Working from Home
Have you ever thought about quitting your job and bringing your work closer to home? If you have, you're not alone. Millions of people consider the benefits that working from home could offer them. In fact, many people have managed to successfully work from home while still being able to provide themselves and their family the financial support they require.
There are many different types of jobs that a person can do from home including freelance writing, web design, affiliate marketing, and taking paid surveys. Depending on what you're career goals and lifestyle is like, you can work full time or part time. Thus, whether you are in college, already have a full time job, are looking for a way to make a little extra cash, want to start a new career, or your own business, plenty of working at home opportunities await you.
Of course, there is more to working from home than meets the eye. Like
any job, there are pros and cons that you need to consider and take
seriously before making any final decisions.
Some benefits of working from home include:
- No commute - You don't have to worry about traveling in rush hour or bad weather, you can work in your pajamas if you want.
- Work by your own schedule - You can prioritize your time and spend more time with your partner or family. You can also work during the time of the day you are the most effective - morning, afternoon or night.
- Save money - Due to the fact that you don't need a car to get to work, you can save on the cost of gas, car payments and maintenance.
- Reap the rewards of your work - You can feel proud of the job you do because you're rewarded and paid for your work; it doesn't go to someone else's company.
- Relatively less stress - Depending on your job, you don't have to suffer the face-to-face stress of dealing with customers, employees, a boss, or fellow co-workers.
Some disadvantages of working from home include:
- Procrastination - Due to the fact that you are in charge of your work, it becomes easy to put things off.
- No benefits - If you are self-employed you won't be provided with health benefits that are offered by most companies to full time workers.
- Understanding the internet - Most of the work you do will likely be internet based, which means you need to learn how to effectively use a computer and understand internet jargon and programs.
- Scams - There are plenty of work at home scams out there such as stuffing envelopes. Essentially, if a job sounds too good to be true it usually is.
- Long hours - If you are starting your own business you will need to work long hours to make sure your company gets off the ground, grows, and continues to stay afloat above the competition.
As you can see, there is plenty for you to think about before you decide to work from home. Therefore, remember that although working from home is ideal for some, it's not for everyone.
