I don't think you need a registered business name to start a srop ship business, but you might want to check with your local business office to make sure you can legally get started without a liscense.

One place a lot of people sell drop ship items on is Ebay.

Hi!

No you don't!

But dropshipping is kind of hard...
You have to find wholesalers that have GOOD prices, and GOOD products... If you can sell a potato peeler for cheap, I still doubt there will be alot of takers... Know what I mean?

So besides selling the actual products, you have got to think about many hours in researching what sells, for what price and where? Etc...

Hi, no not at first. Be careful with dropshipping companies. I used to do dropshipping on ebay. Just do your research for the best companies because some will rip you off.

Hi, you are better off buying in wholesale and shipping customers the products yourself because with dropshipping it is really risky. You can't see the quality of the product yourself because its going straight from the supplier to the customer.

Well, one thing I can tell you is who *NOT* to use! Do NOT use Doba.com. They are so overpriced for one, but also, they have a free trial, & I took it, then they requested my cc info to be able to have the free trial...I gave them that, but then requested a cancellation. They told me I was cancelled & I asked are you sure you won't charge my acct? They assured me it would not be charged. Then I got another call from another salesman in the co almost a week later, asking if everything was ok w/the site & I was happy with it. I recounted the earlier call & the fact that I had cancelled... He said my account was active but he would cancel it.

The upshoot of it all is no one ever did & my cc was charged, then I could not get the money back b/c I got no confirmation number on the what they now call the "supposed cancellation".

There are some good ones out there, though. Try vistawholesale.zoovy.com I LOVE those folks! They are a super site & very professional...always get right back with you, allow dropshipping and gives you a shipping confirmation number & date.

I would not recommend dropshipping. I have tried it in the past and had a similar issue has marytoad. Also I had items get lost in the mail and then the customer gets upset at you. A lot of hassle for not so much profit.

Look at it this way - The dropshipping company is getting those products from some sort of wholesaler. They are marking up the price and selling it to you. Why not cut out the middle man (in this case the dropshipper) and go straight to the wholesaler. This might require some more time and effort. But if you find just one good wholesaler, it could all be worth.

One other way to find whatever it is you want to sell cheap, find someone selling wholesale lots of whatever item you want to sell on ebay.

Then get those items and re-sell the items individually at a marked up price. I have tried that and had more success.

DO NOT GO WITH DOBA!! I signed up for the 7 day free trial. Within a few days I was getting calls from them. When I finally answered the phone there was a man and he wanted to tell me about how instead of payinf $69.95 a month I could get an annual membership of $295.00. I told him that I would have to get back to him. He said that I had until Friday and as of Friday I would be charged the money if I did not cancel ahead of time. I realized this was not for me. I could not afford $295.00 right now. I went home and went on doba's website and isntantly cancelled the account. I was e-mailed a cancellation number. I saved the e-mail. At this point I was fairly pleased because I had received the e-mail with the cancellation number. Well, today I went to my bank to deposit some money and when I requested a statement. DOBA had charged me $299.00 yesterday. I was FURIOUS!! I cancelled my account 4 days ago! There is no reason I should have been charged. The transcaction is still pending, so it may not go through, but that is not the point. I am going to make sure to contact my bank and make it so that DOBA can no longer charge me. I will also make it my point to get a refund. Screw DOBA!

I have an Idea about a product I want to sell but I dont know where to start my research. I googled it and the key phrase and word's came up with very few items like 8,000 using the key word and using the phrase. Its my own creation and I dont know what to do to start, Or where to start and if I should ask people in forums to get feed back and such . Any Comments would be greatly appreciated. I am afraid that someone will copy my idea. Thanks in advance, Debbie

If you are looking for trusted wholesale product sources for drop ship you can find them with a free account access at InventorySource.com ...they dont have a 7 day trial where you forget and then get charged...it is free with no period ending. you only pay if you want to add a customized data service. Inventory Source can upload the products for you and update them on your site every day. they work with eBay, Yahoo Stores, oscommerce, CRE Loaded, Zen Cart, Miva and more. You can upload products with their services for eBay, Amazon, Price Grabber and more as well to have products on your site and marketplace. http://inventorysource.com/

The difference between doing business with drop shippers and wholesalers is the minimum quantity order. General speaking wholesalers require minimum order in sales dollar or quantity while drop shippers do not have such requirement. Though, some drop shippers do require minimum order in order to drop ship. There are pros and cons with each of these models.

Good luck Selling.

Hi lilyongmh, be cool. You don't need to register for your business. You can just start business via your own site.

Good Luck!

In most cases you need a business name in order to get a tax ID number. Most companies need this number to exempt you from paying sales tax when you purchase their products, depending on where you are buying from and selling to. If you sell to people in your state you need to charge sales tax.

You may not need a business NAME but you will need a license. After you get a license (from your local city/state business bureau) you should be in business. You will also need to file for a tax ID number for the drop-shipping business.

I don't think you do but there are so many illegitimate drop shippers out there that I gave up looking. If you happen to find one let me know!
