Most people don't know that I'm an internet chess freak. Now, I'm only an "average" player, but I want to make a point here.
When I started playing, I would lose all of the time. I mean ALL OF THE TIME. People were kicking my butt left and right, and it seemed like I'd only get wins against easy opponents. For the record, I've lost 7,509 times, one of which came just before I initially began writing this post.
As I started playing more, I got better and better, and I think I can honestly say that I learned more from losing than winning. You see, when you play tough opponents, you learn a lot, and you can start learning from your mistakes - which moves to make, and which moves not to make.
It took me somewhere around 10,000 games before I finally had more wins than losses. So, if you define success as winning more than 50% of the time, it took me about 10,000 tries before I finally succeeded. As of this post, I have 8,184 wins, compared to 7,509 losses...
Internet marketing has not been friendly to me. It has been brutally difficult, but the great thing is that I have seen an immense amount of progress compared to when I first started. Even today, I'm still learning, and am more in tuned to the things I've been doing wrong, and how to correct my mistakes.
Internet marketing is not a whole lot different than learning the game of chess. In the beginning, you get your butt kicked all of the time, but little by little, you see some progress, and you start winning. Before you know it, you barely resemble the player you once were when you started out. Of course, you still get your butt kicked and make mistakes all of the time...but you keep playing the game, because you know you can win.
A lot of people get started at internet marketing and then give up shortly afterward because they don't see enough victories in internet marketing to keep going, so they quit. I've only had limited success in internet marketing, but you know what, I'm not about to quit because the sales I do make encourage me to keep playing the game...
The very ironic thing about this post is that my crazy cat jumped across my keyboard twice during the first two times I tried to write it...and I was practically finished the first time my cat deleted this post. If I had quit after the first two times my cat deleted this post, whoever needed to read this post may have quit internet marketing...just before they made a crucial victory.

getagrip,
I think that you inadvertently hit the problem with most of this work at home stuff. "Internet Marketing" isn't anything meaningful. The emphasis is all wrong. It's not about selling a great product, the focus is on the marketing without having a product that is in demand. In my opinion, that's why such a tremendously high percentage of newbies are failing? It's all about marketing, but marketing WHAT?

Quoting: propertymanager "Internet Marketing" isn't anything meaningful
Just to let you know, this is actually a slightly modified version of a post I made in an internet marketing forum. "Internet Marketing" is actually a phrase that can also mean a specific kind of internet business - another word for it is "affiliate marketing", if that makes more sense.

I just read through your post and i believe it is inspiring as at some point i confess i have felt like throwing in the towel and quiting but exactly like you explained it is those sales that keep you in and i believe as time progresses those sales will become more frequent until i can say i am successful. Great post and I hope people take the time to read it.

GetaGrip,
Your post is excellent and inspirational. It highlights some of the qualities and conditions that a person needs to become successful at anything in life, like...
- being passionate about their goals - having the right attitude - learning from mistakes - being patient - not giving up - having a strong commitment - measuring progress
And, so long as you win more often than you lose, you'll always be ahead of the game.
According to your figures, you've won 9% more times than you've lost. In business terms that's a profitable bottom line.
Hermas

Your post is interesting.
Sometimes i do feel this way. I feel that the internet marketing has conquered me. I feel like surrender to it. But i don't want to give up just like that. I want to win in this war. So i carry on the war with it. I hope to win in this war.
Cheers to those who have won the war

Here is a quote that was told to me when I began internet marketing:
"The only way to fail is to quit."
How true is that?

Very insightful post. I love reading from people who take time to stop and think. You are very correct. It can be a numbers game. Also, the methods and knowledge used to affiliate market are crucial. It took a lot of trial and error on my part to start making income. Thanks for the post and good luck to you! You will succeed if you write vividly like this for marketing purposes. Cheers!

I think all to often people enter into Internet marketing because it seems like an easy option, looking at hyped up products of fast profits. As we all know that is not the case. No business is going to be easy, and to be successful requires work. It is down to the individuals attitude and reason for starting a business, whether they are successful or not. With strong determination and a desire to succeed, goals will be achieved.

Great advice. For those of us who don't have large amounts of cash to invest Its all about trial and error and though I am far from where I would like to be I think its going to be the ones who don't give up who find success.

You know, I like reading posts like this because you realize that not everyone starts out making tons of money.
I'm just getting started with my business and I have not made any money, but I don't expect to right away.
I know what I need to do if I want to succeed at this.

To succeed you have to try and try again, you win some and you lose some. The key is to know when to let go if need be and not beat a dead horse. And when to run with the winner full speed ahead. Sonni
