Have you ever used Google Alerts? This is a program from google where you can put in search terms and this system will alert you any time someone searces on that search term you are watching.

I find it quite interesting that the key phrases I thought might be popular key phrases someone would enter in a search engine when looking for a business opportunity almost never come up as a google alert.

I would love to get in the mind of a new person searching for an opportunity and find out just what they are looking for, searching for, when they decide they want to Make Money From Home or Work From Home or start a Business Opportunity From Home or what ever.

I realize there are tons of key phrases people use and it's a hit and miss in the search engines for anyone's website but if there were a way to know what someone is thinking, wouldn't that be great.

Anyone know?

I'm also looking for the google link again that you can use to find the number of times a search term has been entered in google. Does anyone have that link?

Karen

I used this feature for a while and not much use of that for me... and the results I got in mail are not much I expected and it looks better to search on google straight away and not waiting for alerts in mail...

I don't think Google Alerts does that. It only notifies you when any new website/news/groups come up in the search results for your targeted keyword.

I think Wordtracker does a good job of that. But then it's impossible to list all the keywords that people use to search. Some search words may not even be repeated. These keyword databases list only those keywords that are and may be repeated. And it makes sense too.

To find out what people are looking for, messages boards related to your business are one of the best mediums to hang around.

I'm not sure if there's a tool providing you the number of searches made in Google. But there's Google AdWords Keyword Tool that'll give you a list of related popular keywords that are searched on Google.

It took some searching in my old notes but I found the google link I mentioned above. This gives you suggested keywords also with I think like results of how many times that keyphrase was searched in the last month. I remember when I was first introduced to this from google, no one knew exactly what the numbers represented.

I also found this along the way

People spell things wrong all day long.

Thank you for the response
Karen

No it wouldn't be Karen. For example, if you set your news alert for the keyword "work at home", you'll get a notification only when a new news item pops up in the search, not when someone searches for the keyword "work at home". So if there is no new news item in a given day for the specified keyword, you will not get an alert. Hope you get it.

The numbers are not number of times the keyword has been searched but the number of search results for the keyword. Yes there is some discrepancy between the numbers shown and actual number of search results but I'm positive about that.

This isn't Google, so it won't help you with Google specific numbers, but some of the newbies/lurkers may find it handy for keyword targeting. I use this site ... the yahoo/overture tool with ad prices in same screen

http://pixelfast.com/overture

As far as Google alerts ... the only thing I have posting to me is my name. Helps with knowing where my articles are being listed by Google. Doesn't seem like it's entirely thorough though.

Hey Vishal,

The only thing I use Google alerts for is New News, on that same topic.
I try to see what is happening and incorporate that info into my articles for the day.

The quality of news on Google News has degraded a lot lately. Most of the results you see for terms like work at home/home based buiness are mere press releases or articles published on article sites. I'm not sure about other keywords though.

Hey! Just noticed, there are couple of spam listings too! Check out news for keyword work at home and see the results from site Kokkeleg.dk, Denmark. I'm not sure how long it will be there.

I guess you can find just about anything in the news section

Karen.

Try this:
http://tools.seobook.com/keyword-tools/seobook/

They provide daily estimate numbers of various search engines for a particular keyword.

To see what people are searching for real-time try Dogpile. You can't look up a keyword but you can get the most up-to-date info regarding what is on peoples' minds.

It would be great if you had that power to see into peoples thoughts. You can use any FREE keyword tracking website to track the amount of times a particular keyword is searched on a daily basis on Google as well as variations of that keyword.
