I'm pretty new to earning money online. My question is where do I start. Do I start clicking emails (just to see what's the business is all about), Do I start doing online survey's or do I just start up my own business and try to find products online. I'm pretty clueless so what should I do first. I am able to spent about 20 hours a week doing anyting online. So why not try to make cash ?
With kind regards,
EyeSize

It depends on your past experience, skills and where you stay. You can take up customer service jobs, online teaching or freelance writing.

Thank you pcwork.
I have a lot of experiance using computers (mainly in the programming business) but I really have no idea where to start. I have seen a lot of oppertunities like survey's online stores and stuff. And I would like to setup an online shop but really have no idea where to start where to get quality products. And I don't really have the space to store a lot of goods.

Whatever you choose to do, I'd recommend that it be involved with something you enjoy. If you're passionate about what your promoting then it won't even feel like work.
I just got an email yesterday that had multiple ebooks on business start up ideas. Just don't set up a lemonade stand in the dessert. The sun will dry up your supplies and you won't get any traffic. Gift basket items for women would probably work for some where others may have ideas for muscle cars. Once you discover your niche I'd love to see what you come up with.
While you're thinking of an idea to promote I'd suggest you learn traffic building skills and be prepared for a lot of work. While your building a list study what other successful people are doing and emulate them, but do not steal their work. You wouldn't want it happening to you. Be thinking of a name for your business. Some people pick some pretty lame ones .... like piggybanker. I would have been smart to stop, think, and perhaps think of something really cool like eBay, or Google, or Yahoo.
I used to drink Kickapoo Joy Juice when I was a kid. The commercial was Yahoo ... it's Kickapoo Joy Juice. Nowadays we'd probably think it was an alcoholic beverage or a drug laced drink... ugh! I'm not sure, but Mountain Dew tastes an awful lot like KJJ to me and so did Fresca. Anyone got a Tab? I think my age is showing. That's okay, I'll take my dime, go buy a pop, return the bottle and get $03 back to buy candy with and then I'll go home and watch Howdy Doody or Marshall K Gun. Oh .. the good ole days.
I created my own home theatre system using a cheap projector, a DVD/VCR 5:1 surround sound system, and a really novel idea for a projector screen. I'm in the process of creating a website to promote it, but I don't even care if I earn from it. I just enjoy the idea and I like helping others save money. My system cost me less than $1000 and it's like sitting in a miniature movie theatre.
Blessings to you. May your path always be lit.

Hi EyeSize,
I had the same question as you when I started. The best advise I could give you is to research the internet, you will find out what is available and what you can understand and then start from there. There are hundreds of resources from e-book to new online videos which can help you learn how to do it. What they can't tell you is what is the best one for you.. Only you can make that decision
Again it really depends where your skills and passion are, however anything can be learned. If you love writing you could research how to make money from Blogs or Turnkey niche websites. There really are lots of methods out there. Try reading e-books with testimonials from others to get a feel of how confident others got after learning and selecting a method to start with first.
Although I could list many methods it would be best if you research what is out there then look at your skills, commitment and passion for it and then just go for it. Take action
Lots of success in finding your first method.

To answer the question of where to start, I think that the first mistake people make when they get into internet marketing is believing the marketing schemes. I can tell you that I probably spent a couple hundread dollars on how to get rich quick by a certain E-book.
There really is not an ebook out there that will tell you everything you need to know. I think surfing on traffic exchanges such as trafficswarm...10khits4unow..etc. gives you a good idea of what other people are doing out there online to make a decent income.
I am a little biased but I spent 4 months on the internet taking random advice from people I had no clue whether or not I could trust. A lot of internet marketers kept telling me about the system that I am currently with and I didnt take their advice for about 4 months.
Without advertising here I just want to tell you that it really laid out a system that successful internet marketers live by....not buying anything it was just free to join with free information.
If you would like any ebooks on internet marketing. Just drop me an email or message me and I am happy to help.
Dont worry things do get easier along the way! Check out the site below if you would like more info.

Hey eyesize, everyone above has given you the same information or advice that I would have given you, but I noticed you mentioned something about taking surveys. I am not here to bash and say all websites that pay to take surveys are bad, but for the most part from my experiences and many other individual's stories, doing surveys is a waste of time and the majority of them are scams... so be careful !! Good luck though and hope to talk to you soon!

To add my 2 cents to EyeSize, although you absolutely must do your homework in looking to have an income with a business online, I also believe you eventually need to talk to a real person. And I suggest you talk to many. These are the people you will need to work with to be successful if you want to make some serious money (nothing against surveys, just not my thing). You need to find out if you can work with that team. You will probably get a feeling for what kind of person you are dealing with. Check out signature lines here on the forum to investigate all sorts of businesses. 20 hours a week is a good amount of time to start a successful business. You just have to make sure you have tools you are comfortable with.
And pleeease don't fall for something that sounds too good to be true, because it probably is.

I was looking on the Internet for home business job opportunities. All the people who scream out there saying they have what I am looking for keep asking for money through one way or another. Basically I have to pay to get it all going without any guarantee that I will even recover my money, spent on registrations as deposits and what not? Anyways came across this site www.bizymoms.com and they talk about home business tool kits which I think of as something relatively better than what is out there. Would like some opinions form all you good folks out there in this forum - Kim

Hi Kim025,
I checked out the site. With any business opportunity, you need to have the tools to make it successful along with a enthusiastic team/mentor/director, whatever you want to call the person that intorduced you to the business. I agree that there are many opportunities that will take your money and run. After much research and a few bad experiences, I have invested my time and money into a program that offers me the tools to become successful. I just have to work with the plan. I think that is what you have to look for - a business that has tools that you can actually use. Among other things, I signed up with Coastal Vacations because it had a tool that differentiated it from other opportunities I saw, and that was a Call Center. I have a team of people behind me that can basically "close the sale" for me. Again, just another tool. Continue your research. I would also recommend choose a organization where you can totally stand behind the product. Sometimes, the product seems a little flimsy or undiversified. That, to me, is a problem.
Also, there are no guarantees with any business opportunity. A lot of burden is on you to make it work, but as long as you have the tools, you can do it!

I was not looking for a package where I have to pay. Thanks anyway. Also I am not into multi level. From what I see, bizymoms.com is a site that gives moms free information, articles, chats and discussion on how to start and run their own business.
If you have other sites like this please let me know.

This is another good site for information.
I am curious when you say you were looking for something where you don't have to pay. I really don't think there is anything out there where you don't have to make an initial investment. It may be for a personalized website, products, back office, but nothing is 100% for free. What you DO get for free is information. If that is what you are looking for, there are tons of free resources, like this forum for instance. But when you are ready to take the plunge on starting and running your own business, you will need to make some initial investments.

Hi Kim025,
I agree with decker2006. There are tons of information that you can get from the internet for free...that's what google is for. However, if you want specific information and trade secrets and tips for a particular home-business opportunity you have in mind, oftentimes you have to shell out a few dollars to fast track your business. But if you don't mind spending a lot of time browsing the net for free resources like articles, forums and ebooks you can do it as well but it will take longer for your business to grow.
You have to make initial investments to ever succeed online. This is used for paying for domain names, web hosting and getting specific information. Any business opportunity, whether offline or online will always require some capital.

Quoting: EyeSize I'm pretty new to earning money online. My question is where do I start
Hi EyeSize, There are many free information online, so spend sometime to do some research. There are many ways to make money online and not necessarily you do all of them. Choose one or two that are suitable for you and focus in it to be an expert. However not all information are free, there are some that require you to paid up some money. My advice before you decide to spend some money, do enough research. Use google to find review for the product (be aware some of the reviews are biased as they are actually trying to sell product to you) or visit several forums.
After all the browsing, information gathering and reading you might get overwhealmed with the informations, and still not getting you anywhere..at least thats happened to me at first. My advice just need to do one thing at the time but consistent. This internet business is like any other business, it take time to build up. I do not think that get rick quick on internet is actually possible.
So as any business, it maybe impossible to start without spending a dime, you will need to make some sort of investment up front. So we just need to spend it wisely.
Good luck with your Internet Biz...
Cheers.

Customer service is a pretty good work at home position if you have a free block of time say when the kids are at school. If you have more skills such as writing, clerical, typing, etc. You can look for clerical positions for private business owners, small business owners are usually the ones that are looking to outsource so they don't have to cover extra costs like insurance, pto, etc. while they are starting out.

Hi, If your desire is truly to succeed and remain successful, you first need to learn by reading all the free ebooks you can get your hand on , but first decide what is it you really want to do as a business online. This is a small guide of what can be done online: -Google adsense -Ebay and others like Ebay. -Web design -Copywriting etc.. -Network Marketing Investigate what you want and can and then once you make up your mind , feed yourself with lots of information on the matter of your interest. Do not buy anything at all, just organise yourself to learn all you can about your subject and go about it slow. Once you feel you are ready and you can start by building your site(start with Blog is best) or have a good well established company provide you one free(but the domain name and hosting will be on your account, that is cheap) and start your business. Remember you can start on a little budget and most of the information is free. Most important once you have defined your choice , FOCUS and be prepared to work. You will succeed if you are constant with your timetable. Remember, it is not a race, it is just sawing a seed and like a good farmer take care of what you have sown, it will reap for sure. If you need more information on where to get what you are looking for, i can help you. Just post here your request and i will put the information here for you to download and all those needing it too. It is free as i say, i am willing to share and help. It will be a great pleasure for me to help. Thank you. "All is possible to whom that beliveth"
