I've seen on here that many people are saying that they are having success with free ads. I haven't had much success with free ads, so I just wanted to ask some questions.
What is your basic strategy for posting the ads? Do you decide to post 5 each day or 1 a week, or what? How do you format your ads? Do you find that the long article type ads work best or do the short and to the point ads work better?
Someone educate me. Thanks!

Longer ads work better. Twice a week is effective

I agree with pcwork.
Additionally, pictures help.
Keep the hype way down to avoid being flagged.

I find that safelists work much better. Some good ones are:
myfreesafelist.com responsivehits4you.com mygenuinesafelist.com
You are able to post once per day if you are a free member and you can post much more if you upgrade to pro. I have had some good leads from these safelists.

Wow guys, thanks for the replies. Again, sorry for being so green, but what is a safelist?
Thanks.

Basically, a safelist is a group of people all willing to receive each others promotions via email --in the hopes that their promotion will generate more business. In other words, safelists are many, many "marketers" that have agreed to receive each others email.
The drawback is that everyone is trying to sell and no one wants to buy. Some do buy, however, and that's your market. You just need something that other "marketers" will want or need. Currently, there are many tens of thousands of members to various safelists, and some are more effective than others. Also, there are different types (i.e. web-based and PC-based).

Have you tried writing articles and submitting them to , like, ezinearticles??
They draw more high quality traffic if you use the right keywords.
Rather than having random people click on your site, write an article about something similar to your site. Your links will be in your resource box.
I did a couple real quick on 'government tax rebate checks' and it comes up at the top of google - didn't cost a dime , took about 10 min to write and draws traffic to my site every day

I have mostly done targeted marketing like article writing. I have tried some ad placing but did not have good results. I wonder what types of products would do better with less targeted advertising. Very popular stuff or things that everyone needs I guess - like ringtones or insurance.
And I guess since most safelist members are marketers - selling stuff that marketers need would indeed work.
I would ask what products people have had luck with with untargeted advertising but I guess that would be giving away a niche - sort of.

Pretty much all of the free marketing I have done that has been effective has been article marketing. Free ads have not been too successful for me, so I was just wondering if there was something of an art to it to make your ads more successful.
