out for you.

Everyone has their own experience...but what really counts is your experience and the tracking you do.
Drop cards is mass marketing in a sense because you're dropping the cards all around town. However, the marketing message on the card and the process you put people through who either call the sizzle # or go to the website should sort and sift for you so you get less qualified people and more qualified ones.
I did this method for a little while and I did get a little bit of response because I made it a habit to be consistent with it...however that was short lived because a lot of people who responded either didn't own computers or did not have access to one. Or people were looking for work at home jobs.
If anyone plans to do this marketing technique they have to be consistent, make sure the marketing message is clear, lead people to a sizzle line (recorded message) or to a website (to me it's better) and make sure you track your results.
You have to put out lots and lots of cards out consistently to see results. If you're not willing to do this, then this is a method you should let pass you by.

Some good points are made here but I have to say - the flip side of random drop cards to the general neighbourhood would have to be article marketing.
Most of the neighbourhood are never even dreaming of your opportunity... you've gotta go to a targeted marketplace to make drop cards even half worth the effort...but consider this
Articles are the ultimate drop cards, are they not?
If you write good articles which are posted around the internet, people will search for terms that lead them to your article.
Then you can effectively reach millions of people who are searching for just your exact information. Not only are a certain percentage of them going to follow your call to action, but they will think of you as their hero.
No cost, no wastage and only 100% target leads. And the system works while you sleep and with a whole lot less effort.
So the better plan would be: 1. write keyword specific articles related to your niche 2. post articles to directories and blogs with a call to action included 3. build a list of interested people 4. develop a relationship using autoresponder messages 5. always provide a way for them to contact you 6. enjoy working with only the targeted go getters who ask to join you.
Only one word of caution though - it does take time, but these drop cards will work tirelessly for you, for year after year with no extra cost - EVER!

I was reading on another forum, that someone was using business card sized drop cards that did a really good job of piquing interest. He'd just stick a few on garbage cans at the mall, or on the community board at stores..
I would not recommend putting them on peoples cars.. if it were me, and you put it on my car.. I'd call you a few times, but it wouldn't be because I'm interested in your business.. I"m interested in telling you not to touch my car..

It doesn't really matter what type of marketing you are doing...if you can't get "a large group of people to do a few simple things over a consistent period of time," you won't have a successful network marketing business.
The key to success is duplication. So whatever you can get a large group of people to do over a consistent period of time will work. Can you duplicate "drop card" marketing throughout your organization? Is that the skill you want to learn....because however you choose to market your business, learn the skills and master them.
All the best of success,
