What a lot of people do not realize is that you don't have to have a product to actually sell on Ebay. What you can do is actually create a digital product (for example, an ebook) in the form of a PDF document, and sell that product on Ebay.
If you are going to write an ebook to sell it on Ebay, it doesn't have to be very long - 5 to 20 pages should suffice. You can sell it from anywhere between 99 cents and $9.99. To make the ebook more profitable for you, embed the ebook with affiliate links.
When deciding an a topic to write your ebook on, try and choose a topic which solves problems - there has to be a need for the product. Also, choose a topic which there is not already a lot of free information available on the internet.

To answer your question, yes, I have sold a few mini ebooks on Ebay in the past, but I'm not selling any ebooks on Ebay at the moment.
However...
Currently, I'm reading an ebook called "The Silent Sales Machine Hiding on Ebay", which encourages you to create your own digital product. It also shows you how to get the most out of Ebay - and teaches you ways to make money through Ebay which most people aren't aware of.
Having said that, I'm planning to start selling ebooks on Ebay again very soon.......but I have to write them first

Getagrip, sounds like fun. I might feel inclined to try this myself. I have sold on Ebay before, but general household stuff, which is great to make instant money to pay for advertising if you need some. That was a long time ago anyway But I'm certainly interested to do an ebook myself. What software do you use to convert the books? Is it Primo? Anh where would I get graphics for the book cover? Is there a free software that does this for me somewhere?
Cheers

You can convert a word document into a PDF file for free at http://convert.neevia.com.
Also, the ebook cover creator isn't entirely necessary. Technically, you can just create an image with microsoft word or "paint" which comes with most personal computers - and you can make it into a small sized image just for a "visual" for the ebay gallery.
I know that Holly Mann's ebook comes with an ebook cover creator, but I think you can get one for free, just by typing in "free ebook cover creator" or something like that into the search engine.
One more thing - before you go through the trouble of writing an ebook, you might just do a "completed listings" search on ebay to see if any similar items are selling.
Also, if you know what you are going to write about, you can just type the subject of your ebook into the Overture Keyword Suggestion Tool (see below) in order to find out if there is any demand for that kind of product. If the keyword phrase gets a lot of search results, chances are, there is demand for that product. If the keyword doesn't get very many searches, chances are that there isn't a whole lot of demand for that product. Here is the link to the keyword tool:

I have been on Jim's (author of Silent Sales Machine) list for years. He certainly is a respected professional, and sends quality, helpful email. I really think highly of him.
eBay has changed their e book policies a few times recently. I do know that there was success with eBay Classifieds, but am not sure which way they went with the policies again.
I do know that by using Auctiva checkout you have an option to collect email addresses, or at least the last I heard.
Paypal does also, but again, you really have to keep on top of the ever changing policies.
The traffic certainly is there!
Have a great weekend everyone! Victoria
Getagrip, I have heard wonderful things about Jim's Silent team membership too, in case you are considering joining that..

Because I love my hobbies so much and much of what I purchase for those hobbies I find on eBay at great prices I like to promote products on eBay.
But I don't have any of my own products which at one time would have sucked.
I joined the eBay affiliate program, purchase a script to create sites with called BANS (build a niche store) and now I promote other people's products through my blogs.
Ebay has never been easier. I don't have to ship anything and never have to respond to buyer questions.
So I love eBay

I agree with you getagrip. Most of the people think they need extraordinary skills to sell online .But I think almost everyone has some niche in which they are pro . There is no need to write a 100 page ebook you can sell 20 page report and people will buy it for sure if has high quality content or unique idea .Also ebooks have very low production cost .

I am a regular seller on ebay and I love it! Ebay classifieds do not do well. Also, you can not sell ebooks on ebay anymore unless they are on a disc. No downloads.

I have tried selling on Ebay but with minimal success.
I live in Spain and have done for 5 years. I use to sell on ebay in the UK and I did okay maybe it is thought of the buyer seeing Spain puts them off.

I have sold items on Ebay. Mainly concert tickets. Sometimes I've made money, and other times I've lost (like when the concert doesn't sell out).
If you do decide to sell items on Ebay, it should be something you can get cheaper than everyone else, something likely to increase in value, or something you create yourself. Don't assume that you will make money just because you put something on Ebay.
Also, don't forget the Ebay, Paypal and shipping fees. They can add up.

I like to pick up things for real cheap at yard sales and then put on Ebay but I agree, you have to be careful for the fees, etc.
Some things I make money and some things I break even.
Right now I have several items on there that I picked up for a quarter at a yard sale and let's see..... ( i just went and checked... they have had several bids and are at several bucks right now.(They don't come off till Sun night so that is a good sign) I started the bids at .99
Also picked up a good motorcycle jacket for $5 and started the bid at $9.99 - it has one bid and several watchers so it will likely go up some more.
It is definitely a way to make some extra cash and so is Amazon.
I like to list books on there - they may sit a long time but I listed one for $10 that I paid a quarter for and sold it so that wasn't too bad.
Fun stuff.

I know a guy who has sold hard-to-find video games and consoles. When Nintendo Wii was in demand and hard to find, he'd stock up on them throughout the year and then put them up around Christmas. It used to be easy to make a lot of money like that, but he was only making $10 on a Wii Console. He was going for volume, but packaging and shipping those is a lot of work... at least a lot more work than a couple of concert tickets. Not worth it in my book.

you cannot sell digital products for download anymore..you have to put them on cd and ship them to your customer..you can run ebay classified for a digital product and direct buyers to the pitch page of the product through your affiliate links

I currently have alot of ebooks and was considering putting some of them on eBay just to generate traffic to my site. I just haven't decided to sell them in CD format or Classified Ads. I've never used classified ads on eBay. Any suggestions, pros or cons? Thanks!
Diane

I was about to reply to getagrip about digital products, but you've answered the question.
I had numerous entries with ebay, selling my ebook for 0.01(minimum amount) because I used to have a downloadable ebook with my first website (basically it was free) & then got a warning by email telling me to remove them.
I can't understand why he's stated that it's a good way to sell stuff on ebay ?

You can't sell ebooks on ebay anymore.
If you put an electronic product on their site you will eventually get a warning email from them.
