Well, you're right, of course, page rank IS definitely of some importance, but I've seen people lose their page rank (and business) overnight when Google decides to modify its algorithms again.
So I'm only saying we shouldn't put all our eggs in one basket. If you rely on page rank for most of your traffic, then the future of your business is on shaky ground.
I would suggest that a more prudent solution is to build up solid backlinks from other related websites that you know will still be there next month, and then just accept any natural google traffic as an added bonus that could come and go at any time but won't cripple you if it suddenly disappears.
Anyway, just my opinion and personal experience.
