Hey All,

I'm new here, but for my contribution of ideas. What I did in September, 2007 was purchase a 39 acre Finca in Mendoza Argentina. I have a 10 acre plum orchard, 5 acres of grapes, 14 acres alfalfa, a house with plumbing, no electric yet but cost to install is around $2500. Not bad considering cost of living in the USA now. I have around 11 acres not in production. When all is done should be around $40,000 net per year. Land is so cheap there! Cost of my property in beautiful Mendoza??? $75,900!!! Peanuts!

Thats impressive. I've never thought about buying real estate in different countries.

Ironically, my husband and I have been looking at Belize, since it is under English law. However, we want to go there first and see it firsthand. We also have friends that are in Costa Rica now looking around. At some point, dreaming right now, I would like to do this for about 6 months of the year and keep something small in the USA for the other 6 months vs. the large house and expenses we have now.

Did you buy sight unseen, or go there for a visit? Do you live in Mendoza, or have someone working the land for you?

Do you just rent out the properties for profit? Let me know your general strategy because it sounds intriguing!

It's impressive until you go and get the real "skinny". There are many retirement havens but the best are only now being discovered. Most are barely civilized but will become so and very quickly. One has to be prepared to spend some cash to find out, visit and then invest. It's not for everyone but it works for many. Just got to be flexible and accepting. As do the people you will run in to.
