I like to experiment with Adsense and it adds a little diversity to my income streams. I don't use it on all of my pages or even on all of my sites. A lot of gurus suggest it's use. What are your views?

One tip for those who plan on using Adsense: try to make your Adsense ads blend in with the content of your website without bending any of the Adsense TOS.

For example, the background color of your Adsense ads should be the same color of your website, as well as the font color. You can also center your ads below some text, or even use a "link unit, which makes it appear as if the Adsense Ads are pointing to other pages of your website.

I respect the opinion of getagrip above, but I disagree with the strategy of trying to blend AdSense ads into your site so people will be "tricked" into clicking on an ad. Advertising on websites is ubiquitous on the web and people understand that ads pay the bills for a lot of content sites. Trust Google to serve ads relevant to the content and generate good content. This strategy probably won't make you as much money but it will improve the user experience on your site since your precious readers don't feel duped after clicking what they thought was a link to more of your content.

I use adsense on my website. I've tried a few other income streams, but they all made zilch

Of course you want to provide quality content, but no matter how good your content is, if you don't have good ad placement, not many people are going to click on your ads.

Its all about appearence and ad placement - if your ads look too much like ads, and if they are placed in the wrong areas of your website, you simply aren't going to get many people to click on your Adsense ads.

I read an article Problogger wrote about adsense and he was taking it off one of his blogs because it wasn't doing well. He uses it on other blogs and he explained that he did this because it did well on some and not others. There was a very long thread created by this particular article. He is good at getting a long thread going because he has a huge following due to his willingness to share his knowledge and he's a nice guy. I'm sure it's in his archives if anyone is interested.

AdSense is no doubt a wonderful tool to generate revenue. But a lot depends on the type of site you have and your likings.

Shopping websites and affiliate websites may suffer with the introduction of AdSense. I feel it's best to either have a website solely monetizing on AdSense or through affiliate sales. That way, you can fine tune you website for that particular revenue stream because both are completely different ways of generating revenue. For affiliate sites, you need more pre-selling content. Whereas for AdSense sites, you need more informative or sticky content.

A lot also depends on the niche you are in. Some niches have good click-through rates whereas some have pathetic click-through rates. It usually doesn't make sense in incorporating AdSense in such niches. Researching and modifying the site to include some well converting affiliate products makes more sense.

Another aspect I have found is that blogs are poor candidates for AdSense. AdSense works well on simplistic, focused sites that have very few links and nothing much to distract the users. Most blogs have plenty of links and their overall layout is distracting to users.

I use it in both my blogs. It won't make me rich, but it supports my gardening habit very nicely. Everything I bought for my garden this year was funded by Google.

Who thinks it is very good and who thinks it is very much a waste of time? What is the very most important part? Is anyone excited about trying it for the first time?

Who would like to know more about Adsense? Who can comment about their personal experience with Adsense?

Please understand that most folks think they can post a bunch of trash overnight and make a fortune by including Adsense.

Have you made a decent income via Adsense? Would anyone like to know how to do this?
